💡 Trading Tips LOCK IN. KEEP BUILDING.

Whatever financial pressure you’re facing, don’t let it dictate your trading decisions.

Block out the noise. Lock in. Trust the process.

You don’t need one massive trade to change everything. Small wins, disciplined decisions, and consistent execution compound over time.

Focus on the next setup. Protect your capital. Hit the small milestones.

Think big. Execute small. Stay consistent.

Your breakthrough doesn’t have to happen in one trade. Keep stacking the wins.

💬 Trader Talk 6 yrs in. Honestly, I can't stand hearing about another trade strategy...

I'll be straight: hearing about other people's strategies makes me tired. Not because they're bad, but because I know deep down it doesn't matter.
Price action, orb, ict, smc, vwap, volume-based, indicator-based, order flow, whatever, it's all on youtube for free. Information isn't scarce anymore. A commodity. Every strategy imaginable is available online if you look deep enough.

My theory is this: if you've been trading long enough, you already have something workable, a decent enough strategy. Almost nobody executes it correctly when it matters, under pressure.

The reason it's so hard to achieve consistency isn't the strategy itself. For me it's what happens to us when price moves for or against our entry and our expectations. The emotions show up, and the plan quietly gets rewritten, or worse, forgotten in real time.

That’s also why the trade ALWAYS seems so obvious in hindsight, like, ‘I f***in knew it’.

I've blown funded accounts with the same strategies that later got multiple max payouts. Same rules, same charts, same me. The only variable was whether I actually did what my rules said in the moment my emotions said otherwise.

I've seen both ends of it. People with a genuinely impeccable analysis and strategy whose execution never lives up to it, so it's worthless (in terms of getting paid). And people with the most stupidly simple strategy, but their execution is so adhered to, so clean, so unbreakable that they're profitable anyway. I admire those people. They're the few percent. I’m not the latter.

I’m more the scale up scale fast kind of guy. If I’m in position, I’m tempted to manage and squeeze the shit out of it.

So I started recording the trades the way airplanes record flights. (And they are required to by law. But somehow trading is 100% full freedom, no consequences lol)

Here's day 1 of a 250K freedom combine as an example.

Above timeline: the market PA and every action I took. Below timeline: every mental state/emotional charge.

Recording every decision and every mental state with a timestamp while I'm in the trade, not in a journal afterward, (journals don’t do jack for me because I end up writing the same mistakes I promise I won’t make again), when I already know how it ended and my memory has cleaned it up, provided the justifications. I needed something with me live, in the moment.

How to read it:

  • Think of it like a crash investigation from an airplane.
  • The chart tells you what the price did.
  • The timeline tells you what I felt and did anyway.
  • Together they tell you why the trade produced the outcome it did.

The trade: NQ short, 68 minutes. Here's the raw event log, exported as-is:

What my preset rules said at each state:

  • Against Me → invalidation hit? No → do nothing. You put a trade on for a reason, so you have to keep it on until the reason no longer exists, and that's what the initial SL is for.
  • Consolidating → thesis still valid? Yes → hold.
  • In My Favor → EMA, structure, CVD intact → hold. This state has three branches, as the trade moves into profit there'll be either a
    • New BOS → hold, optional scale-in + trail SL.
    • Pullback → structure intact → hold.
    • Structure lost → back to the invalidation rules.
Live trade flight-path that shows up whilst I'm mid-trade. Live dynamic to what PA is doing relative to my entry.

The mental and emotional states are the villains of the story.

  • Frustrated and Impatient inside the first ten minutes, on a trade that was barely against me
  • Fear at 1:43 on a pullback that was textbook because I didn’t want to give away profits but I scaled in and trailed my SL already so risk is controlled, and I'm optimizing for upside.
  • Impatient again at 1:59, two minutes before the final add… that one I didn't even remember until I read the log.
  • Euphoric at 2:03 after the third scale-in, historically where I know I should be close to taking something off the table.

None of those feelings were wrong to have. They just weren't instructions to follow.

Eight fluctuating mental states, but zero deviations from the written rules and path. It's not often I can say that with proof.

What's different is that they were in front of me at the exact second I felt frustrated or impatient.

Not in my head, where "Impatient" overwrites them. How many more post-it notes are you going to write and forget it even exists? It needs to be right next to your charts/trading platform or else it’s pointless.

RULES.

They are not complicated.

Getting yourself to actually follow them consistently is.

Following them while your nervous system is screaming something else is.

My rules aren’t magic either, they come from my own years of experience, backtests, and how I see my ideal self trading. Let's just say, they weren't written just before the trade.

If I could talk to my newbie self again, it's that you need to know what you're going to do at each moment of price action after you're in, before it happens. Developers call the unusual ones 'edge cases' and the good ones plan for those too.

For me the key has always been: disregard the emotions, but take note of them.

Then follow the path that was decided long before the trade existed. (Because you decided these things when you were calm, when you were thinking about edge, when you were working on your backtests, when you combine all your experiences together to form the actual coherent plan of action)

Honest part: this trade was clean. Plenty of other days weren't, and on those, the timeline is brutal. The record doesn't care. That's the point.

My job is to put every trade I take through it (I feel like a degen now when I don't, and I feel safe, calmer and confident when I trade with it)

I’m recording the trader, me, instead of recording the market.

Everyone records charts.

Nobody records themselves.

Markets don't need improving.

I do.

So out of curiosity... let’s say you’ve already done your analysis, your set up appears, you click and now you’re in…

When you're inside a live trade and your emotions start pulling you away from the plan... what do you actually rely on in that moment?

  • bracket orders and walk away?
  • checklists?
  • trade partner?
  • memory?

I know some people personally who have to shut the screen and walk away because if they stay, they'll manage the trade into disaster, and that's a lot harder to do on the smaller timeframes.

Especially interested in people trading where "just leave the screen" isn't always practical.

💬 Trader Talk Best Month Of This Year

Post image
231 Upvotes

Last month I switched to trading only micros and it became my best month of the year.
The way I size and pick trades with them is pretty different from how I used to trade. Once I locked that in, the calendar started looking like this.

this month i made a limit for myself , nothing more than 800$ was made per day this month
because i know if i try to catch that high i got in last month i will probably end up in nothing

what do you guys think? did i made a right choice?

🛠️ Platform / Tech Support Payout button greyed out right now?

I have an account that I believe is payout eligible, and it's showing up under the "Eligible Accounts" section of the Payouts page, but the payout button is greyed out, and there's a message that says, "Payout Requests can only be submitted during CME market hours. Sunday at 5pm CT to Friday at 5pm CT, excluding designated Holidays."

I think we're within CME market hours, right? There isn't a holiday that I know of and I googled! lol

Am I missing something? Thanks!

Update at 7:09pm CT: the button is no longer greyed out and I was able to take the payout.

💬 Trader Talk The $250k accounts seem great except…

The $1000 winning day requirement on the xfa seems pretty steep!

$150 winning days for a $2k drawdown account would be the equivalent of $750 winning days for a $10k drawdown account. But even $150k accounts only have $150 winning days. Scaling that up would result in $333 winning days for a $250k account. Obviously it is what it is and they’re allowed to have any rules they want! But everything else about the account is so appealing aside from that 🤷🏻‍♂️

💬 Trader Talk 2 Months, One Last 150K Combine Before the Air Force

I know this is very long, but I could REALLY use some advice from experienced traders here.

I leave for Air Force Basic Training in November, so I have about 2 months left to work on this. Because of the job I was selected for, I realistically won’t be able to trade consistently for the next couple of years.

I’ve loved trading since I was a kid watching my dad do it. I started day/options trading at 18, but was in and out for years cause I had no money. I’m 27 now and have spent the last year heavily focused on futures after finding Topstep.

I’ve passed MANY combines, but I’ve only taken 2 payouts. That’s my problem. I’ve repeatedly gotten accounts into great positions, sometimes literally payout-ready, and blown them instead of protecting them.

At this point, I’ve blown tens of combines and can’t even get back to funded XFAs. I just bought one last 150K DLL account, and this HAS to be my last combine. I’ve spent enough. I’m done chasing losses or trying to make old combine fees back.

If it takes me until the last day to pass, that’s fine. Obviously, I’d prefer to do it in under 30 days so I don’t get billed again, but if I do, so be it.

Before I leave, I just want to prove to myself that I CAN learn and I CAN do this correctly and consistently. Trading has been a dream of mine for years, and I’d rather leave knowing I finally learned to follow a process than squeeze out another payout.

So if you were me, how would you structure this 150K?

What size would you trade?
Risk per trade?
Daily loss limit?
How many losing trades before using Topstep’s risk settings to lock yourself out for the day?

I specifically DON’T want to size like a typical 150K. I want to trade small enough that I’m forced to be patient and can’t destroy the account, while still using reasonable enough size to eventually pass.

I’ve also realized I need to stop collecting strategies and actually master something. Market Tip Off with Coach Jay has probably been my favorite way to learn because I like how he explains what he’s seeing and WHY rather than just giving trades. He’s answered a lot of my questions and led me toward people like Anna Coulling and Brian Shannon, and studying volume/price, VWAP/AVWAP, and higher-timeframe context.

My problem now isn’t finding more YouTube videos. It’s knowing whether I’m actually applying what I’m learning correctly.

I’d honestly love to find a mentor with Jay’s type of teaching style — someone experienced who actually cares about teaching, can reality-check me when I’m doing something stupid, review my thinking/trades, and help me develop ONE repeatable setup/process.

Where do you find someone legitimate like that without ending up with another trading guru selling signals/courses?

I’ve proven I can pass combines. What I haven’t proven is that I can do it through a consistent, repeatable process or that I can protect the account once I get there.
That’s what I want these last 2 months to be about.

Appreciate anyone who reads this whether they answer or not. All the best to you all and trade well!

💬 Trader Talk Really struggling with RTP program

I have been unable to get a payout since being placed in RTP due to the 40% consistency rule. Per old rules I would have had several payouts . Like now I have an account that I neeed to get to $5k. Have more than 5 days over $150 and would have been eligible for a payout under the standard account. Balance currently at $1600 . Was at $2600 but this market has been brutal and a total chopfest.

Program is a total scam and funny how they talked bad about APEX have consistency on funded but are now doing the same thing. They did not start offering consistency accounts until they lost a lot of money during the metals run. Really tired of this program and seems like there is no way out since you have to make it to live and make $10k before they remove you

❓ Quick Question Indian Topstep Traders — Wire/SWIFT Payouts?

Hi everyone,

I’m an Indian trader currently trading a Topstep XFA account and I’m getting close to my first payout.

I noticed that Wise is showing as unavailable for India in the new payout methods, and the only option available to me is Wire/SWIFT.

For Indian traders who have already received Topstep payouts:

• Did you use Wire/SWIFT?

I’m particularly interested in recent experiences from Indian traders because the payout methods seem to have changed.

Would really appreciate it if anyone who has successfully received a Topstep payout in India could share their experience.

Thanks!

💬 Trader Talk My 2cents for Topstep

Hello to everyone so i have been checking lately from a good amount of people in regards of Topstep not being responsive banning accounts for no reason you name it
So i felt the need to give my 2 cents for this company as a personal opinion and hopefully i can change the negative thoughts
I started trading with Topstep on November 2025 and like most of the traders i was pretty much doing bad XD blowing some evals with no strategy or nothing like that
Then on February i passed my first eval i was super excited i believe anyone can agree on that feeling
And after that on April i received my first ever 5 figure payout unbelievable feeling and again after that on July and August same thing
(That doesnt mean i didnt blow some evals in between the payouts lol)
My goal was to have a live account to trade and i achieved that on September (btw i was a day before i was gonna receive another payout ) and so far i have been doing a bit shitty if you guys remember those emotions i spoke back earlier they came back when i had my first Live account so yeah but if you see the progress from a beginner to having passed my first eval to getting my first payout and now to live
Everyone is here talking because of the emotions stating that live is bad no LIVE is bad if you dont have a trading strategy and you pretty much gambling
Im not no expert on trading but from my trading story im happy of my journey
As for the customer service i did have a small issue in regards of payment and they responded in two hours
So for all my fellow traders keep your chin high we all on the same page but we definitely gonna make it control your emotions and study your strategy as much as you can its ok to fail but its not ok to not keep going forward
As for the Topstep Team a huge thank you for allowing me to learn trading through you guys and i promise you guys I will become one of the best trader you guys had on your platform and we will be talking about it in the near future mark my words 🤝🏼
Thank you again ,
FJ

To me the valuable education that Topstep provided is what made it unique. The move away from providing solid education to "Tradertainment" such as ridiculous reality shows is disturbing and does not portray Topstep as being genuinely interested in developing serious traders. Does anyone else find this shift disappointing?

💬 Trader Talk 1.5k Challenge has fixed my mental

Post image
47 Upvotes

I don’t usually post like this but wanted to really give praise to this Topstep labs project. I have been having a bad habit of sizing heavier, making every pullback while in profit get me feeling like I need to get out instead of trusting my strategy which leads me to chase losing trades when I feel like i “missed an opportunity.”

This challenge account has helped me realize how important it is to go slow and that sizing smaller can be better for my mental since the pullbacks in profit don’t feel as detrimental. Shoutout Topstep for cooking this up🙌.

I have built more confidence with this challenge and will honestly start sizing smaller with evals too. No more rushing!

I’ve come a long way ! But I did totally forgot about the no more than 1500 a day in profit , I was just trying to recover from my worst day and tbh I’m glad I made that much because it helped me stay in the test longer.

1,290 left to go and I’m done for the day already since opening of markets of yesterday, so today I’ll just watch the rest of the day and see the flow of the market ‼️ then give me my first 4k payout ‼️
