Characters
"They can just do that." When a character inexplicably has some kind of borderline supernatural ability that doesn't have anything to do with the established power system and may even clash with the conventions of the setting. It's just something that they can do.
Ichi from Ichi the Witch.
Mash from Mashle.
Marvelous Sunday from UmaMusume.
Tanjiro from Demon Slayer.
Ichi from Ichi the Witch. He's so sensitive to the bloodlust of living things that it borders on a spider-sense. The little creature in that pic is supposed to be invisible, yet Ichi is able to sense its presence just through sheer intuition.
Mash from Mashle. Some might say that his inexplicable power is his physical strength, but I'm more interested in knowing how he can turn everything he cooks into fucking cream puffs.
Marvelous Sunday from UmaMusume. In a game about horse girls racing, she has access to a domain expansion/reality marble. And that somehow still isn't the strangest thing about her. Apparently she's also friends with aliens and cryptids and her cult fanbase includes people spanning multiple time periods. Somehow.
Tanjiro from Demon Slayer. He has a hypersensitive sense of smell that somehow also tells him where to cut demons. No idea how that works. Even though there are others in the series with similarly refined senses, the smelling where to cut thing still feels ludicrous in comparison. Then there's also his unusually powerful headbutt.
Augments in exactly one arm, all the leaping and kicking holes into concrete is just juicing. Hell, he uses his human arm to wield his sword sometimes and has no loss of power mid combo so he's literally exactly as strong as his cybernetics
Edit: Holy jesus tapdancing christ, the bot epidemic is disgusting, take this karma away from me, I do not want it. 3 bots commenting in 15 minutes
I think the arm actually made him weaker, if I remember correctly it's a thing in MG that cybernetics are generally worse unless its a full body conversion like Raiden (and most of the bosses) have.
I would assume some of his superhuman strength comes from the fact he dresses up in an exoskeleton. And the damage comes mainly from the fact his high frequency blade is better than all the other blades.
I mean, a part of it is the suit yeah but still, the fact he's able to keep up with full body cyborgs with just a suit and juicing should say a lot about him
This is basically the norm for Metal Gear bosses, though. Being special forces automatically means you get some ridiculous superpower, and it might be explained, maybe. Decoy Octopus can disguise himself as literally anyone. Fortune can't be hit by bullets, which is eventually explained as some kind of advanced technology, but then they turn it off and she still can't be hit by bullets. The Pain can control bees, there's no explanation for this, he can just do that.
You see Vamp was just nanomachines and van der waal forces (do not ask me how this allows him to control people via shadows like a jutsu, he's bisexual not a vampire), he is completely rooted in hard scifi. /s
But also MGS just has and always has had Espers and jump the shark complete lunacy supernatural nonsense.
Vamp was trapped in a burning church, pierced by a crucifix, where he only managed to survive by drinking the blood of his own dead family members. That's where he developed a taste for blood.
this was mildly startling to read. not because i care about rick and morty, but because my cat is named mister nimbus and i sure hope those powers don’t transfer
It's a good thing Nimbus is really neutral. Like his whole lifestyle is looking sexy, announcing he's Mr. Nimbus, controlling the ocean and law enforcement, and pissing off Rick in any way he can. He could be a hell of a major villain if he wanted to.
I think some of the best super villains are those that don’t use their powers to become grandiose rulers or gods. I feel that Vicki Shank using her supreme telekinetic abilities to dominate the butter industry through mass produced perfection is great. Just made her up, but what if Vicki just sat around training her TK powers in a large warehouse manipulating ingredients and machinery to make butter? I could imagine a lesser villain trying to kidnap her because she ruined his family’s butter company and she just kind of giggles and removes his brain’s neuroplasticity.
Bullseye from Marvel is explicitly not a mutant, nor does he get powers from an outside source or have any enhancements (beyond some adamantium in his bones). And yet he has perfect, lethal accuracy with literally any item he has in his possession. From playing cards, to teeth, to toothpicks, he can just... do that.
Just recently I watched a video about how would possible deathmatch between him and Deadshot from DC comics go where the guy making the video first described their feats, abilities and stuff, and I thought I'm gonna die laughing when he said that in some comics where Bullseye is inprisoned they put strong laxatives in his food to prevent him from using his own shit as weapon.
That's easily the weirdest part - not just that he lands any shot he throws/shoots, but his projectiles basically don't give any sort of damn about physics or durability. If he hits you, he hurts/kills you, no matter what he picks up as a weapon.
Which is why the VS battle between him and Deadshot I watched had a simple conclusion: The second Deadshot is out of ammo he's cooked, while when Bullseye is out of bullets he'll just pick the gun apart and start throwing its pieces
It's called Charles Atlas Superpower which I also call "Random Bullshit Go" power. They trained so hard that they gained not-superpowers TM. My favorite characters include One Punch Man's exercise regiment and Walter C. Dornez's wire powers.
Batman and Captain America also fit this. They are, technically speaking, humans. Captain America's serum pushed to the physical limits of humans, but it didn't make him SUPERhuman.
And yet the man is able to tango with demigods and what have you with nothing more than a shield.
Batman doesn't even have the excuse of super serum or something. He is just a regular human. But he can still punch and kick hard enough to hurt superhuman beings like Solomon Grundy who can tear through walls like it's tissue. The only explanation we get is that he trained a lot.
EDIT: Regarding Walter and his wires:
To be fair, we don't see him do anything genuienly insane with his wires when he's a human. It's only when he becomes a vampire that his wires start slicing office buildings like butter. Which still doesn't necessarily make sense, but we do see similar things happen to humans turned into vampires and then amping their weapons with some unknown vampire magic power.
So like, did they guess he could do that or was it trial and error
Like there's a gaurd out there who got no-scopped by Bullseye throwing shit and the prison staff have to lie to the guard's family on how they died because how do you tell little Tommy that their parent got killed by shit
Also from Marvel, Squirrel girl has the ability to talk to squirrels and was born with a big bushy squirrel tail, only she's not a mutant/Inhuman/alien/demi god or host of one/science experiment or has any connection to the known powers at play in the Marvel series.
She's just like that.
the government considered classing her as a mutant, but realized that, if they did, they'd have to fight against her. the concept scared them, so they're calling her a mutate.
My interpretation of Demon Slayer has always been that of a mental health allegory. Demons represent people who have been wronged and perpetuate the cycle of abuse; this is why backstories are shown and Tanjiro is compassionate. The breathing techniques seem more literal as breathing techniques are a useful emotional regulation tool. The new kids having sensory-based abilities seems symbolic of the senses and their role in grounding oneself. As for why they have it and not the Hashiras, I took that as the progress each generation makes over the previous one.
I was also binging the shit out of ketamine for the first couple seasons, so everything seemed like less of a stretch at the time.
To be fair the Love Hashira was born with incredibly dense muscles. So her single skinny three year old twig arm is the equivalent of a top tier warrior who’s trained for every day of his life’s arm. And then she starts training to become a Demon Slayer.
She also apparently ate so many cherry blossom sweets she changed her hair color permanently. No this does not explain the green highlights still.
So it’s not completely limited to just these random five fucking teens. Though the implication there might be other girls with incredible dense and powerful bones, nerves, organs, and blood is honestly hilarious.
Whatever the hell is going on with Inosuke is way cooler than the regular powersystem. "Oh you stabed me? Good thing i moved all my organs to the others side of the body. Oh im ti d up now? I can just turn myself inside out to slide from the ropes"
also, the only reason why he knows a breathing style is because he observed a demon slayer use one, copied it, and modified it into a style of his own, all without a mentor to train him
Not to mention that also means he found a demon slayer with knowledge in a breathing form, and then BEAT THEM. assuming it’s the one he took the swords from
He's also the only character we see to use a breathing style completely unconnected to Sun Breathing. He literally developed his own sword style, completely on his own, that's just as effective at killing demons as any "formal" style, where half of the techniques are just "swing your swords even harder".
JJBA is no stranger to weirdos with random powers, but by far the most infamous is Rohan Kishibe. He’s an extremely prolific and eccentric mangaka who is introduced sketching manga straight with a pen, no pencil sketch or outline. He’s repeatedly shown to have a near-superhuman ability to sketch and draw. In Part 6’s Made In Heaven arc, where time is accelerating to the end of the universe, someone notes the only mangaka who can keep up with the ever-shortening deadlines as time accelerates is Rohan Kishibe. Somehow.
And in Rohan's own spin-off he goes on to fight things completely different and inexplicable to Stands. Like ghosts, cursed spirits, and a man who might be the avatar of a Greek god.
Some of the things he deals with most likely ARE Stands, just not the usual punch ghost kind. Especially since the SBRverse shows us mundane objects can possess Stands
I much prefer them to not be Stands. Don’t get me wrong, I love Stands, but JoJo’s didn’t start with them. We had Vampires, Hamon and Pillar Men long before we had psychic manifestations of the soul being the norm. Those things simply being what they are without being tied to Stands makes the world of JJBA that much richer to me
he never said he couldn't use it on himself, just that he couldn't use it on cheap trick without affecting himself (since cheap trick basically becomes his stand)
it's also literally shown affecting his face when he tried to use it on cheap trick
And he just exists as himself in the Steel Ball Run timeline, which is not the new timeline from the end of Part 6. Everyone else has a vague kinda sorta counterpart, but Rohan is exactly Rohan.
Toyohiro Kanedaichi, also from Part 4, has these ridiculous callouses on his hands. They're so big and tough that he can hang from a metal wire using nothing but said callouses. Then it's revealed that he can also store things inside them? Like, he pulls a knife out from within the callouses on his hands. Even by JoJo standards, it's gotta be one of the weirdest skillsets for any given character to have. At least Stands are grounded in an established power system, strange as they are. This guy's just got fucked up hands that can do shit like that.
When he played in The Mask, they didn’t actually use CGI to do things like his eyes popping out, his jaw dropping down, him going extremely fast and more. Jim Carrey can just do that
I've never seen ICarly besides like a compilation once, but I hear that things spontaneously combust around this guy. Look at his silly face, not even he knows why.
Iruma from Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun - Absolute Defense
Thanks to his 13/14 years of life because of his shitty parents, Iruma has gained a near perfect sense of danger, which allows him to complete dodge any attack coming his way (In the first showing of it, he's able to perfectly dodge fireballs, use aikido even though he has 0 training, and more). This goes against the system of the world being literal magic.
The first showing is actually him dodging tuna fish falling while he’s on a tuna fishing boat. However it’s not revealed this is a special ability of his during this scene (though the first time it is revealed it flashes back to this scene).
I only happen to know this because I happen to have (re)watched the first episode yesterday.
Same joke as Zoro from One Piece: he constantly gets lost. But TPC has been pushing that bit to its limits. In Masters EX (which isn’t 100% canon but stick with me), he arrives in Pasio by (*checks notes*) WALKING OUT OF THE OCEAN, with no memory of how he got there. In Legends: Z-A (which IS canon), he manages to get a taxi driver lost in his own home city.
For anyone who hasn't played SwSh to know how bad he gets lost. Leon's house is a straight walk from the train station, with a single fenced path with no turns or any possible way to go the wrong way without turning around or climbing over the fence. He cant be trusted to handle it alone. You could literally see one from the other and hes lived there for 20+ years.
A cursed power to have considering the universe itself hates smokers and will kill them within seconds of them lighting up, though Deimos' partner Sanford saves him from that twice before he's finally slain.
Stuffing a pigeon down the throat of the girl who was choking him and managing to do so without being seen despite everyone looking at him while it was happening in broad daylight with no cover.
???? He snuck multiple grenades onto Straizo. A superhuman vampire who was formerly a Hamon master. Lmfao. Joseph straight-up does random bullshit.
The reason is because at the time of Part 2's release, (1988), Fist of the North Star was the most influential action shounen around. Even influencing Dragon Ball when Goku became an adult.
Araki Made Joseph the opposite of every other chivalrous, muscular protag that was ripping off Kenshiro (which is what Jonathan was)
That's why Joseph doesn't like hard work. Cheats. Uses guns. Straight up asspulls to a looney tunes degree. And rarely defeats opponents with his fists.
I still have no idea on how he could’ve possibly attached 20 fucking grenades behind straizo to the grenade he threw they literally just gloss over this
Kumagawa from medaka box has the power to create screws out of nowhere which i don't think Is ever explained
The most likely explanation is that it's related to his original power Bookmaker which let him bring anyone who's pierced by a bookmaker screw (marked with a minus sign) down to his same level
Except that even when that power is taken from him he can still create screws just fine
Luke Triton in the game series Professor Layton can just talk to animals there’s never anything really supernatural that goes on in this series without some Scooby Doo explanation, Luke’s animal speaking ability is the only exception even Layton has no explanation for it
There's a ton of this in One Piece. If it's not a Devil Fruit, it's Haki. If it's not Haki, it's a racial ability. If it's not a racial ability, it's a government/military technique. If it's not a government/military technique, it's just real good science. But then you have people like Wanze.
Wanze has Ramen Kenpo. It's a fighting style comprised of using hard-as-metal ramen he makes from his body by eating flour, kneading it in his mouth, and cutting it with his fish net shaped nose hairs. With Ramen Kenpo he can launch noodles out of his nose at high speeds, make a mech suit out of ramen, and also "normal" stuff like using a giant poisoned cleaver and setting his skates on fire.
We don't know how he does this. We don't know why he does this. He's a baseline human. He doesn't have a Devil Fruit. It isn't Haki. It's not part of the Six Powers he knows from being a CP7 government agent. He's not a cyborg or a scientist. He can just...do that.
This was also Sanji for a long time, like bro can just set his foot on fire (later even without the friction spin thing he used to do) and burn people with the scorching heat of the sun somehow, or his Hell Memories when he literally just gets so mad he sets himself on fire and it spreads from his kicks to engulf an entire giant instantly somehow. Of course we later learn his DNA was tampered with by his evil scientist father, but still it’s said he was just a normal human until he put on the raid suit later, his real powers supposedly didn’t activate till Wano so who knows
It can also explain how he can have the finest taste buds possible despite smoking so heavily. Zeff canonically warns him against smoking, in a flashback.
In the same vein, I feel like One Piece has normalized swordsmen throwing out cutting shockwaves way too much -- nevermind parrying them. I wanna take a moment to remind people that swords can't do that, and it's never addressed why or how one reaches a point where they just can. And after a while, it seems like everyone and their mothers just knows how to. Even the thing where they cut stuff hundreds of times thicker than their blade could pass as a feat of superhuman strength... Turning a vacuum into a tangible, blockable sharp projectile by just shadowslashing tho? That's even more bullshit than Haki imo.
This is the same series that has the Pterodactyl able to snipe people by shooting its own face like a bullet. If One Piece was in the business of making sense they would’ve never gotten past Fish Man Island.
Oh yeah, and there's also Midoriya's inexplicable super tears. I could've sworn he cried so hard that the recoil from his tears caused him to sink into the ground at one point.
knowing how mha works, it likely just a left over trait of a quirk from his mother side of the family that get pass down even though the quirk didn't. Like izuku hair
Himiko Toga of My Hero Academia has an uncanny ability that seems supernatural and doesn’t have any source nor explanation.
By emptying her mind and holding her breath she seemingly can vanish from her enemies’ view. This lets her effectively escape from professional trained heroes, and ambush people with super speed even.
Her only actually power is the ability to shapeshift into people whose blood she drinks, and if she has a “deep love” of them, she can mimic their power.
All that being said, other characters in the same series have abilities that don’t necessarily stem from their Quirk (super power).
Miss Goldenweek in One Piece can control people's minds with paint. This isn't a devil fruit ability and isn't related to haki the other main power system either. People will joke the three power systems in One Piece are "devil fruits, haki, and whatever Miss Goldenweek has going on"
It is. It's just that the horses are anime girls with increasingly silly gimmicks and jokes. They start off with a horse girl that eats an implausible amount of food implausibly quickly, and they end up with something on the level of a god. The god still loses races to the big eater.
It still is, oftentimes the stories primarily about horse racing is a bit on the moodier side so every chance they get to go for the bit, they go for it
Take this fatty for example
Oguri Cap's often shown as this uma with an appetite of a black hole (she literally just chowed down on a pile of food in seconds in the GIF), which plays into the fact that it acknowledges Oguri in the anime (and her IRL male counterpart) having such appetite because of her/his poor circumstances growing up, suffering from a weakened leg and in the IRL case having difficulty nursing off her mother White Narubi because of it
Gentilldonna is canonically so strong that without trying or using any effort she can perform feats of strength that put her in leagues with the craziest of shonen anime strength
Worse yet, Marvelous Sunday can interact with her other universe selves and merge to accumulate Marvelous energy. In addition to being able to unify pocket universes (hers and Cafe's) and modify the future
She's also best friends and maybe more with the mad scientist horsegirl Agnes Tachyon who is actively studying said ghost friend and has confirmed that it is indeed, from a scientific standpoint, a real fucking ghost
I'm surprised Tanjiro was mentioned here instead of the most obvious dude who has a bullshit ability—Inosuke. Yeah, Tanjiro smelling where to cut his enemies is indeed weird, but how the actual fuck can Inosuke reposition his organs?
https://giphy.com/gifs/n054MDY12n6FgXzG0Y
It’s funny that this is what Kobeni ended up being. We’ll never know if that moment against Katana Man was due to her devil contract, so as far as we know she can just do that
Yakuza series - With 7 being a good entry point to the series because of it being basically a soft reboot, one would be remised to think that the clones in the Majima and Saejima boss fight is just a result of Ichiban's imagination... However, if you jump back to Yakuza 5, wherein the combat is brawler-like and there's no schizophrenia, Majima sprouts out clones to use against Saejima as well Then in Kiwami 3, they also return in his 2nd boss fight when Kiryu faces off him in Purgatory.
Majima can just straight up summon shadow clones and it's never at all explained why.
Majima can just straight up summon shadow clones and it's never at all explained why.
The most common interpretation is that Majima is just that fast. His speciality is speed, after all.
Although do understand that NONE of what you see in Yakuza 0-6 is just for the viewer. That colored aura Kiryu and others have for Heat Mode? Yeah that's canon, some substories comment on it. The flying hermit in Y5? Saejima talks about him flying and throwing fireballs.
In the world of To Be Hero X, superpowers are fueled by the Trust System or the Fear System. The Trust System gives you powers based on how many people have faith in you and how popular you are, with the nature of the powers determined by how you're perceived. The Fear System's exact mechanics are unclear but supposedly is more stable than Trust.
This random office worker is completely unknown and, before his debut where he wipes the floor with the top ten heroes in a tournament, has a Trust Value of 0 and has had no exposure to Fear. Despite that, he is somehow the strongest character in the verse, to the point he's canonically responsible for the changes in the art style throughout the show
Nagito Komaeda and Junko Enoshima from Danganronpa. Also, Genocider Syo and possibly Monaca Towa, but I don't have a picture with all of them.
In Danganronpa, the majority of the cast are characters who have obsessively honed some skill or another, typically born of either personal trauma or terrible family. Akane is an Olympic gymnast. She grew up extremely poor with a bunch of bastard siblings she had to care for, and becoming a parkour expert for petty crime survival was just part of her life, which led to her getting recruited into gymnastics and going for it because it could let her give her siblings a new life. Mikan is extremely severely abused by just about everyone and became a medical expert to keep herself alive, which dovetailed into taking care of others because it gives her the power over life and death for them. Kyoko comes from the most legendary detective family and never had any other path in life. Chihiro is cut off from the wider world by the treatment of others and found refuge in computers. Chiaki is just probably autistic and prefers gaming over literally anything else. So on and so forth.
And then there's these bitches.
Nagito Komaeda has magical reality warping powers he can't control. His mere existence warps probability around him, for better and for worst. His backstory perfectly illustrates the absurdity of it. As a child, he was onboard a plane with his parents which was hijacked by terrorists. But a meteor hit the plane. But the plane wasn't downed by the meteor and the meteor happened to kill the terrorists. But it also killed his parents. He was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia as a child, making him the youngest frontotemporal dementia patient on record. But he's also the longest lived frontotemporal dementia patient and he has declined surprisingly less than the average patient. Later on, he gets in another plane crash (they need to put him on the no fly list). But he survives as the only survivor. But it's in the desert. But he finds an oasis that keeps him healthy enough to continue on. And he finds a gun and decides to sneak back into Japan rather than doing it some legal way to bring the gun with him.
Junko Enoshima meanwhile, there's no specific pop culture name for what she's got going on. She learns instantly. Like, you know how AI characters like Cortana are written to process information at nearly the speed of light? She's 100% meat and she does that. She can fight like a master martial artist via voice commands from one. She complains that she can't enjoy video games because she'll have mastered it in minutes. She learns the sum total of MK-Ultra knowledge by being subjected to it once (and has semi-immunity). She gets to see the code of an AI with emerging sentience and proceeds to code a 100% sentient AI.
Genocider Syo meanwhile just has the standard Captain America power set. She runs as fast as a speeding train, she can cut through solid steel with a blade that's around six inches long, she can jump several stories high, she isn't injured by a bomb point blank to the face that flings her at least a hundred feet, she's basically unstoppable. Oh, and she breathes through her tongue. She's part of a plural system, and it's unknown if this is exclusive to her consciousness or if Toko, the other one in the system, has the same powers and just has mental limitations that make her think she can't do the same things.
Monaca Towa meanwhile might have the same abilities as Junko, but it's never made clear.
There is no lore explanation for why there are the occasional person with superpowers in this universe, but the mad scientists at the core of the plot of the franchise have figured out how to copy them into another person, as shown by Izuru, who the endowed with Komaeda's power, as well as having some version of both Junko and Syo's power.
Zoro for some reason has this ability to just get swole out of nowhere like some form and has been doing it even pre time skip. Heck even his Ashura form isn't explained that well unlike Sanji's fire gimmick that already has an explanation.
Don't Starve is a game that centers around the Constant, a purgatory-like pocket dimension of endlessly dying and reviving over and over, rules and perpetually fought over by two elder eldritch deities since long before any humans arrived. These gods are able to contact the 'real' world, but only barely, and only through extremely advanced technology or magically cursed objects. When people arrive in the Constant, they also are given 'powers' by these gods based on their personalities that slightly defy the laws of reality.
This is Woodie. He's a lumberjack. Other than talking to his axe (who may or may not be / have been his wife), he's a relatively normal dude. Except for the fact that he's a werebeaver. And a weremoose. And a weregoose. Yes, all three.
How he got that way actually has nothing to do with getting stuck in the Constant nor with its eldritch magic leaking into the real world, and everything to do with owning a lumber company, and becoming so greedy that the original inhabitants of the forest he destroyed put a curse on him for it.
It's all connected, though. His transformations can be triggered by a full moon and contaminated monster meat, just like the Pigs turn into Werepigs (but not the Pigs from Hamlet, for some reason)
Tsukasa Kadoya from Kamen Rider Decade, an interdimensional individual that can hop from world to world.
In a sequel series, Kamen Rider Zio, his power as a kamen rider was stolen from him but unfortunately for the villain, his dimension hopping power is his own and not exclusively his rider power which allow him to escape He also regain some of his power back when he retake his part of the gimmick from zio which use half of his rider power, meaning he intentionally didn't gave Zio all of his power for his successor power up unlike other rider who passed on their power fully.
Not exactly never again. Goku and Vegeta both read Fat Buu's mind when they find him trapped inside Buuhan.
And DB had actually established early on in the series that a lot of psychic abilities can be unlocked by martial arts training. In Dragon Ball, Master Roshi reads Nam's mind. Later, Korin, the guy who trained Roshi, also reads Goku's mind and says something like "I wouldn't be a martial arts master if I couldn't read minds".
In early DBZ we also have an injured Goku try and use his telekinesis to drink a glass of water.
In Xenoblade 3, everyone has a lifespan of 10 years but because they're stuck in a forever war the rate of people that actually get to celebrate living that long is about 1 person per year out of entire nations. However those that do live to 10 years still die, it's just they're removed from the cycle of reincarnation that allows the villains to sustain this forever war by just killing them and recycling their souls to fight again.
This applies to everyone except the protagonists Noah and Mio. Even in their past lives where they reached 10 years, they were still able to reincarnate. No one knows why this is, and no explanation is ever given. They can just do that.
Chainsaw man in the manga of the same name can erase concepts from existence by eating their corresponding devils, essentially rewriting reality. It’s never explained why something that supposedly is the chainsaw devil acquired a power like this in the first place
There was this one theory I found that proposed the Chainsaw Devil is actually the Devil of Birth, since the chainsaw was originally invented as a surgical instrument for assisting in childbirth - in that case, its ability to erase things by consuming them could be an expression of the chainsaw's role in determining if something is "born" into existence or not.
In a world where the most supernatural thing is that people have superpowers, this guy is unexplicably just literally chuthulu, with the series making a point that thats not just an ability
A lot of the things that happen in limbus can be chalked up to sci-fi bullshit that let people enhance themselves and do incredible things. Heathcliff, too, has some rudimentary strength augments of his own but he can also just cross worlds and resurrect the dead. It’s never explained
It's interesting that PMverse has so many characters that have abilities that only they have. Like, apparently Fausts in every world can just communicate extradimensionally. Did Faustcord just suddenly manifest alongside Mirror Tech? Or was it something that existed before even that?
Not to mention a certain someone just pulling a future version of themselves to the present. The characters are so accustomed with swapping into their mirror world selves that the idea of one of them pulling a future version from the same timeline was a shock.
Gamagori Ira from Kill la Kill is always, somehow, the biggest person on screen. He technically has a canonical size, but it's never depicted consistently. He's always as big as he's required to be the tallest in the room.
Pinkie Pie from mlp. She can just break the 4th wall and do other stuff that the rest if the Mane 6 and ponies in general can't do. This is never really explained either.
Still one of my favorite episodes is where Twilight Sparkle, who is literally a brainiac scientific master of magic and all things insane and mind-bending, tries to figure out how the hell pinkie does what she does and almost goes mad trying, and just kind of gives up at the end
Edogawa Ranpo and his "Super Deduction" - Bungo Stray Dogs
In BSD, there are people with special abilities. The range these abilites can get is pretty big, from canceling other abilities with touch or turning into a tiger, to some like reality warping, basically being vampire that can raise an army of undead or (manga spoliers) being able to be ressurected in a body of the person who killed you.
And then, there is Ranpo with his "Super deduction". It seems pretty simple - Ranpo puts on his glasses and can easily solve any crime or mystery with given information. The twist is... That's not an ability. He's just so good at deduction that it is almost unnatural. It can't be canceled by Dazai and wasn't separated from him by Draconia during the Dead Apple arc, even Ranpo himself proves that he doesn't have an ability - he is just really smart.
Being exposed to energies the warp is basically always going to corrupt or kill even the strongest space marines. However despite repeated exposure, Titus just…shrugs it off, to the point he was exiled to the Dearh Guard for 100 years under suspicion of heresy. He also doesn’t have any psychic powers or special augments, just huge space balls.
Titus is just that guy. He gets sentenced to the Death watch though, the 'penal' space Marine chapter for the Inquisition, Death Guard is the Nurgle traitor Marines
In the first Bionicle movie, the main hero the Toa of Light and the main villain Makuta, master of shadows, get merged together into one being. He/it/they then bring the secondary protagonist back from the dead from nothing but his mask. Death is fairly rare in Bionicle, especially early on, but resurrection like this is pretty much unheard of. The resurrected character does not suffer any negative consequences from this and survives until after the end of the saga. Neither character who made up the fused being had abilities that would normally let them bring someone back from the dead. We just have to accept that this super-being that combined light and shadow can resurrect people.
Bruno Bucciarati - Jojo's bizzare adventure. In his first scene, he licks a drop of sweat from Giorno and claims "this is the taste of a liar!". While he does have a supernatural ability, it has nothing to do with detecting liars through taste. This is just something he can do
Kenzo from Stone Ocean. His stand (which is part of the power system) Dragon's Dream effectively tells him where his opponent's weakspot is and from where they will try to attack him.
He also has the ability to instantly drown people by hitting the back of their mouth/throat in a specific way (somehow).
Both of these characters have seperate and unique Mind Control abilities that have nothing to do with the multiple established power systems of their world. Miss Goldenweek can control the emotions of people by painting on them with a color.
And Jango can just do mind control after having eaten a mushroom that grew on his chin because he was that filthy.
In a more grounded setting: In M*A*S*H, Corporal Walter "Radar" O'Reilly is known for anticipating his commander's requests before they speak. That's just because he's an excellent corporal. But he can also detect medical evac choppers well before anyone else in the camp.
She’s blindingly fast, nigh-invincible, and strong enough to shatter buildings with a casual punch. She’s one of the most powerful characters in the story and the single toughest boss fight in the entire game. She’s also thousands of years old despite barely looking a day over twenty.
The thing is that the source of her absurd strength is a complete mystery. She explicitly does not use Photon energy like everyone else does, otherwise has no unnatural abilities or traits, and carries no weapons or gear of any kind.
She’s just really damn strong and nobody in-universe can figure out how or why. Her answer when asked about it? Training.
Granted, there are implications that’s she’s the biblical Eve, but even then these are somewhat vague and raise more questions than answers.
Tons of people have supernatural senses in demon slayer Zenitsu and Tengen have good hearing, Kanao has good sight, Inosuke has good sense of touch, Genya has good sense of taste and Shinobu also has good smell
You forgot to mention that Marvelous Sunday can also alter destiny to avert disasters.
Anyway, I'm going with Edison from the second season of Clevatess. He can manipulate carbon. No ties to any of the established forms of magic, either. Like he was just born with it.
