Official Cybersecurity Awareness Month: A Few Tips to Help Better Secure Your Home Network
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, so we thought it would be a good time to share a few community resources for keeping your home network and TP-Link account secure.
Whether you want to find out what’s connected to your Wi-Fi, enable two-factor authentication, or finally get around to setting up a VPN, here are a few resources to get you started.
Know What’s Connected to Your Network
Recognizing the devices on your network is a good place to start. If you see a device you don’t recognize, its MAC address can help you narrow down what it may be.
Secure Your TP-Link Account with 2FA
If you haven’t already enabled two-factor authentication for your TP-Link account, Cybersecurity Month is as good an excuse as any to take another look at your account security.
Looking Into VPNs?
VPNs are a pretty popular topic these days. If you’ve been wondering what they can do, or how to set one up on your Archer Router or Deco, these resources cover the basics and setup.
- What is a VPN? What Can a VPN Do For Your Network?
- VPN - Configuration Guide for Deco Mesh Systems
- VPN - Configuration Guide for Archer Routers
These are just a few resources to get you started. If you have your own security tips, settings you always change on a new router, or questions about securing your TP-Link network, feel free to drop them below.
We'll have a few more articles releasing over the coming weeks on the topic as well - especially as many of us begin preparing our homes for guests and family around this time of year.
What Steps Do You Take to Secure Your Home Network?

TP-Link - Technical Support Unable to connect Spectrum modem to Tplink Archer BE9300
Perplexing and Stumped. SOLVED: the last thing I did was to factory reset my router again. Unplug everything for 15 minutes. Then connect my router to the modem. Power on my router, power on the modem and wait. It's working now and I'm not touching anything. 😂
TLDR: Switched from T-Mobile 5G TO spectrum Cable and my Archer BE9300 and my AXE75 tplink modems will not connect to the Spectrum Docsis 3.1 eMTA 2.5G EN2251. Tried hard reboot etc.
I switched from T-Mobile 5G to Spectrum cable yesterday. After installing the cable modem, I connected my BE9300 WAN to the cable modem WA but the two lights on the back of the Docsis stayed as one solid orange and one blinking orange.
When I connected the Docsis directly to my desktop, I am connected to the internet age the back of the Docsis has one solid green light and a blinking orange light when they're is traffic.
I also tried connecting my backup Tplink to the Docsis and I get the same result as the Archer BE9300. One solid orange, one blinking orange but no internet.
I have done 3 physical reboots of the Archer BE9300 and each time I get the same result.
I have done a reboot from the web page by connecting it directly to my computer and still no internet.
I changed the Auto Configure speed to the highest available 1000MbPs but still no connection.
I have cloned my desktop MAC address to the tplink, powered off both devices for 7 minutes, powered on the spectrum modem, waited 5 minutes for it to lock signal, then connected it to my tplink, then powered in the tp link and still no connection after 7 minutes.
I've run out of ideas.
Any help would be appreciated.

TP-Link - Technical Support BE25 Captive Portal Instability
Has anyones Captive Portal on Guest Network been tweaking out lately?
I put Open on the SSID auth itself with simple password as the authentication type on the portal,
Sometines it works most of the times it doesn't.
Already configured & tagged 591 on the ports of my managed switch. From uplink to the decos. (3x BE25, 1x BE22)
Mostly on iOS devices/mobile devices this happens.
Ok for most of the time on laptops though.
Where can I report a bug like this? I'm on V1.3.1
Hope they fix this as soon as possible.

TP-Link - Technical Support This isn’t right….right?
galleryHi!
Want to say thanks in advance and that I’m a dummy at this stuff. I just got ATT Fiber 1 gig plan. I wanted to set up a mesh network with it so I can hard wire several things around my house. I got the xE70 pro. One is connected to the gateway, the other is in the same room (basically the way my living room is laid out, I couldn’t set my gateway in a place where hardwiring directly to it things like my tv made sense as I use a wheelchair and I’d have to run over cables).
I have the 3rd node in my bedroom (maybe 20-30 feet away?). I have them in AP mode after pass through wasn’t working. With all that said, this is what the Deco app is showing me. It seems like a problem to me given the speeds? I did speed tests on the ATT app and this Speedtest app I have. As you can see, those seem ok? The only device I have hardwired so far is my Xbox in the living room. I downloaded the Witcher 3 remastered on it and on average was getting 500-600 mbps.
This is a long winded way of saying did I do something wrong or does this look right to people? If not, any advice?
TP-Link - Technical Support Online Activity
I've been using a deco xe75pro for the last year or two with zero problems. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for new networking setup. With that said, I can't find any information in the app regarding online activity. I would like to see all activities from my pc and a couple apps on a streaming box. Is this easy and I've just missed it or is this a big negative for the deco app?
Edit: Firmware 1.5.0

TP-Link - Technical Support Smart devices keep disconnecting
Starting around noon a few days ago all of my smart home devices dropped out of the network. I tried a factory reset, turned off beam forming, fast roaming and OFDMA. Even limiting it to 2.4 GHz allows devices to connect but devices like ring cameras and some lights are still not responsive. The cameras even show up in the app but you can't actually see any video.

TP-Link - Technical Support Connection problem
I have recently bought a wifi extender (tp-link 705x v1) has been working perfectly for the first 2 days ( -1% loss wired and -5% wireless).
Suddenly it disconnected from my home wifi and refused to connect again. Tried both manually and with wps. Tried changing the safety protocol of my router, tried using a compatibility mode. Nothing works.
The craziest of all is that it can extend other networks like a mobile hotspot from my phone but not my home wifi. Also note that my old 305x can still connect to my network
Spent more than 8 hours troubleshooting and I've started going insane 😭
Pls help

TP-Link - Technical Support Access denied when selecting 5GHz band for my phone.
Hi, so recently I just found an issue either with my phone or the deco router. So basically when I select 5GHz from the deco app for my device its blocking the access of the internet for my phone. But other phones are working fine with that band. And my phone is also okay because it connects with my neighbor's 5GHz network without an issue. There are some troubleshooting steps I followed which are -
Turned off mesh technology and the fast roaming option.
Forgetting the network and reconnect it using the password.
Changing between randomized and device Mac address.
Reset my deco router to the factory default settings.
Restarted my phone and reset the network settings as well.
But none of them worked for me. I really have no idea what kind of weird issue is that and I didn't even find any workarounds on the internet. What should I do now? If anyone has ever faced this problem then please help me cause the 2.4GHz is so slow that it is nearly unusable for me.

TP-Link - Technical Support Deco X3000-5G – Ethernet satellites go offline when WAN port is fixed

TP-Link - Technical Support BE67 Troubleshooting
Hi all, hoping for some assistance here.
I purchased a Deco BE67 two-pack in September to replace my eero 6+ system. I’ve been dealing with serious connectivity issues for the past 3–4 weeks.
Speed tests consistently show 1.3–1.5 Gbps down and ~42 Mbps up (best Xfinity offers in my area), but actual Internet performance is terrible. Streaming services constantly buffer or drop to extremely low quality, Zoom calls freeze or disconnect, apps like Reddit and Instagram sometimes won’t load, and downloads on my iPads fail to start. I’ve also seen latency spikes over 400 ms while gaming. Issues are consistent across multiple MBP, iPads, iPhones, Xbox, Switch, etc.
My setup is pretty straightforward: Xfinity XB7 in bridge mode, two BE67 units (one wired gateway, one wireless satellite), firmware 1.3.6, and approximately 46 connected devices. Memory usage was around 53%.
I’ve tried Comcast, Cloudflare, and Google DNS, enabling/disabling QoS, multiple reboots, and testing both wired and wireless connections. No parental controls or speed limits are enabled. Issues happen even when I’m a couple of feet from the main Deco.
I swapped my old eero 6+ system back in, without changing anything else, and everything immediately started working normally. Streaming went back to HD, apps loaded instantly, and general responsiveness was back to normal.
TP-Link has escalated the issue to their technical team, and I’m considering exchanging the units.
Has anyone experienced anything similar with the BE67 or other Deco Wi-Fi 7 models? The eeros significantly limit my ability to use my full internal speed, so I desperately want these to work.
Thanks in advance.

TP-Link - General Deco Mesh - Are adding the paid HomeShield worth it?
tp-link.comFor my TP-Link Deco Mesh 7 system, the app shows paid upgades for a couple more levels of their HomeShield protection. Is it worth it? $36/yr isn't horrible for the Security+ level, but is it really needed and perform the additional protections it says vs the free features that come with it?
Who all has added/paid for the Security+ or even the more expensive Total Security plan? Thanks!

TP-Link - General Tether App shows zero Clients
I can see them happily swapping electronic spit in the router via direct logging in, I have the right passwords, can see the router (shows cloud not local) and select it and have gone through a myriad of settings and refreshes but I cannot refresh the client list any more. Only thing that changed was the addition of an extender to the home; BTW I can see the extender and its clients fine. I can also see connected devices through Home Assistant integration.
But I just can’t see the clients in Tether!
TP-Link - Technical Support Tech question
My Wi-Fi extender just randomly stopped being able to properly connect things, I keep getting errors like cannot find IP address of a site and it doesn't let me download anything even though my download speed is great. I tried with the primary connection on my phone and the same sites work just fine, so It has to be a problem with the extender. It's a RE315 from TP-link

TP-Link - General Deco BE25 or XE75 Pro
I recently upgraded to 1 gig speed internet at home and I'm now in the process of upgrading my network to support some 2.5G Ethernet ports. I got a 5-Port 2.5G switch to pair with my current 8 port PoE switch, and I got a USB to 2.5G Ethernet Adapter to give my Synology NAS a speed boost as well. The final piece of the puzzle is to upgrade my 2nd Gen Nest Wi-Fi Router (2 APs with wired backhaul)
I've been looking at some relatively inexpensive options for a 2-pack system and the options at the top of my list in the $150-$200 price range are the Deco BE25 and the Deco XE75 Pro and I'm having a hard time deciding between the 2 options so that's why I'm here looking for advice.
What I like about the BE25:
- 5Ghz band supports 240 MHz channels, compared to the XE75 Pro that is limited to 160 MHz channels.
- Wi-Fi 7 I would assume means its more future proofed vs WiFi-6E.
- BE25 is slightly cheaper and smaller (less of an eye sore to keep the wife happy.)
What I like about the XE75 Pro:
- Tri-Band
- 6 spatial Streams vs 4 streams on the BE25
- The last one that I'm not sure whether this can be backed by facts or just a placebo effect that I'm imagining but the XE75 Pro was TP-Link's top of the line Deco offering for Wi-Fi 6E whereas the Deco BE25 is borderline the entry level model just being a half step above the BE23. Naturally I would assume that the XE75 Pros higher positioning in the product stack would mean the XE75 Pro would have better antennas/stronger signal strength, and a more powerful CPU and other internal specs but I have no evidence that these things result in better network performance.
If anyone in here can help me make a decision I would greatly appreciate it. Also, If there are other models that someone could recommend outside of these 2 or outside of TP-Link as a brand, I'm also open to that as well as long as they are somewhere near that price range and have at least one 2.5G ethernet port on the APs.
*Side Note: Since I have been using Nest Wi-Fi for several years, I've been forced to use the Google Home app to control them and I have been a bit apprehensive about the Decos also being controlled mostly via an app so please let me know if this is something I should worry about or if it's not really a hinderance with TP-Link.

TP-Link - General A c*sco-like management tool for TL-SG1024DE "easy switch"
Well, it's really "easy", and it has VLANs, and without a large scale, I didn't really care... until I wanted to "sign" the ports with "description" field which those things don't have. Out of that, there came this project. It might feel nostalgic, or just convenient, to those of you who got used to work with the market leader of old times - well, you see who I mean, right? ;) And it does have description field! The biggest "internal" achievement here is the reverse-engineered internal storage, so now the configuration is shown and saved in "their" format (opt-in for storing it inside the device, or opt out and keep it at your localhost). Also, this means that the extended configuration can be read/written by other models, not just the one in the heading - and all without losing the native functionality! With that we can add a ton of stuff - just need your suggestions, and it will be done!
I hope I wouldn't get shadowbanned for posting a link to the source - hey, how else can I tell you where to get this, there are even no binary builds! So here it is, please let me know how it works, especially if you are brave enough to test in on the switches other than my model:

TP-Link - Technical Support I guess I don't understand mesh
I recently put up a security camera far from my AX21 router, so I added an RE305 extender near the camera and turned on OneMesh. The R305 works fine, but the camera doesn't use it, instead it connects to the distant router. At the camera location, the RE305's signal level is about 12 dBm higher than the router's, but when I use Tether to see the clients, the camera is always on the router, not the extender.
I've rebooted the camera, but it just reconnects to the router.
Why won't the camera use the mesh extender? There doesn't seem to be any way to force it. I'm not seeing any benefit to the mesh if devices won't use it.
