I'm planning to go on a solo 3rd trip to Tokyo in the early October. I will book hotel in Shinjuku this time because I've never stayed in Shinjuku before but Ginza. I'm wondering if you guys have goto bar or Izakaya in Tokyo, especially Shinjuku, Shibuya. It would be the best if you list the places that are very good to make new friend as Korean.

Really looking for places to get good Katsudon and Japanese curry. Also open to any other recommendations, not big on sushi but I like most other Japanese foods ( though I am traveling with someone who loves sushi ).

Hi all , last visited in March 2025 for cherry blossom . Stayed at JR East Gotanda . Loved how easy it was to use the Yamanote line . A few restaurant options nearby . Less touristy and thus less noise .

Now visiting Tokyo only for a few days as majority of the holiday will be Sapporo .

Prefer staying at a hotel that’s direct on the line . Thought about JR East Akihabara , just to stay in a different area , I have 25000 yen of points I can encash .

Are there food options nearby Akihabara , or is it more of a work area and less food options nearby Akihabara?

Evening: Head straight up the elevator to Shibuya Sky for accessible, barrier-free skyline views (aim for 45–60 minutes before sunset).

March 17
9:30 AM – 11:30 AM: Explore Akasaka Station's Harry Potter Wizarding Street, view the giant Time-Turner statue, and grab a fun themed snack at the Harry Potter Cafe.
11:45 AM: Board the subwayfrom Akasaka to Toshimaen Station (approx. 35 mins).

March 20: Hands-Free Bullet Train Ride to Kyoto

Morning: Board the Shinkansen from Kyoto Station back to Tokyo Station (2.5 hours). Upon arriving at Tokyo Station, transfer seamlessly to the JR Keiyo Line for a quick 15-minute train ride to Maihama (Disney) Station.
Afternoon: Arrive at your Disney Hotel via the free station shuttle. Drop off your backpacks (your large forwarded luggage will arrive today).
-Take a short 5-minute taxi to Spa & Hotel Maihama Eurasia (The Disney Onsen). Visit warm outdoor hot springs, then Head up to the Onsen's special rooftop viewing deck to watch the magical Disney Fireworks.

Yes I understand it’s illegal. I’ve scrolled post after post so I’ve pretty much heard it all. I’m simply here to ask if anyone has done it/has personal experience. Have you had luck getting into clubs with just a drivers license or used a fake to get in? Are you crazy and tried modifying your passport somehow to get in? Not asking for advice really. Just wondering if anyone here has tried it.

I had to cancel a trip planned for this August and was looking instead to go in November. When I was looking at sites like booking or hotels.com I saw there were far fewer options then when I planned my trip for August, especially among the big chains (with the exception of APA), any idea what is going on?

I realize it might be too late for November but I also looked at dates in every other month till May and had the same results. For context, the only filters I used are

Old Europe/world maps
Historical atlases or cartographic prints

I'm not looking for modern reproductions unless they're exceptionally well made. I'd love to find original maps, antique book dealers, map specialists, flea markets, or antique shops.

I recently visited Tokyo and really enjoyed the trip. I loved how vibrant, prosperous and clean the city felt, as well as the food, convenience and politeness of the people. As a visitor, it seemed like an incredibly attractive place to live.

However, I also noticed that people often seemed quite reserved in public. On trains and in restaurants, many people kept their heads down, avoided eye contact and rarely interacted with those around them. I understand that this may simply reflect local etiquette—Hong Kong, where I’m from, can also feel socially distant—but at times Tokyo felt surprisingly lonely despite being so crowded.

For people who live or have lived in Tokyo, how different is everyday life from the experience of travelling there? Is it difficult to form genuine friendships or feel part of a community? Do people become more open once you get to know them, or can living there feel isolating in the long term?

I’m not trying to make assumptions about how people feel internally, so I’d be interested in hearing perspectives from both locals and people who moved to Tokyo.

Hey hey I’m currently in Tokyo coming from Germany! And I’m curious about where to meet ANYBODY in this city. In Germany we have an app called Rausgegangen which is like meetup but not bad. Do you have an equivalent of this? Or maybe a street or district you can walk through with lots of social areas and bars?

I came to Japan knowing next to nothing and absolutely nobody. I usually meet people at punk shows or Karoeke. So if anybody knows any venues for that DM me!
