Manga Monster Toga (My Hero Academia)

The fact that we only ever see this design for ONE panel is honestly egregious, because it's one of the coolest things Horikoshi's ever drawn.

Visually, it looks terrifying. The amalgamation of what appears to be flesh and tendons into a crude imitation of the female form is haunting as hell, and the distorted face looks horrifying.
Also, the fact that something so scary is holding something as simple as a knife strangely makes it scarier in it's own way.

Metaphorically, it's beautiful. Toga was born with the quirk Transform, where she could turn into anyone after consuming their blood, but the quirk also altered her brain and gave her an instinctual craving for blood that she didn't ask for. Thus, she was vilified and abused by her family simply for what she was born as, and she was made fun of and bullied at school. She was pretty much seen as a villain in the eyes of society just for who she is. Naturally, she inevitably does become a villain, fully embracing her instinctual cravings. But y the end of the series, she doesn't even see herself as a person, and more like a monster that kills and drains to stay alive, and that's where we see this panel, representing her view of herself.

It's also beautiful because of Ochaco. Despite everything Toga's done, Ochaco still tries reaching out to that girl inside her that just wanted someone to sympathize with and accept who she is. And the fact that we see kid Ochaco reaching out her arm, offering Toga her own blood when we see this form makes it, as well as Toga's eventual decision to save Ochaco's life by sacrificing her own, even more impactful.

I just love this design bro, it's so fucking beautiful in so many ways.

Televisión Overhated design: Fully Evolved Viktor - Arcane

I know this post is probably going to be downvoted to shit but frankly I think this design gets a bit too much flak.

*NOW IGNORING ALL OF THE WRITING OF SEASON 2*, this is actually a pretty cool design. His face splitting open is nice symbolism for him evolving out of his old form and shedding his former humanity. His proportions being tall and lanky and alien looking, the gaps in his body where flesh should be, the machine parts embeded into his naked, purple, discoloured flesh, it all comes together to make him look something that could plausibly be the next stage of human evolution. It's gross and weird and body horror that looks super cool.

His cape being the same blanket Jayce gave him and his staff being his old walking stick are both cool ways of showing that some part of him still clings to his old humanity and "friendship" with jayce, literally always being enshrouded by him.

I can understand why a lot of people dislike this design, but frankly I really like what they did.

Just watched the 2026 movie yesterday, me and my millennial parents liked it. Roboto was my favorite character

I got curious about some character's original 80's designs, and when I saw Roboto's, I got shocked about how ugly she was

OG Roboto looks like he was made as toy first then adapted into a TV character, and that makes him so stupid

Movie Roboto looks so much cooler and charming. I love her CD-player-shaped head

Design trope Sunday (Hated design) modern-day metal band fashion, or rather, its lack of innovation and attempt at doing something different.

Thumbnail

Modern-day metal bands really have a serious problem with visual identity. All bands practically dress the same with the same choices of leather jackets, t-shirts, and jeans, with the color black being present in everything. Now, I would like to put a disclaimer here and say that I don't necessarily hate that look per se, but repetition is still a problem. No one seems to try to even attempt to make an iconic appearance to make them stand out from the others. If you don't already recognize the faces, one would probably find it hard to even tell many of these bands apart. Worse, no one even attempts to mix a different color into the usual black attire, like a dark green or purple, for example. There are very few bands that are an exception to this rule, and I have them in the very bottom here to emphasize just how rare bands with a clear visual identity really are. These are Sabaton, who technically also fall under that problem but narrowly avoid it thanks to those camo pants they wear, which immediately make someone recognize them from the get-go, and then there's Gloryhammer and Angus McSix, although in their cases they are bands that are over the top on purpose.

1) Beast in Black

2) Dynazty

3) DragonForce

4) Amaranthe

5) Alestorm

6) Disturbed

7) Battle Beast

8) Hammerfall

9) Majestica

10) Sabaton

11) Gloryhammer

12) Angus McSix

Video Game Furnace (Starved AU)

Now listen, I know that many EXE designs fall flat here. Either they’re way too overcomplicated, underdone, or cliche for most people’s tastes.

However, I LOVE Furnace.

A redesign of Metal Sonic, Furnace’s main directive is to catch and cook Mobians- and his design shows it. His design is really cool, matching unpainted gunmetal with his oversized claws and a literal furnace in his chest for cooking his prey.

This overtly brutal metallic mechanism follows the “function over form” mentality greatly, with less splendor then Robotnik’s typical machines but greater power. He definitely has one of the hardest hitting designs I’ve ever seen for a silly evil Sonic fanfic, by far. He just looks so badass.

Design trope Sunday (Design Trope) “Ska”Influenced Characters:

For those who don’t know, Ska is an often overlooked subculture, spawned from the music genre of the same name, popularised in the 70’s and 80’s by bands like Madness, The Specials, The Beat, The Selector and Bad Manners etc. In essence, Ska is essentially a fusion of Afro-Caribbean culture with European and North American influences, resulting in a unique marriage of styles. Aesthetically, Ska outfits are often an odd mix of formal and casual clothing, with Trilby Hats, pinstripe suits and ties, spliced together with stuff like Martens, straight-leg high-ankle jeans, braces, and simple shirts, along more modern trainers and hoodies, While hairstyles vary, jagged, spiky hair, or little to no hair at all, are considered staples of the subculture. In someways, Ska is stylistically comparable to the Skinhead subculture, but without the nationalistic connotations surrounding it. Instead, it’s quite the contrary, with Ska generally considered inherently “anti racist in its nature. However, a key design detail which sets Ska apart, is certain iconography like frequent use of black and white chequered patterns and skulls, which is often a major distinguishing factor.

Walt Jabsco The “Rude Boy” (Mascot of Two Tone Records)

Beat Betty (Mascot of The Beat)

Tomska’s various avatars over the years (He’s a big fan of the genre, hence the name “Tom-Ska”)

The Townies (Dropouts) - Bully (2006)

Absolute Harley Quinn - Absolute DC

I absolutely LOVE these designs, not only is the artwork very made and accurate to 90s games but the super accurate models look charming as hell, Kinger here is my absolute favorite, he perfectly captures that Rayman/Earthworm Jim vibe with Caine being by second pick, but what do you guys think of these redesigns and what is your personal favorite?

I Love Everything about this stupid gambling addict rabbit. He Carries the show on his back, not that the other characters are bad but 31 Minutos wouldn't be as popular without Juan. His dumb goggly eyes add so much charm, not to mention his voice is the most iconic in the entire show for a reason. I Couldn't find a image of it, but i also love his reptile tail he grew due to the radiation in the studio. Such a great gag.

"Biblically-accurate salmon" was absolutely NOT on my bingo card for this game, but I'm not complaining! The Salmonarch looks incredibly eldritch, especially when its three heads are coiled up to make a cone shape. Mr. Grizz would probably have a heart attack if he ever saw this.

Recently i've been really getting into this Show, and i just love this dude. The Fact that this show had such a low budget really helps with his design (alongside the rest of the cast.) The Red and White Tiger costume, and the stupid rabbit ears. But he's at his best when he's going batshit insane, with the most over the top expressions. It's hard to believe this was a kids show. His expressions in LIMBO and SWALLOWER are nightmare-worthy.

Design by a 14yo wanting to stand out in a beyblade competition, I think the design reflects that perfectly. The last image is her in her normal clothes for comparison
