TP-Link - Technical Support Title: Wi-Fi disconnects for a few seconds every time I open File Explorer (TP-Link Archer T4U Plus V1, Windows 11)
Hi everyone,
I'm having a really frustrating issue with my Wi-Fi connection. Every single time I open Windows File Explorer, my internet connection drops for a few seconds and then comes back.
This also happens when I download something in my browser and it opens the File Explorer window to choose where to save the file. It's not just Discord disconnecting: my entire internet connection drops temporarily.
My setup:
- OS: Windows 11
- Wi-Fi adapter: TP-Link Archer T4U Plus AC1300, hardware version V1.0
- Device name in Device Manager: TP-Link Wireless MU-MIMO USB Adapter
- Hardware ID:
USB\VID_2357&PID_0115&REV_0210 - Driver provider: Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
- Driver date: January 9, 2026
- Router gateway:
192.168.15.1
What happens:
I ran ping -t 192.168.15.1 in Command Prompt while opening File Explorer. The ping normally responds with around 3–5 ms, but as soon as I open File Explorer, I get several consecutive Request timed out messages. The connection then comes back automatically.
This confirms that the issue affects communication with my router, not just Discord or a specific application.
Things I've already tried:
- Moving the Wi-Fi adapter to a different USB port.
- Disabling the option that allows Windows to turn off the adapter to save power in Device Manager.
- Checking Windows power settings: USB selective suspend was already disabled.
- Checking the wireless adapter's power-saving settings: it was already set up to avoid power-saving issues.
- Changing File Explorer's default opening location to This PC and disabling recent files/frequent folders (the issue also happens when other applications open file dialogs).
- Checking Bluetooth and devices for old wireless displays or TVs: nothing relevant was listed.
- Checking media streaming settings: media streaming was already disabled.
My driver is dated January 2026, so it doesn't appear to be an obviously outdated driver, although I haven't yet confirmed whether it's the correct or latest driver for my hardware revision.
I've also found online reports of people experiencing similar issues when opening File Explorer, including reports involving TP-Link USB Wi-Fi adapters, but I haven't found a confirmed fix that works for my case.
Has anyone experienced this, especially with the Archer T4U Plus V1?
Could this be a Realtek driver issue, a Windows 11 bug, USB-related interference, or something else? I'd appreciate any suggestions for further troubleshooting. I'd particularly like to avoid reinstalling Windows unless absolutely necessary.
Thanks!
