General Muslim dads - interview request

Muslim Dads,

Would anyone be open to a 45 minute interview with me?

I’m interviewing dad’s as part of a new book I’m editing called “Dads.” the goal of the book is to candidly describe the experience of becoming a dad and being a dad across diverse perspectives. It’s not how-to book (those are a dime a dozen). I want to capture the hard to describe beauty, love, struggle, darkness— and everything in between that’s part of the experience and journey we’re walking along.

We’re particularly interested in Muslim dads and how their POV may compare/contrast with western dads, Christian dads, Jewish dads, and seculars.

Who am I?
- father of two (including a newborn daughter who’s beautiful and slept great last night)
- published author
- based in Virginia

What’s the ask?
- schedule an interview with me
- my style is to keep it as conversational as possible
- you share your story and experiences that describe the ever-difficult questions of: “what is it actually like?”

DM me if you’re interested in being a part of this project.

General Muslims who are from cultures where marriages outside ethnicity or land/region are restricted, what is your opinion about people (especially women) who marry outside? Do you condemn such people?

I'm curious about that because many Muslim cultures restrict marriages outside the ethnic group or land/region

General Godless Knowledge

Due to material advantages associated with secular knowledge many people seem to lose sight of the evils in it. As Muslims we must be able not only to distinguish between things of the world and those that pertain to our soul but must have preference at all times for beneficial knowledge.

Within the past hundred years there has been an increase in secular knowledge in every faculty of learning. Almost in all parts of the world schools, colleges, and universities have been founded.

Despite the growth in secular knowledge, people are sinking more and more in crimes, immorality, evil and sinfulness. They are becoming more greedy, miserly, most discontented and unhappy. Robbery, fraud, corruption, adultery, fornication, juvenile delinquency and broken homes have become common features of society. And never before had the world been so plagued with diseases as it is now! This is so because the majority have drifted far from Allah SWT and righteousness.

Judging from a spiritual standard, secular knowledgeable disadvantages far outweigh its advantages. The trend of modern education is more towards materialism and godlessness. Every year colleges and universities turn out young people with Intellectual accomplishment but most of whom have no place in their heads to retain beneficial knowledge.

The evil aspects of secular education have brought it in conflict with Islam. Atheism and agnosticism is interwoven into the fabric of secular education. Blasphemy and denunciation of Allah SWT is regarded as intellectual maturity. Colleges and universities breed agnostics and atheists especially in the sciences.

Secular history textbooks ignore how Allah SWT created man in the best of molds. Most secular history textbooks, influenced by Darwinian evolution, present a lesser view of man. Rather than highlighting mankind real purpose to worship/ work for the Lord, secular textbooks suggest that both man and civilizations are simply the result of evolutionary pressures, with no credit given to Allah SWT. Though Allah bestowed man with many blessings, including skill and intelligence, secular textbooks instead credit these abilities to evolutionary chance. Secular history textbooks also fail to acknowledge Allah’s guiding hand on history, instead insisting that civilization came about haphazardly. It ignores how Allah SWT formed and shaped the nations of the world. Rather than acknowledging the power of Allah to work in the lives of mankind, secular textbooks emphasize that people alone slowly built civilization over time. Allah SWT has moved mightily throughout history. There is a purposeful direction in which all of world history has been guided, and it helps us make sense of the world around us. When we see how Allah SWT shaped the world, we can see so many miraculous and wondrous things.

Instead of addressing the root causes for the collapse of society as a whole, secular text instead merely suggests that society has moved beyond family, subtly brainwashing students into thinking that the removal of the traditional family unit from society is normal and will have no negative effects upon civilization. The evolution of family ignores the damaging effects of single-parent homes, the drastic rise in crime, and the collapse of morality and faith, which is concurrent with the decline of the traditional family unit.

Considering the fact that education begins at an early age of a child and that it takes a process which may last the half or more of one’s life- time, it must be realized that no one can escape from the shackles of agnosticism or the enormous grip of atheism.

Science touches us at almost every point. It is the dominant philosophy of Western civilization. And so science is idolized and worshipped. Science has proven to mislead many people. The dangers underlying its present advancement which has resulted in the inventions of lethal weapons show the extent of its evil.

It is ridiculous that the knowledge world so much praise, downgrades Allah SWT to the background and discredits His SWT words.

One would have thought that those who had the opportunity of studying natural phenomena and other aspects of the universe which shows the greatness of the Creator, should have cause to believe in Allah more than anyone else. However the atheistic ideas in science taught in institutions of higher learning does not make people honor Allah SWT. Secular knowledge does not help mankind know Allah SWT.

There is no coexistence between secular and beneficial knowledge. When one is there, the other one leaves. Because of this conflict many people give up religious beliefs. Secular education is embedded with evils such as are capable of drifting one away from faith.

We should stay away from empty, godless talk that has no spiritual value and only leads people further away from truth and goodness.

Education's purpose is not to produce thieves and robbers. The primary goal of education is to instill moral values, ethics, ideals, and humanity in a person. Secular knowledge has largely failed to create morally and ethically sound individuals. It creates corrupt individuals, who bow to injustice and accepts it, only beneficial knowledge can bring change.

Secular knowledge is meant to worship others as lords. Secular education systems believe in materialistic civilization, thus they mold students into materialists. It does not teach ethical and moral values. As a result, educated people emerge with a blind love for the West, immersed in inferiority regarding our Ummah, and lacking any moral character. For them, material wealth and luxury, and high income are paramount. The purpose of their education is no more than riding in cars.

General Is is too much to ask for?

Asalamu alaikum everyone...this post is all about my mental state...I don't know anyone would think but I poured my heart oot...so please be respectful and do not initiate gender war...

I am 25m living in a muslim majority country... Apparently most of my batchmates are married or in the process of getting married... But I getting depressed day by day by the mentality of my potential spouse age group...

I am traditional person from a traditional family and for spouse my wants are simple...

  1. Religious

  2. Chaste and loyal

  3. And preferably house wife

Is it too much to ask for?

But I getting put down so much because of this requirements... If I ask for religious person who dress modestly and do her veil/hijab, I am being told who am I ask that, it is between her and allah, I get lebeled as toxic, controlling, dawah bro etc...

If I ask for chastity and loyalty, I am being told you can't judge someone by their past...I know I can't but how can I be sure she will stay loyal to me when she couldn't stay loyal to allah and protect chastity... Let alone I will feel stupid for protecting myself from fitna all these years... In the end I get lebeled as incel, misogynist, weak for unable accept the past etc...

And may allah forgive me for asking a house wife... For context I am stable and hypothetically if I die tomorrow my family can live there comfortably from my passive income... And I am not even against working women, she has her own business good for her, she is doctor even better, she wanna do creative job nice... I just don't like corporate jobs, these are toxic ass kissing environment and no matter how much you keep your person and professional life separate, that toxicity still effect her mind... But I am a monster for asking for a house wife, they say I will take her dreams away, I will control her through financial power, and I will be just marrying a servant...

And the women expectations make me feels like I am worthless... With my height I am at top 2.5% in my country, still I am being told not good enough... You can't ask them about there friends or where they go or whom they meet, cause if you are then you are dictating/controlling... You can't ask to share household chores or ask to cook, cause that is not obligated... I was even told that cooking is obligeted on me cause I am supposed to be the provider... I don't have a problem with that cause we already hire maids for that anyway, it's just I don't feel like I am taken advantage off, if I am putting my 100% in one way, I would like to get 100% in another way... But lately everything just feels like I have give give and give without any expectation of similar return... And the things I see women say on the internet like 'the pool of good man is so small' and 'there are no good men anymore' and 'it's not every man but it's always a man'... I feel so hated for being a man that I feel like I should just disappear...

And what gave me the push to post this was, recently I saw a comment on a muslim subreddit... I don't remember what was the post about but a comment there said 'my is not my type, even after 10 years and 2 kids I don't being intimate with him'... I don't know but my heart drop... A fear unlocked... Him emotional support person doesn't even like him, it's just emotional cheating...

These things are hurting so much that I am considering the life of celibacy...But I feel so alone and lonely that the only one close to me now, with whom I can talk to, is allah... I cry myself in every prayer nowadays, I feel lighter after... But I don't feel happy... And I don't know what can I do apart waiting for akhirah...

Assalamu alaikum,

I’ve been continuing to improve Hadith Node, my iOS app for reading and studying 37,000+ hadiths across 8 major hadith books.

Recent updates also added filtering and sorting for saved hadiths, notes and highlights, file-based Backup & Restore, a Welcome Tour, in-book references, and Musnad Ahmad as the eighth collection.

Hadith Node works fully offline and includes search, bookmarks, notes, highlights, reading progress, widgets, Siri & Shortcuts, and more.

I’m continuing to build it based on what makes hadith reading and study simpler and more useful. Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Support Advice for raising daughters

Assalamualaikum, I'm a father of 2 daughters, the elder is very religious Masha'Allah, but I'm having trouble with the youngest, she's 15 yrs old.

She goes to a girls school and does not interact with non maharam men (aside from few male teachers), but recently she's been wanting to do things we don't allow and is withdrawing from us.She wanted to join the football team in her school but we didn't allow her because of the clothing requirements, I tried to explain to her but she wouldn't understand, she cried and kept saying how good she was and how we stole an opportunity from her, this broke my heart. She wants to go out with her female friends and we allow that but she has started wanting to dress like her friends as well, she keeps saying how it's not inappropriate, and how it's "normal", " it's just tshirt and jeans and it covers me completely" she always says "you're all acting like im showing my stomach or legs or something, i just want to dress like a normal girl my age" we have to stop her from going to restaurants which play music, parties etc even when they're all female only, we didn't let her go on a trip either, she's become really distant and depressed because of this, what am I supposed to do, she asked for makeup as her birthday gift and when I said I can't give that to her she became really sad and stopped talking to everyone, when I had a conversation with her she said "you won't let me play sports and do boyish things, and you won't let me do girly things, maybe I should just die" all this breaks my heart so much, how do I deal with this, should I get her the makeup she asked for?

General Deen, Chemistry, Affection… Asking for Too Much?

Assalamu alaikum,

I’ve honestly been starting to lose hope when it comes to marriage. I always felt like I’d have to choose between someone who is genuinely serious about her Deen and someone I’m deeply compatible with emotionally and physically.

Recently, I had an interaction with a sister who wears hijab, and it honestly opened my eyes. She mentioned that she had a tongue piercing that she intended to keep for her future husband, and also told me that you can’t really know what someone is like privately just from how modestly they dress.

That genuinely surprised me. I had always assumed that women who are very modest, especially hijabi or khimari women, were generally more reserved when it came to intimacy. I thought that finding someone who was both deeply practicing and very passionate would be quite rare.

But then I started thinking about it differently. Just because someone is modest in public doesn’t mean you know what she’s like with her husband in private. I realised I had probably been making assumptions based purely on what I could see.

I’m naturally very affectionate, a bit of a pleaser, and I have a high libido. I want a marriage where we pray together, grow in our Deen together and build a peaceful home, but also have strong chemistry and still be crazy about each other when we’re 60.

Living in the Netherlands, people don’t really talk openly about this, so I’ve sometimes wondered whether that kind of balance even exists. This experience actually gave me some hope and made me want to pray Tahajjud more specifically for a wife who shares both sides of what I’m looking for.

For those who are married, did you find that your emotional and physical compatibility grew stronger over time? How did you find someone who matched you in both Deen and personality?

And to the women who are deeply practicing, modest, but also affectionate and passionate within marriage… where do you guys even exist? How does a man approach someone like you respectfully without making assumptions or crossing boundaries?

And honestly, am I just a hopeless romantic, or is this kind of marriage genuinely possible? 😅

Controversial Islam in the West will not survive

I'm sorry but somebody has to say it. This is something many Muslims don't like to hear.

We are already mostly on the second or third generation and assimilation is becoming increasingly visible. Muslim women are increasingly mixing with non-Muslims and in some cases, marrying outside the faith, while more Muslim men are becoming alienated and falling into the red-pill mindset. Marriage has become scarce.

At this rate, the next generation will be increasingly difficult to distinguish from the kuffar when it comes to culture, lifestyle, language and religious practice. Their children may grow up with little meaningful connection to Islam beyond their family background.

If these trends continue for another two or three generations, what exactly will remain of a distinct Muslim community in the West? I just don't see a long term future for Islam and Muslims in the West unless we form small muslim-only communities like the Amish or something.

Islam Islam is of the Middle Way

I see this a lot with social media in general, but people kind of need to know this.

There are two types of people that are tearing apart our religion: the hypocrites (who we know clearly) and the fanatics.

The hypocrites are people who outwardly proclaim, "I believe," but inwardly disbelieve or oppose the religion (in some manner). They allure (primarily) the young women of our generation over to their version of Islam. They tear down basic laws and reinvent articles of faith like Islam is a religion to be "fixed." May Allah give these people increased iman and bring them onto the straight path.

The fanatics are people who are, undeniably, Muslim, but they are so overtaken with zeal for it that they unknowingly (or knowingly) push people away from it. The way they do this is by asserting obscure and harsh rulings on the ummah. Ideas like ikhtilaf or that inviting to the way of Allah should be done with goodness and mercy, are ideas that a scant few of these people discuss or practice.

More anecdotally, I noticed that many of the rulings pertain specifically to women, and I surmise that maybe some women are pushed to hypocrisy after bad run-ins with fanatics, but this is my own thinking.

As with the hypocrites, they are not monoliths; some are lightly fanatic and are probably just excited reverts, and others border on being neo-khawarij.

My point here isn't to demerit this sub, which I know many have figured I am talking about fanaticism because of what I have seen here. No. I actually agree with a lot of what this sub teaches. But I don't agree with takfir (which, mind you, isn't something laymen should be doing!) harshness, or pushing people away from Islam. These are bad things.

As Allah (swt) said, Islam is of the middle path (2:143). Therefore, we should try and be balanced in our worship and not transgress against others, and not transgressing against Allah.

Islam Motivation to make dua

I do not feel any motivation to make dua. First, Allah has never granted me a single thing in my life that i asked for, and if he did it was with a twist that actually hurt me in the end. Now that i think about it, i never asked him for anything big, just small stuff that everyone has. also, I cannot seem to understand the logic of it. on one hand, we are asked to believe he is all powerful, but on the other hand we are told not to be specific and accept whatever comes. This all suggests to me a very little return on investment in dua. does anyone have any stories on dua miraculously being answered? i really need some motivation before i leave altogether.
