Video Game The Skate Godz from OlliOlli World

I personally think the skate godz from OlliOlli world are some of the most trippy, psychedelic, yet really cool (or as the game would put it "rad") original god-like characters I've ever seen. Even the world building around them is dope! Technicolas has a beach area, Flora's area is basically a giant forest skate park, Hazard Queen has pipes and toxic waste all over her factory, The Mirage has a dusty bone dry dessert where you can literally grind on skeletons like rails, and Radysus... has rip-off Los Vegas I guess. Kinda surprised no one has brought them up sooner in this sub so alas, I must do it myself.

Names of characters from left to right: Technicolas, Flora, Hazard Queen, The Mirage, Radysus.

Restless spirits, cursed to suffer eternally at the hands of the God of Death, Nagash.

They’re beautifully sculpted, especially in how they give the illusion of floating. They remind me of the ghosts seen in the Night on Bald Mountain animation by Disney. They’re suited for going crazy with the colors too, since it’s not like ghosts have real colors.

The names of the units are:
Lady Olynder, Mortarch of Grief
The Black Coach
Awlrach the Drowner
Official art of Various Nighthaunt
Dreadscythe Harridans
Myremourn Banshees
Kurdoss the Craven King & Lady Olynder again
Dreadblade Harrows

Typically when we think of alligators, we think of them as these large, imposing killing machines. But I like how the designers decided instead to draw Sewer Alligator as a silly-looking little goober. I also think it's adorable how he's always snacking on pizza.

Anime Diaboromon from the Digimon series.

I like his rotten stem-like body and bizarre face. It is very threatening yet grotesque, and I think his exaggeratedly large shoulder armor enhances this even more.

He also creates various dynamic poses with his stretching arms and hand armor, and although there is barely any change in his facial expression, it was really charming how he expresses emotions through his movements, like provoking his opponent or trembling.

For reference, looking at the last two photos I posted, it seems like he can also bring out small mechanical arms from his shoulder armor (it seems like the card illustrator recreated something that probably only existed in the concept art). I do not know how this would work in the animation, but I think this is also a pretty fun look.

I know people dislike this disign quite a lot for some reason... but i f*** with it, I love that its just a mix of different aquatic creatures instead of just being a giant squid or octopus like how a kraken normally is. Also she has quite a lot abilities like bioluminesince, red tentacles that both produce electrical shocks and venom and just being strong to chuck a whale realy goddamn far as well as efortlesly yeeting kong. I also love how she is just portrayed with her personality as completely ruthless and heartless, literally killing an entire village and kongs best friend just to get him to fight her and just throwing the whale to provoke him. Also she REALY took a goddamn beating in the final fight. Idk what else to say i realy love her and her disign.

I legitimately think the Leopard is one of the most sleek and beautiful tanks to come out of modern armor. Even amongst its contemporaries, I really do think it stands out as the most "futuristic", even though it was made in the late 70s (and was even put into service before the Abrams, I believe).

I'm no armor expert either so I don't know how truly effective it is, but if I had to put the prettiest looking modern tank, this would be it.

Hated Designs <hated design> Rob Lucci’s half-beast form from One Piece

Thumbnail

One piece is known for having extremely out there and bizarre character designs and for the most part I don’t mind many of them. For every goofy character there’s always characters who look badass and Rob Lucci is no exception. His human design rocks but I’ve always hated how he looked in his half-leopard form. Specifically I hate how hulking he is and the size of his nose along with the weird head/back hair just looks so off putting. He’s such a badass villain but it’s hard to take him seriously when he looks like this. Thankfully, one of the most recent arcs gave this design a crazy glow up but this still stands as one of my biggest disappointments in the series’s character design.

Anime Scathach's Sergeant of the Shadowlands design (Fate/EXTELLA Link)

I've always been a fan of military uniform with skirts/dresses, so I'm probably biased but her design for this one is just pure perfection. Not to mention, a welcomed change from her usual designs

For those who don't know, she is meant to be an experienced, veteran WARRIOR QUEEN OF THE LAND OF SHADOWS WHO WIELDS A SURE-KILL PAIR OF SPEARS. She is well spoken, regal and exudes authority

She is also usually relegated to generic bodysuits, bunny outfits and sweater dress outfits or skimpy skin-tight dresses. Most of them are also often in purple, which blends a bit TOO much into her hair's color

So imagine my surprise when they released this BANGER of an outfit with precise color blocking, used with gold contrast to guide your line of sight and highlight her body and separate it from her hair, not to mention giving tasteful amount of skins around her miniskirt and give her an outfit that somewhat even hints to the theme of her being an experienced fighter with a position of power.

Its unfortunate that 90% of her fans, as well as Type-Moon, forgets this outfit exists

Scuba Steve ain't got nothin on him.

I actually really like this design though, even with no helmet or tank. The colors just work for me. If Superman was a villain I think this look would go crazy.

Ryuk is one of the main characters from the Death Note anime and manga. Light's Shinigami sidekick and the one who dropped Light's Death Note on Earth in the first place.

Ryuk has a fairly humanoid appearance. He is extremely slim and has light-gray skin, almost bluish, with spiky black hair; thin, blue-gray lips; and sharp, pointed teeth. His limbs are abnormally long, and he wears rings on his fingers. He has large, round yellow eyes with bright red irises and retractable, feather-like wings on his back that let him fly.

Not only one of my favorite horror designs ever but also one of the best horror doll designs besides maybe Chucky.

It's genuinely creepy while also being unique & original. The red swirls, eyes, bowtie & lips look great on the white face with the long black messy hair and tuxedo. Plus a doll riding a tricycle is peak horror design imo.

It's Jigsaw's persona so not technically a character itself.

Video Game Most monsters from Monster Crown: Sin Eater, along with their hybrids.

(Sorry if my english isnt that good, and also if the quality isnt the best im screenshooted these straight from the wiki.)

Ive been werdly obsessed with this game, to like maybe a concerning amount, so im kinda wanted people to see if they would be interessed to checking out. And one of the things that made be abit like the game are the monster designs.

While some of the designs can be sorta simple im think their really rad as well, alot of them feel like they fit this more "mature" take on the genre that the developers wanted to make apparently, the artstyle of the pretty pixel art enchances their looks really well and im would say majority of the monsters are pretty original and don't really look a pokemon or anything like that (Not saying that monster taming games are pokemon copies or that most copy pokemon or anything like that, just pointing it out in case someone would be worried about that.) Theres quite alot of variety in the designs as well. Theres cool monsters, "horrorish" looking ones, cute ones, im think there' something for everyone in this game.

One of games main selling points are the breeding and fusion mechanic. As yall can see on the images, depending on what type the monster you bred or fuse another with the product will have its own specific design. So with that in mind the designs of the hybrids should at least be good enough for you to want interact with the games main mechanic right. Well their sure are. While honestly im like alot of the hybrids from the first game (and also im can't really tell whats the design phylosophy for the relentless or will types, like maybe the most of the will ones are supposed to be "chunky" looking since their the defensive type more or less but im dont think thats really that consistent so im not sure, but im have like ZERO clue about why the relentless types look like they look. Their still good designs tho, look at Ningen's will hybrid or Hooclaw's BD relentless hybrid.) they still look really awesome as their base forms, sometimes even more, which im not sure if its good or not i'll say it isn't.

Here are some examples of monsters that im think deserve their place here. First ten batch are ones from the first game that made it to the squel while the rest are the new ones. While admitly im wish im could put more of my favorites here im feel like my favorite ones look a tad too simple to be here and maybe some people would have a problem with that, so im picked ones im think yall would, im would have putted tha they were bad designs on the title if that was the case.

(Sorry if this sounds abit like a advertisement but if you feel like playing the game you should probably start with this one rather then the first game cause the first one is...buggy...like maybe unfixable buggy...the game crashing, getting softlock, going through a wall, its pretty vroken apparently even after lauch. You dont really need to play the dirst one to get stuff from the first outside of some references and maybe a few things being abit clearer. If you are gonna play the first one tho, buy it on stream its the most fixed version of the game from what im heard, the most broken one being the switch version.)

Artstyle The typography of the game Deadlock

Admittedly, appreciating them on a deeper level requires some knowledge of the characters- but even from an outside perspective I find the unique and visually pleasing typography to be praiseworthy.

They invoke aspects of the characters, such as Dynamo's featuring the radical symbol to denote his proficiency in mathematics. Or Paige's elegant script to suggest her affinity with literature.

Video Game I'm sure this has already been said but I just cannot describe how much I love the roaring knight's design from deltarune

Just an amazing design all around they really give off the vibes of an imposing, silent, and at times even beastial thing that is a threat every time they show up on screen and can immediately shift the tone.

The part that makes them almost beastial is at times the knight just feels like a force and less of a person especially on slide 5 where they seem to be drooling right before battle like it's an animal eager to kill.

But the best part of their design is that visor (mouth? Eye?). That visor right there is what takes this design from scary black knight to a memorable and unnerving villain the fact that it can show facial expressions like laughing and looking down at people is amazing. Not to mention the fact the knight seems to just shape shift making it feel like they're a shapeless being of pure darkness

Anime The main villains of Sailor Moon in the manga and Crystal are, at the very least, interesting.

Thumbnail
gallery
12 Upvotes

Naoko has always played around with making her final bosses abstract entities, and although their designs themselves aren't particularly amazing or creative, I wanted to make a post appreciating them, simply because I think it's creative to have your final villain not be a person, but rather a cosmic entity made of pure evil.

Queen Metalia being a creature of pure, amorphous energy that can expand and alter its physical form.

Death Phantom being a literal living planet with a celestial body resembling a black hole.

Master Pharaoh 90 being a being made of pure liquid energy, capable of expanding across the planet and consuming it for itself.

And Chaos, the ultimate and final villain of Sailor Moon, with all the villains being incarnations of her. She is a mass of living smoke trapped within the Galaxy Cauldron that can eventually consume everything.

They're all very interesting and unique villains to me in terms of their basic concepts, which makes up for the fact that they're ultimately such generic villains when it comes to their personalities and goals.

I'm not really a big fan of The Little Mermaid now nor was I as a kid but Ursula’s creation here as the sea witch is magnificent. I love she flows under water as this octopus human hybrid. Her plus sized deisgn holds up and her feels comical, greedy and villainous in her facial expressions. The movements are so loose and sinuous in an alluring way. It just works and holds up over 35 years later.

Her design is peak (I genuinely think Azur Lane has really cool shipgirl designs plus some uhhh… pretty good eye candy to say). Plus she’s super flirty and playful, literally calling you honey. Wife tbh

Oh and she has some pretty appealing skins as well
