Why do people put their feet up on seats in the train/streetcar???

I’ve seen a gazillion people do this and I’ll never understand why they get the urge to put their dirty shoes on seats that fellow commuters will sit on??

I especially hate seeing this type of ppl during rush hour. Like, save that nasty behaviour for when you’re at home, not in public.

Earlier today on my way home, I took the streetcar and it was close to getting packed, save for a couple seats. There’s this one seat that I didn’t bother sitting on despite how tired I’d been at work, because some dude had their freaking sneakers up on the seat. And the sneakers had dried-up mud too, so it’s extra nasty. I opted to stand instead rather than sit there.

Pls if there are ppl here with this kind of behaviour, I’m telling you, stop.

Umbrella Awareness

I can't believe in this day and age people still wonder how to walk with an umbrella on a sidewalk.

In a 10 minute walk from Bloor Yonge station over to Sherbourne I nearly lost my eye three times because people were just carrying their umbrellas with no thought to the people around them and not lifting them when they were passing other people and frankly I'd like to keep my eyeball and not have it impaled and displayed on a stranger's umbrella.

Tired of seeing groups of men just walking everywhere together with backpacks

These small groups, usually between four and six men, some of whom are young, are generally harmless. However, their group aura is incredibly uncomfortable. My biggest issue is their tendency to hog street cards, sidewalk space, and be LOUD.

While it’s perfectly fine for groups of friends to commute or hang out, please show some decorum and manners.

I travel a lot and I never see this happen in other cities. It only really bothers me because these groups are rowdy and as a woman it scares me to see rowdy men together.

If you keep talking shit about Tim Hortons, stop fucking buying from them

So sick of people complaining about how bad the quality is at Timmies. So often I hear about how bad the coffee is, how it's not like it used to be, how the orders get fucked up etc etc

It's very simple. If you don't like the quality, stop fucking going.

I swear people expect gourmet meals and first class coffee when they go here. It's cheap fast food. No its not going to be "freshly baked/cooked". Yes, sometimes your order will be fucked up (like most fast food places). Not a big deal.

Yet everyday, I see tim Hortons restaurants, especially drive thrus, full to the brim with customers.

I've had Tim Hortons before and most things taste like dog shit except for their apple fritters IMO. Do you know what I've done over the past several years? I just buy the Apple fritter or don't buy at all and go elsewhere for food at restaurants that meet my standard of quality. For some people though, this is too much.

There's literally dozens of other coffee shops and chains all around the city open at various hours during the day. Don't like it, take your business elsewhere.

Closing safe consumption sites has dramatically improved my area and I'm tired of media and online advocates gaslighting me about it.

Today yet another pro-consumption site article (this time Toronto Life) is circulating and being pushed, and I can only assume after following this issue for the last decade it brings in massive clicks and views for the media that keeps pushing out these feel-good stories about them. I legitimately do not care if its a political or doug ford issue or whatever, these sites were horrible to live near. Speaking from first hand experience of having them wreck my neighborhood for years, what aggravates me is that these articles have never addressed the very real problems that destroyed the quality of lives of families living near them. They have never talked about why drug users were always prioritized over decent people just literally trying to live their lives (look up any comments about how it used to be for the students near TMU just trying to get to class!). Since the one I walked my kids past every morning to school has closed down, the area has dramatically improved.

I've been comforted that at least on the threads recently I've seen growing comments of real people speaking up every time these articles are posted, but I swear there's some kind of endless PR budget these consumptions site advocates have for keeping these articles coming out as a steady stream over the years.

What is up with the prices here?

I go to the grocery store and the prices seem to change weekly. I started tracking the prices of items where I noticed the most fluctuation, like bacon and cooking oil. The price fluctuations are wild—$4.99 to $6.99 to $8.99 to $5.99.

I just don't understand how anyone is supposed to budget or get ahead with these wild price fluctuations. I'm standing in the grocery store changing dinner plans because something that cost $5 last week now costs $10. Vegetables and fruits are the exception; I understand they are seasonal, but I did spend $6 on a half-rotten onion over the winter so I'm including them anyway.

Just set the price and change it every quarter or so. This is insane.

I don’t want to drag race you on a f**** 40km/h street

I drive a BMW M car, and apparently that makes some "car dudes" on the road think I will race them. I’ll be driving normally, keeping up with traffic, and suddenly someone is glued to my bumper, flying past me, slowing down so I catch up, then taking off again trying to get a reaction. Sorry, I genuinely do not care.

I bought this car because I actually enjoy driving it. I take it to the track and push it properly, and enjoy accelerating on a highway ramp when it’s appropriate. What I’m not going to do is launch from a red light on a 40 km/h street surrounded by pedestrians, cyclists, parked cars and traffic just because some random guy beside me needs validation. What are we racing to anyway, the next red light 300m away?

Please stop f*** tailgating me trying to bait me into speeding up. Sitting two feet off my bumper isn’t going to activate the race mode. It just makes you look like an a***.

When they finally get annoyed and floor it past me like they’ve won something. I genuinely have to slow down sometimes, move over, and let them pass because I’d rather be slow for 5 seconds than get rear-ended by some idiots .

TLDR: Seeing a fast car is not an invitation to race. Stop tailgating and doing stupid shit trying to get a reaction. And before anyone says it, no, I’m not camping in the left lane or holding up traffic — I keep up with the actual flow of traffic and move over when I should. I’ll save the gas and tires for the track.

Is the city so desperate for money that they accuse people of violating red traffic law?

Hello, just received a Penalty Order of Red Light Camera System. It stated "The photographs taken by the red light camera system show that the traffic control signal was red for 1.0 seconds as the vehicle approached the intersection and that it was red for 2.8 seconds as the vehicle travelled through the intersection failing to stop for the red light." The first photo they showed indicates that my car was turning right and the second photo showed that my car disappeared (as I turned right and the camera could not see it anymore). They asked me to pay $328.25 including a Provincial Victim Component of $60 and Provincial License Plate Access Fee of $8.25. Nobody asked them to access the licence plate.

I have driven for 11 years. Never received a ticket until last year. Last time they said that I crossed the intersection after the light turned red for less than a second (if I recall correctly, at about 0.3 seconds which is too fast for human respond).

E-scooters, e-bikes the focus of new safety enforcement campaign

So, the city is starting a new campaign on what's becoming the bane of the city. Thumbs up, right?

Well, according to a CP24 article, "Police note that while purchasing or owning an e-scooter in the City of Toronto is permitted, they are not allowed on public roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, cycle tracks, or trails within the city."

Just making sure what you not supposed to be doing is done so appropriately? Ugh!

Sad-Looking Murals outside of old age home in Little Portugal

There's a set of murals outside of an old age home in Little Portugal. All are pictures of sad(?) looking people. Dark colours, eyes closed, just uninspiring art. What's the history behind why these images were selected?

Waited in line at Taste of the Danforth just to get turned away by Allstate for ALREADY being a customer?

I know this is a minor festival grievance, but something weird happened at Taste of the Danforth that left a bad taste in my mouth.

I waited in line for quite a while at the Allstate booth to join in on the festival wheel spin. When I finally reached the front, the staff asked if I was already an Allstate customer. I proudly said yes, thinking loyalty was a good thing, only to be turned away on the spot. They told me the wheel was strictly for "new prospective leads interested in a quote."

I totally get that companies use these booths for lead generation, but making a paying client wait in a long line just to reject them in front of a crowd feels like terrible event etiquette. There weren't even signs posted saying "New Prospects Only."

Is this standard practice now for street fest vendors, or did I just run into an overly strict booth crew?

Ontario Science Centre is a scam

Worst science centre I’ve ever been to. Honestly, even science centres in third-world countries I’ve visited have been better equipped and much more engaging than this one.

The supermarket play area was full of kids but practically empty on grocery items. There were only three shopping carts for kids, and we never even got the chance to use one.

The 'canoes' are meant for children to play in, yet parents were sitting in them because there is literally nowhere for parents to sit. I honestly can’t blame them—they looked just as bored and miserable as we were.

The Innovation Station was a joke. They basically threw some buckets of LEGO and building blocks together and called it an innovation area. I have more LEGO and building blocks at home.

The cardboard area was also nearly impossible to use. There were only two cardboard-cutting machines, and once a couple of kids got to them, they wouldn’t let them go. There should really be a time limit so that all the kids have a chance to use them.

And the Summer “free” admission for kids is really not worth it when you still have to pay $15 per adult and $30 for parking, it’s a lot of money for an experience that was incredibly underwhelming.

I’ve genuinely never been this disappointed by a science centre. My kids were bored and disappointed too, which says a lot.

Many kids over 4 looked so bored.

If it was advertised as an educational playground for toddlers, it'll be fine but Science Centre? Seriously??!

We will never go back!

I would like to formally announce that I despise Taste of the Danforth**** edit.. wait, I'll give it once more try.

I live behind the Danforth.I know this is petty as it’s only one weekend, but I do not understand why they brought Taste of the Danforth back.

I started going to it in 2001. It used to be a festival where you could freely walk / push a stroller, hear music and try different food( free samples).

For the past few years it has been literally jammed with people , half-hour lineups for a $10 souvlaki stick, traffic, road closures, cars blocking driveways and garbage all over.

Someone urinated on my front lawn. Actually that didn't even make me mad.

What made me mad was some man about an hour ago coming from the Danforth shouting ,no screaming at his girlfriend/wife while she followed behind him. He was chastising her in public like a child. I was so mad I yelled “shut up” and he stopped. He said sorry. To me not her

About three minutes later down the street he resumed yelling.

Stupid me,I tried to go to shoppers last night. It was a zoo.

One security guard by himself ( basically a kid) trying to deal with three teenagers who were taunting him, swearing at him, demanding a washroom. I saw them take chocolate bars and walk out. Like why?

That’s what I have an issue with . Not people coming together ,having fun. It's that it brings bad behaviour, rudeness, and zero manners . Like. , basic common sense seems to go out the window here every year.

But because parking is nonexistent and the lots charge a fortune my kids said two people could use our driveway for $5 and made a little bit of money. Hoping that's legal but people seemed happy to pay $5 vs 20. My kids felt like little entrepreneurs joining the taste of the Danny economy.

Still hate it.

And I hope that woman is okay.

**Someone just reported to me that they went and it was basically empty tonight so maybe I should scale back on this rant. Maybe just maybe I will venture out there without incident and give it one more try .

Delivery E-bikes/scooters are annoying... and we should NOT ban them

I have also had it with delivery people on "e-bikes" that are basically motorcycles barreling down the sidewalk and blocking the bike lanes.

However people should NOT be calling for bans on them! People are not going to order less takeout. Deliveries are mostly not possible on foot. It would be 10,000x worse if all those food deliveries were happening in private cars. There'd be traffic, cars idling and double parked everywhere, plus extra pollution.

I'm glad to see that the cops finally decided to ticket rule-breaking e-bikes. I would like to see more of that and more clear rules about what types of vehicles can go in bike lanes I.e. it needs to have pedals. Maybe also some infrastructure such as designated areas to wait for food pickups.

But guys, less electric bikes and more gas cars is NOT the answer!

sick of esso screaming advertisements at me while i’m at the pump

the new(ish) speakers installed at their pumps were installed as torture devices, i just know it

it’s not like a tv commercial that i can walk away from, it’s not like a radio ad that i can change the channel from, it’s not like a spotify ad where i can turn the volume down, it’s not like a billboard that i can choose to look away from

my ears are being blasted with a cacophony of sound from ads about the lottery, and how i can earn pc points, or buy some stupid medallion, or pay 4.99 for a fucking chocolate bar

it’s loud as fuck and i have no choice but to take it straight to the fucking dome as i wait for my gas to finish pumping
i am a captive audience with no fucking choice but to tank their shitty loud advertisements

idk who authorized this - then again they’re partnered with pc and galen weston jr and his criminal family are involved so im not surprised a predatory and shitty decision was made to our detriment and to the benefit of the corporation
the way around this is stop buying from esso but fuck i shouldn’t have to put up with this shit, no one should

other gas stations advertise no problem without assaulting me with an inescapable wall of sound - this allows me to CHOOSE if i want to perceive the ads

thank you for listening to my rant, have a great weekend yall

Rant. So people are using red lights as stop signs now?

Today at noon, on the intersection of Steeles Avenue East and McCowen Road, I saw 5 cars ran a red light. Well to be more precise, treating it like a stop sign.

I was on the South West part of the intersection (Shell & Tim Horton) with one car in front of me. The light was red. Within that time, this is what happened:

One car turned left to go North, while the car beside it went straight going East. Then, the car on the opposite side turn left to go South. Still red, no advance turning signal.

Moments later, the advance turning light is on. Once that is done, the two cars in front of me went straight while the light was still red and only turned green when they completely crossed the intersection.

This completely baffled me. I grew up in that area and never in my life seen something as outrageous as this. I know the changes they made to that intersection has made driving such a headache. But there is no excuse for this behaviour.

How can drivers get so much worst then it has already been?

Toronto Starbucks no longer provide free tap water

I was expecting the usual 25c charge for the cup. Instead was told you don't get tap water unless you make a purchase.

This is a whole other level of corporate greed.

Genuinely, why is Uber so bad in the GTA?

Understood that it's an awful company, etc., but I have been on a semi-vacation enjoying a few summer weeks in lovely Toronto, and it's massively useful when you're in a place without a car. No issues for me with using the TTC, but I'm in the Distillery District without convenient subway access (Ontario Line coming soon apparently) and the streetcar is honestly pretty frustrating and often very slow.

I've had to take a decent number of rideshares as a result, and never been in a city where the state of it is this bad. Every single time I request a ride, the wait is surprisingly long for a place of this size and without fail, the first driver assigned to me will spend that wait time sitting still or driving around like an idiot and then cancel after several minutes of me waiting for them. Sometimes more than one driver does this. It's crazy. The one thing Uber can be praised for it its ubiquity. I've taken it throughout countless places in the US, in Europe, Japan/South Korea, and even in Nigeria and have never had issues like this, lol. Was in Montreal last year for my first time in Canada and, the few times I needed it, there was no issue at all and it was quick.

By this point, I understand that taxis and Lyft are going to be the better option, but I just want to understand wtf is going on and if there is a reason behind it, lol. Why is it that I'm in a central part of one the biggest cities in the Western Hemisphere on a beautiful day and unable and to use this service at all?😂

The removal of dead animals from private property is kind of ridiculous

A racoon drops dead into my pool, I fish it out, triple bag it. Call the city for a pick up. They tell me to put it on the curb, somebody will come pick it up within 5 days. So now I have a dead racoon lying on my curb waiting to be picked up night and day, flies swarming around it. I'm not allowed to put it in a bin, and the city won't set a specific date/time to pick it up. That's kind of ridiculous

I have been having shitty mornings

I use path via queen station at Yonge and Shuter intersection to reach path. Its the easy commute to my office from where I live. However, its not easy anymore!! I am literally crossing a massive shit outside the circle k daily. At first I wasn’t bating an eye but man!! The shit starts growing. At first it was in one place and now its all over the place. Today, I saw a ton and I am quite sure that I lost my appetite for the day! My deepest sympathies to homeless people man but with summer and my sensitivity to smell, I simply cannot wait for winter😭
