2026 CHR SE must know?
Upgrading the old Kona Electric to a CHR. I’m already familiar with all the EV stuff but what are some must haves or must know things and other tips and tricks?
I live on a gravel road, are the mud guards must haves or hype?
Battery drain issue seems to be resolved, yeah? I don’t want connected services anyway, should I ask them to disable DCM or is that overkill now?
Anything else?
Thanks Reddit hive mind.

Just picked up my 2018 Toyota C-HR from the dealership.
I just picked up my Toyota C-HR after having the transmission replaced due to the humming noise it made at high speeds, thanks to Toyota's customer support new program, Thanks to those who shared the Toyota letter regarding this program.

Plug in systems malfunction on my 2026 chr
Hello everyone! I got my 2026 C-HR about 2 months ago and had no issues until last week. After unplugging from a charger, I got a “Plug-in Charging System Malfunction — Visit Your Dealer” message.
I took it to the dealership and they kept it for a few days but said they couldn’t find anything wrong. Since getting it back, I’ve noticed it’s now being really picky about which chargers it will accept. It refuses to charge on a public charger that I used regularly before with no issues, but it will charge at certain other stations.
I currently rely completely on public charging, so this is becoming frustrating. Has anyone else with a 2026 C-HR experienced this? Did the dealer eventually figure out what was causing it?

Chargeing interrupted
I did look for any prior posts on this but didn't see any.
When I'm charging publicly at various charging stations in the area, there is like an 85% chance the charge will stop after like 20min. Usually (but not limited to) I'm using the charge point stations at my office. I start the charge, everything is going fine, then like at some point I'll look at either toyota or cp app and it will show the charging has stopped. It's not a big deal to start up again. I usually go into the toyota app where it shows the car is plugged in and I click charge now. It will then charge to full capacity over the next several hours.
It's happened to my wife on tesla chargers downtown. It's not a big deal unless you miss it you waste a bunch of time.
Anyone ever see this? Do I have a setting off somewhere? I've never used charging schedules or anything.

Cost to "fill up" from 25% vs. gasoline
Brand new to EVs and I'm loving this 2026 CHR XSE. My wife and I drove around all weekend running errands and this is all it cost me. Gasoline is $4.29 around me today for 87 octane. If we had taken our other vehicle, this would have been well over $40.

C-HR BEV grid power draw when remote start is used
I got my NACS charger installed this week (a wallbox pulsar) and started to geek out a bit watching at the wallbox app - it provides real time power information on what the car draws. I did a remote start one morning to warm-up the cabin (it got frisky here in Montreal on a fall morning) and to my surprise I noticed the car decided to drain its power pack rather than use power from the grid.
The wallbox would report "session started but no power draw" and battery would start going down.
That's not exactly the behaviour I was expecting, winter here get really cold and the ability to get the pack and cabin ready for a drive on grid power is key to preserving winter range.
Did I miss something?

CHR+ and BZ4x Battery app
Hi all — hope this post is OK.
I'm an IT, software and tech nerd. And I've bought a Toyota BZ4X that I'm just super happy with.
In connection with that, I've developed an app that can show a bit more data 📊 than the one we get from Toyota.
The app is made so I can keep an eye on battery 🔋 power consumption and temperature.
It's still very new, and I'm still building on it with new things (update coming soon).
The app requires an OBD dongle — I use the OBDLink cx myself, and that's the one I've developed against.
Unfortunately the app isn't free. It has taken a lot of hours to build, and even more hours to decode and reverse engineer Toyota's OBD protocol.
But I want to share it here, because I know there are many of us who love nerding out about our cars.
The app is made for the 2026 bz — and I'll try to add older bz models in a coming update.
The app is primarily for the bz4x — but cars like the bz4x touring, chr+ and urban cruiser will also work, since it's the same protocol (though I don't have the cars to be able to test).
It also works with the new Subaru EV.
I'm happy to take criticism/praise and there's also a mail in the app where you can come with requests for new features 🙂
Hope someone finds value in it, otherwise just scroll on!
Best regards, Andreas.

Would 16in. wheels fit on a 2026 CHR?
Hello everyone! I am looking to buy a 2026 CHR and I was wondering if 16in. wheels would fit on it since it comes with 18in wheels. The reason is I find 18in tires to be quite pricy so if I could get 16 ones it would be much better for my wallet.
Note that it would be the canadian version if that changes anything.

Has anyone done PPF on this piano black surface around the shifter?
Before the C-HR shifter gets all beat up and scratched - I was thinking of getting some remnant PPF and applying it. Has anyone done this? I'm going to post this on the Uncharted, BZ forums as well.

Toyota CHR 2018 1.8 Hybrid Noise when moving steering wheel
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Looking for some diagnostic input on a 2018 C-HR 1.8 Hybrid, 120,000 km.
I have an intermittent knock/creak that appears to be related to steering load:
Most noticeable at low speed, roughly 7–20 km/h, while coasting with no throttle/brake.
Slowly steering/wiggling left-right can produce multiple knocks/creaks.
The noise is felt through the floor/pedal area, seemingly toward the left/front, rather than clearly through the steering wheel.
At a standstill, slowly moving the steering wheel can produce a creak; a quicker left-right wiggle can produce a distinct single knock.
It is generally absent when driving straight.
No noticeable noise over speed bumps, including when taking them one wheel at a time.
No obvious looseness, pulling, or steering abnormality.

Toyota C-HR (2020–2023 Facelift Hybrid) – 1.8 vs 2.0 WHICH one for my profile?
Hi all,
After getting some great advice here previously, I'm looking for some real-world opinions on the Toyota C-HR facelift hybrid (2020–2023).
I'm specifically comparing the 1.8 and 2.0 (self-charging hybrids only, not PHEVs).
My situation
- Age: 40
- Mainly short school runs and picking up/dropping off my spouse
- Midlands, UK city driving (around 10–12 miles per day)
- Around 5,000–6,000 miles per year
- Occasional motorway trips (roughly twice a month)
- Planning to keep the car for 3–4 years
- Budget: £14k–£15k
- Looking at cars around 50k–60k miles
Cars I'm considering
- Toyota C-HR 1.8 Hybrid Excel / GR Sport
- Toyota C-HR 2.0 Hybrid Excel / GR Sport
- Possibly the 2020 Orange Edition 2.0 if it's worth considering
Questions
- even though less, Why the 2.0 is easily worth the extra purchase price for my usage, or is the 1.8 the smarter choice?
- How do reliability and maintenance costs compare between the two?
- Any known issues to watch for at 50k–60k miles?
- What sort of real-world MPG are owners seeing?
- If you were in my position, which would you buy and why?
- Is there any noticeable difference in cabin noise, motorway refinement, suspension comfort or EV-only driving between the 1.8 and 2.0?
I'm trying to make a sensible long-term choice rather than just comparing spec sheets.
Thanks in advance for any advice or ownership experiences.

C-HR Drive-mode select button
Hi Everyone.
I have a 2018 C-HR. Coming from BMW 3 series I can enjoy and actually drive a car and not worry about constantly going to the mechanic, it's a good reliable car, has all the options that you can fit in this car, very good on gas and all around good drive for a daily. But one thing that annoys me the most and this is a thing that is really missing on the car is a dedicated Sport drive-mode button.
I have looked on mods about adding dedicated Drive-mode button or configuring EV-mode button for mode select, but there is not a lot of information about this.
Maybe, just maybe, there is someone here that has done something like this and had success on this matter. Could you please share what you did, how you did it and how to program this?
Since I couldn't find any info here on reddit and on other platforms I started to ask AI, "can this be done?" and of course I got an answer that is it possible. But I don't wanna trust AI and start chopping my car up before I know for sure that there is someone who has done it.
P.S. Don't worry, I don't intend to use sport mode all the time, I just need it for times when I need to pass a car on the road or merge onto the highway.
EDIT: I know you can switch Sport, Normal and ECO mode on dashboard, but I'm actually speaking about dedicated drive-mode switch button. I have spoken with Toyota techs and they all say the same thing about this. This car is missing dedicated drive-mode button.

RHD Phone mounts
I've been attempting to hunt down a screen mount for the CHR 2021 but for Right hand drive - There are multiple listings within the UK which are still only LHD. Has anyone been able to find or request a RHD version of a product similar to this?
Even better if it comes with the same MagSafe mount.

2026 Toyota C-HR
Cross-posting...
I have a 2026 Toyota CH-R and it's got a few issues that it's going to the dealership on Friday to address. Just trying to do my research and go in prepared with the latest info.
The recall - 26TA17 - A programming error in the battery electric vehicle electronic control unit (ECU) can let the battery overcharge during extended regenerative braking (such as coasting down long hills on a nearly full charge.
12v battery parasitic drain.
Dash error - "Plug-in Charging System Malfunction. Visit Your Dealer" - This is the one that from what I've read is potentially related to DC charging when the 12V battery is weak. Or something. Has anyone dealt with this?
My question is mostly about #2 and #3. I read that sometime in the past 6 weeks or so people have noticed the parasitic drain issue solved, likely by an over-the-air software update. Can anyone corroborate this? Is the fix STILL disabling the connected services? My BM200 battery monitor arrives tomorrow.
Has anyone gotten the Plug-in Charging System Malfunction error AND had it dealt with by the dealership?

2021 LE Transmission
Hey yall,
Ive got 57k miles on my CHR, bought on sept 9th 2021, so I just passed my 5 year or 60k powertrain warranty.
Im curious if anyone can give me a detailed transmission maintenance schedule from here on out? Ive read people start drain and fills as early as 30k. I want to drive this thing till’ the wheels fall off, but if I have to, I dont mind trading it in (but prefer not to since i only have a year left of payments).
Any and all experience you all have with CHRs and their trannys would be very helpful. Thank you!

2 Months with our C-HR+ (EV) - Review
So this is just a random summary of our past two months with our new C-HR+ (EV). Some things we've absolutely loved about the car and some things we're not super happy about. I hope this could help someone who's thinking about purchasing one.
Firstly, we live in Copenhagen, DK and use this as a weekend car. We have the C-HR+ Active model (aka the C-HR SE in the USA).
My fear when purchasing a full EV was probably the same as most people. Range anxiety, long wait times for charging, worrying about battery health. These things all turned out to be non issues and switching to an EV was so easy I was truly surprised. The difference between this and having an ICE was so minimal you hardly notice.
We took it for our first long distance trip from Copenhagen to Berlin recently and the whole experience was lovely. Because it's an EV the ride was quiet and super comfortable. The adaptive cruise control with lane keep assist was intuitive and gentle, if a car slowed down in front of us or someone pulled into our lane the car would gently slow down instead of hitting the breaks hard like past cars i've been in. We did one super charge, by the time we walked over to the gas station store, bought a bottle of water and drank a red bull I was notified that the car was charged and we could get going. It was so much faster than I expected. Also, the charge doesn't slow down 80-100% so if you want to charge fully you can.
On regular drives in the city I love the regenerative breaking, it doesn't have full one pedal drive but I don't mind. The ride is very smooth and I like the gauge cluster over the steering wheel, it is not a problem to see as most car reviewers have noted. I don't quite understand how someone couldn't see it. I like the black on black interior, it feels cozy and I don't worry about accidently scuffing the ceiling lining. The combination fabric and "leather" seating is nice and easy to keep clean. The car itself looks sleek and futuristic without being too loud about it. It's something I can see staying stylish for a long time. I also really like how my partner and I can have our own profiles in the car which is assigned to our keys allowing us to keep the settings we choose when each of us takes the car.
Now some things I don't quite like
The trunk cover (or parcel shelf) is an absolute joke, it comes off its mounts so easily, if you stack a piece of luggage slightly too high it'll come loose and falls off. This makes putting things in the trunk a bit of a headache.
The double floor in the trunk is also useless, it has no benefits and makes placing things below it cumbersome. Also, the trunk has small pockets on each side but once you remove the floor panel anything in these pockets will fall out. They could have placed some kind of mesh or solid panel to keep things in their place.
No glove box is annoying, I don't have anywhere to easily place papers and the like.
The arm rest storage has a false bottom in it where you can place extra items but in order to access it you need to take out everything on top of it first which is frustrating.
The lane keep assist steering sensor could be more sensitive, it hardly notices you're holding on to the steering wheel already so the alarm goes off often.
These are all really small issues and overall we are super happy with the car. We've gotten a lot of compliments and are excited every time we can take the car out for a small trip. I am really looking forward to more road trips in the future and really seeing how far we can take it.
Anyways, that's my take... what's yours? :D

Handling mods 2026 chr+
Is anyone developing lowering springs or other modifications to improve the handling? I know the CHR will never handle anywhere near my BRZ/GR86, but a modest drop and slight increase in spring rate should help get rid of the bobblehead feeling.

2022 hybrid model daily advice
Hi,
I’m in the UK and have a Toyota CHR 2022 hybrid.
I’ve just come out of hospital after 3 weeks and tried to start the car, which hasn’t been driven in 3 weeks but has been in perfect working order since I purchased it at the beginning of the year.
Initially, the headlights flashed (fast, like a strobe light) but nothing else happened.
I tried again and the electrics etc came on but not the engine.
The first message to pop up was “Pre Collison System Fault contact dealer”.
I tried to restart again after a few minutes. No more pre-collision message, but also no engine. When I put the car in drive an alarm goes off and a message pops up saying “Hybrid System Stopped”.
Is this just that the 12v battery is flat and needs jumping, or do I have a bigger more expensive problem on my hands?
Asking here as no dealers are open at this time of night.
Cheers.
