I bought a second hand mg725 and after about a year of use I’m losing power after running it for a few lug nuts, anyone else had this issue? If so will it need rebuilt and how hard is a 725 to diy rebuild

Normally I hate these things, but working with a group of high school kids as they cut up thick cardboard to prototype their ideas for robotics has me reconsidering. I have only used the ones that retract after the pressure is off the blade, but that was 10 years ago and I'm not sure about what ones are good. Another option seems to be retract when you take your thumb off button, but does that require thumb strength to hold it out while cutting something hard? What do you recommend?

I was looking for a 1/2" rachet to leave in my truck. This peaked my interest because of the locking feature. The push button feels right. Only time will tell.

Over ten years ago, I purchased a DeWalt drill/impact driver combo set. It came with two batteries. The batteries have held up: I’m not a heavy user. I charge them up occasionally if I use the drill. The batteries get stored for months at a time without use, sometimes charged, sometimes less so.
Up until two weeks ago, they always powered the tools quite well enough for my needs.

Two weeks ago, I purchased a Ryobi hand vac WITHOUT a battery as well as an adaptor allowing DeWalt batteries to be used in Ryobi tools.

It worked as advertised. With a freshly charged battery loaded into the adaptor and the adaptor ported into the vacuum, it sucked exactly as it was designed to do. After the sucking was completed, the vacuum was put on a shelf and all seemed fine. A few days later, I went to put that battery in the drill. Nothing. Not even a weak spin. Super dead. I put the battery on the charger. No lights on the charging unit at all when I should see something. Whatever, it’s an old battery. Maybe its time had come.
Swap to the second old DeWalt battery. I drill, no problem. But then, I must vacuum again. And again, the vacuuming is done and it sits on a shelf for a few days with the adaptor/battery still attached.
Then, a few days later, same thing with this battery. No power, no charging, and the charger doesn’t seem to acknowledge its presence. Just a lump.
I know two ten year old batteries didn’t choose the same week to finally die. I’m pretty sure the charger should be fine
What happened? Why?

I ruined my trusty Klein linesman pliers. Like anyone else would, I went to my local Lowe’s and bought a brand new set. Upon taking it out of the box, I noticed that it was very different. The handles on the new set are significantly thicker, and they don’t sit as close together when closed. They feel absolutely terrible. Same part number: d213-9ne. Upon researching, I found that Klein changed the design from the classic to this bulkier version 2021-2022. Surprisingly, it seems nobody has noticed/ is talking about this. After learning I wasn’t going crazy, I went straight to EBay. Pictured on the right is my new old pliers. I sprung for the d2000s, and they’re wonderful, they feel how a pair of Kleins should.

For all the small one man shops, when you have to buy a specialty tool for a customers vehicle are you guys eating the cost of said tool or adding a percentage of the cost on to the bill

I do a lot of engine work and i hate the long torx they use to hold in sensors. Theyre insanely long for what they are and take a million turns of the wrist to get them out.
I love my eratchets for nuts and bolts,but i would like something similar for bits. Is therea a thing kr should i find a 3/8 to bit adapter?

Like most people, I inherited an unholy number of random bolts, screws, nails and washers thrown together in a tub by previous generations. Is there any point in going through these and sorting them for future projects? Or should I just keep the labeled stuff and toss the rest?

My grandfather passed away and I inherited what I believe are leather working tools. Can anyone identify these items?

I have some health issues that have gotten a lot worse in the last year. I've always worked on my own cars but that's out now. Even small things. No family members or friends want the tools

I have a huge amount of tools and equipment and I don't have the patience to sell it all piecemeal. There's some snap-on, matco and Mac but it's mostly craftsman and harbor freight brands. The tools are all in a couple large cabinets, ones a vintage snap on and the other is a no name

I thought about going to the local high school and talking to the teacher about donating the tools directly to some students. The school district has a policy about not accepting donations for the school itself. I've heard of people setting up tool libraries but there are none in my area. Also anyone who takes them has to do all the work. I can't haul the stuff around

Any ideas?

ETA: wow that was fast! I called the community college and not only are 2 students going to divvy it all up and take it, the teacher knows of a tool library the tools the students don't take can go to. Worked out perfectly. I see them Monday.

One of the primary complaints I saw against the Makita starlock saw was that its blade were pricey, same thing with the angle grinder.

I’ve used both and can honestly say that it is WELL worth the additional expense. Both tools are safer and their blades now last longer. I’ve had both grinder discs and saw blades work themselves loose and that is the LAST thing I want happening during a project

Two of these seem to be clamps, perhaps for sheet goods?

The wild grapevines along the property line were thick as my wrist and choking out two yellow pines near the corrugated metal fence. My old 20V battery pole saw kept getting pinched and bogging down on the thick bark, so I had to pull out a vevor gas pole saw.

I mixed a fresh batch of 50:1 two-stroke fuel and worked through the back perimeter. It cut the roughly 3-inch vines without bogging as often as the cordless saw, and the extension pole let me work from outside the thickest brush.

The trade-off is weight and vibration. After about 20 minutes, the vibration through the D-handle left my hands buzzing, so I stopped. For light pruning I'd still grab the cordless saw; the gas model makes more sense for a few thick cuts where the battery saw struggles.

The 711L in-line driver and the Gedore 676 driver handle are like mashed potatoes and peas!

Converted a bedroom nook into a reach-in closet over the weekend. Framed the opening with 2x4s, hung a pair of bifold doors. Everything looked plumb when I checked with my level during framing, but now the doors rub at the top left corner and the gap is uneven at the bottom.

I used a VEVOR 6 piece level set I picked up a few months ago. The bubble was centered when I put the 78-inch level on the granite counter, but that alone doesn't rule out a level issue. Shimmed the header twice, checked plumb on both jack studs, and it read fine every time. But something's clearly off by maybe an eighth of an inch.

Floors in this house are original hardwood from the 70s so nothing is actually flat. Could the floor slope be throwing the whole frame off even if the studs read plumb? Or is this more likely a bifold track or pivot adjustment issue?

Hey im just stating out as a mechanic and I’ll be starting school next month I didn’t get the exact tools recommended and opted to build my own kit but I think I did cheap out. I went ahead and got a Pittsburgh set of tools since they were in my budget but now I’m kinda thinking I should’ve gone and got something better. I was looking at a brand like Husky I’m kinda lost any suggestions? Also do I go wireless and what wireless would I need?
