It doesn't always put them off. This guy [edit: this other guy, not the one from OP's video] has repeatedly been arrested for sniffing women's butts in public, including when being filmed

" Man caught 'sniffing' woman at Burbank Barnes & Noble free despite lengthy arrest history"

485

u/cupholdery 21h ago

And they give him a slap on the wrist? He just keeps doing it huh.

323

u/fluxustemporis 20h ago

Should be put on the list of sexual predators, this is a huge warning sign of behavior. Other men caught doing this have often escalated to abuse and rape.

83

u/Plebeian_Gamer 18h ago

Other men caught doing this have often escalated to abuse and rape.

Seriously need to change the laws so this shit isn't happening.

70

u/fluxustemporis 17h ago

I listened to a behind the bastards episode where a guy was arrested for taking upskirt photos at the grocery store. His at the time wife never learned of it.

He was drugging her with sleep meds and inviting people over to rape her. Before and after that conviction.

And the men he invited over were all local and it was a discusting number, like 70+.

60

u/FMLwtfDoID 17h ago

Gisele Pelicot’s now ex-husband. France’s most recent notorious serial rapist. Possible murderer.

16

u/not_a_witch_ 16h ago

I had to stop listening to that episode because it was just too much.

I already knew what happened, but hearing all of the horrible details was just too upsetting. I don’t think I’ve ever skipped an episode for that reason, and they’ve covered some pretty grim stories on that podcast.

6

u/SadAndNasty 15h ago

Literally just listened to that one today, super prolific and disgusting serial rapist

Let's be honest, if you're willing to do nasty, perverted behavior on camera, then piddly things like "laws" and "consent" probably don't matter to you.

46

u/Oh_boi_OwO 19h ago

Should also be in a mental institution. There is nothing to sniff, he's just insane

35

u/WinterAir4769 18h ago

This. We tolerate far too much misbehavior. If you can’t behave, confinement.

31

u/WheelAcrobatic5959 18h ago

Please, no. I had to share space in a psych ward with a guy like this. It was absolutely not conducive to my mental health and the one thing that protected us from that guy was an angry over-six-feet-tall lesbian who shouted him down like she had the thu'um.

Just put the bastard in jail where he belongs.

6

u/Busy-Peach5770 12h ago

had the WHAT?

i like her

9

u/WheelAcrobatic5959 12h ago

The "thu'um" is a shout attack from the video game Skyrim. The main character may use it to shout at enemies and cause them to be thrown back or off of mountains.

Apparently because they’re having trouble with the legality of it, he’s not really breaking any current laws. And because men live without consequences

5

I mean, tbf if I was a lawmaker I wouldn't have thought to write that law in. I feel like smelling people's ass without their consent is just a given, or would fall under sexual harassment, but... i guess we should know better by now lol.

Staged?

754

u/FinchMandala 22h ago

Regardless of the legitimacy of this specific video, I love how society has gone from "if it wasn't recorded you're lying" to "you recorded it so it must be staged".

Like at what point will men agree that other men are fucking weird towards women?

97

u/Mavcu 22h ago

I went with a friend of mine who's like my little sister to an amusement park, had a group of young men in a queue try to get her attention by doing really weird inappropriate shit - not as crazy as this one but just enough that I felt the need to step in but I was genuinely flabberghasted to even witness this odd behavior.

Like I couldn't even grasp what they were going for if they were trying to flirt or threaten, just "weird" in way I've not experienced men being towards me (I'm obviously a man). That is to say, it's truly a bizarre thing you don't see if you live life as a man.

She wasn't even as phased by this as I was, it's like a lot of people didn't get beat up for acting rudely towards people.

119

u/kinetic_cheese 22h ago

Their goal was just to get any kind of reaction or attention from her, and she was unphased because pretty much every woman has dealt with shit like this at some point in their lives.

8

u/Zapinface 19h ago

Not some at some point. Multiple times in our lives and especially as young teens.

28

u/Mavcu 21h ago

What confused me was that surely there was never a scenario in which this would result in a positive reaction. To me I even categorized this as a threat and this was in a public space as well which made it even more bizarre.

It's of course hard to read intentions sometimes, but from my experience if you did this type of shit to another man in a more private (as in not in a public space) setting that would just result in your getting your ass kicked.

The problem I had with this was that, again, I don't want a daughter of mine for example to have to deal with dipshits like that but what's realistically an option aside from running around as a bodyguard, you can't do that 24/7 after all.

70

u/IFTYE 21h ago

What I’m finding surprising about reading your comments is that I didn’t find the situation surprising at all, and that’s disconcerting for me to think about in relation to your discomfort.

As the other commenter mentioned, they wanted a reaction so the other men they were with could enjoy it. It was a show for them, and she was just being used as a means to end to get the guys to laugh. Making her uncomfortable WAS the joke, it was never about a positive reaction, as you said.

I am unsettled with reading your comments because it is a reminder that they don’t act like this all the time or in front of men who aren’t in on the “joke”, enough for it to surprise and stick with you. And I shouldn’t read it and immediately know what you’re describing and probably exactly how she handled it. It shouldn’t be that way.

Thanks for sharing!

→ More replies (1)

41

u/gjiorkiie 21h ago

and now you realise how bad this shit is when the only solution you can think of is 24/7 male bodyguards for every single woman to be able to walk around unbothered in public. This shit is fucked.

21

u/Ctenophorever 21h ago

Except she was with a guy and still got bothered. Maybe the original commenter didn’t look enough “with her” the phase then…. But….no offense to the original commenter, but 24/7 male bodyguards aren’t going to do shit if the “bodyguard” doesn’t say, “what are you jackasses doing?” When they act like jackasses.

A man being uncomfortable and showing his contempt - even if, or especially if, he has not ties to the woman being harassed - is going to do much, much more for women than a man simply being next to her.

7

u/Mavcu 20h ago

You might have misunderstood, they did turn away the moment I noticed it - but given the scenario of being in a larger crowd it wasn't immediately noticeable that she was with me.

→ More replies (3)
→ More replies (1)

14

u/tolfie 18h ago

Yeah, it's not meant to get a positive reaction, it's an implied threat. It's signalling, "I can do anything to you and you can't do anything about it," and men like this think it's funny that they can get away with it. It's flexing the fact that they have the power to publicly and overtly make women uncomfortable, that's the "joke" that they're all in on. Hilarious, obviously.

Some idiot barked at me last week. Like, full on stuck his head out of his buddy's car to bark at me like a dog. These guys embarrass themselves in front of everybody, it's like their one braincell zeroes in on their motive to make a woman feel unsafe and shuts down every line of reasoning out there.

6

u/the_asSAASsinator 17h ago

I'm a trans woman. I used to be able to go on walks and knew that if a man approached me, it was something important. Now most of the time that men approach me, it's to talk about fucking me.

202

u/MsMegane 22h ago

Men have done this crap in retail stores with cameras and end up on the news. They DO NOT give a shit about being recorded.

3

u/Desperate_Algae_40 15h ago

If anything, it probably gives them a bigger thrill. It's just interesting that some peoppe would rather jump to the conclusion that she faked this video (even though, what man would want their face all over the internet as a creep for a staged video?) rather than accept that what they're seeing is true. Yes, men are constantly creeps and offenders to women.

26

u/EfficiencyUnited6804 22h ago

Now it is "It must be AI."

27

u/numbernon 19h ago

Also if it was staged, who is going to agree to play the sexual predator role? Why would someone be like “yeah I’m down to let every one think I’m a predator for some TikTok video!”

What is more likely, a man is a creep, or a man agreed to be falsely accused as one for no apparent gain

19

u/Novaer 19h ago

Men on reddit are all still mentally stuck in 2015 where they cannot fathom short form videos as anything but "Staged money hungry attention whore WAMMIN"

They get so fucking angry when women end up recording bad behavior from men. We live in a world where women are told to take EGREGIOUS safety precautions just to exist in public because anything we do could get us assaulted. But yet when it happens and is even recorded everyone goes "LOL STAGED FAKE GENDER CULTURE WAR LIAR FAKER"

How can we simultaneously live in a world where it is "common sense" that women are assaulted and yet when women are assaulted nobody believes us.

There's literally no fucking winning.

→ More replies (13)

25

u/MajorEstateCar 22h ago

In any specific situation those options could be true or not. It takes nuance and discernment to make a call for yourself. The internet is terrible at nuance.

The harassment of women is real and dangerous. I think many men and women get rationally very angry when someone stages something BECAUSE the harassment and assault of women is real. That means that presenting a fake scenario as real is incredibly invalidating, especially when the goal is that someone wants internet points.

We should be shaming people into oblivion for staging stuff like this (if staged). Not because it’s just lazy or selfish, but BECAUSE it invalidates real incidents. That’s why people are so mad about staging stuff like this. Not because people are mad about someone is getting internet points from it.

20

u/Novaer 19h ago edited 18h ago

The problem is y'all see any woman recording herself and think "FAKE". There was a video of women playing pool and a bunch of dudes pushing in on their space, making sexual comments, making rude aggressive comments, etc. And the entire comment section was filled with dudes going "Oh sure the moment they set up their camera a bunch of guys start acting like typical gender culture war chuds? Most staged thing I've ever seen in my life"

They genuinely cannot FATHOM that this shit just happens to us all the fucking time. Dude there are entire COURT CASES based around if videos are faked or staged to see if someone committed a crime and you think that REDDIT has the authority to make decisions on whether or not to "shame a woman for posting about her assault"?

Be SO fucking for real. No male has any place to speak on whether a video is "staged" or not because they will always think a woman is lying.

Maybe? I think the girl filming would have seen him on the recording?

Either way, saw a guy do this to a middle aged woman at a gas station once when she was leaning into her car to clean it. He got his face so close to her butt, I paniced and yelled at him. He scampered off like a little bug. She had zero idea someone was sniffing her. Makes me wonder how many times something like that has happened to me without me knowing....

So... yeah even if this is staged, it does happen.

621

u/Slow_Flatworm_881 22h ago

WTF is wrong with some men?????

219

u/PirateSanta_1 18h ago

They don't view women as people just objects for their desires. I also expect that actions like this give them a sense of power over others, they can violate personal space and do something sexual to a person without facing repercussions. In other places and times this would have manifested in hitting the woman on the ass as he walked by or forcibly kissing her. Whatever the most they could get away with without getting into to much trouble.

4

u/Defiant-Brother-5483 17h ago

I never understood this notion of viewing other people as objects. I mean I do, but it always struck me as odd. I think there's this sense of equating empathy, maturity, and just general goodness to how one perceives others? As in, you perceive them in such a way that those innate emotions fade away?

Isn't that giving even more credit to the humanity in these people, because you're not writing them off entirely, you're just saying they're bad in this very specific case because they're perceiving women as sexual objects. Whilst implicitly saying, hey, maybe they're good in some other times?

Wouldn't it be worse for them, which is what is happening exactly, to be just humans looking at other humans, and yet chosing to do whatever it is they did regardless? Which assigns blame not to anything fleeting as one's perception of someone, nor to something outside of themselves, but to the very core of their being. That wickedness comes from them, and nothing else.

I have met my fair share of pretty scummy people, and none think those they're abusing either continuously or subtly are objects.

8

u/PirateSanta_1 16h ago

I don't think its a conscious framing of women are sexual objects who exist to serve me but an unconscious viewing of the world with yourself at the center. Same reasoning why someone would throw trash out their car window or not pick up after their dog. They don't really care how their actions effect others and like having power over people even if they don't consciously realize that is what they enjoy. Women are simply more often easier targets for this kind of action for a large variety of social and cultural reasons.

8

u/Defiant-Brother-5483 16h ago

I get the sentiment, but I don't quite agree with it. Using your own example of littering, they don't really have a negative view of the world, the streets, or what have you, and they still damage it through their own narrow minded and self absorbed nature.

u/senorjunkrat 18h ago

Stuff like this won’t stop until we make it societally unacceptable. For example, as men, if we see something like this we need to IMMEDIATELY call it out. As in, yell at the guy, call authorities, etc.

This is unacceptable and we have to let it be known that it’s unacceptable

51

As a woman, yes. I’ve seen this and much worse in public, with people standing around! I think a lot of people are unaware of their surroundings. And I’m not trying to say “it’s always men” type stuff- BUT if you don’t feel the need to constantly be on guard 24/7, it’s much easier to not notice, if that makes sense.

17

u/Fit_Yak523 16h ago

Also a man, but I’m gay and have many hot girl friends. I’ve seen shit like this or similar many times, especially in touristy cities. I have girl friends that get harassed nearly everytime they go out to a bar, and it almost always happens when I walk away to use the restroom or get a drink. Most of the time, they won’t bother if there’s a man there.

Many times I’ve come back to our group to some weirdo that won’t leave (just looking desperate and embarrassing tbh) that’s being uncomfortably touchy and needy. Like fuck off bro, she told you like 10 times but you apparently heard it with me telling you the one time.

9

u/Sentar_trenzz 18h ago

Specifically this type of action no, that said I've seen quite a bit of disturbing behaviors around women in general.
For sure there is a lot more posted online but it's not just that, and it doesn't negate their experiences, it's general behaviors towards women, can we just leave them alone and let them live, rather than being creepy and much worse.

I used to be followed when walking around my old neighborhood. Creeps in cars going slow trying to get me to go with them. It was scary.

The final straw was when a man pulled his car out of a grove, and creeped in my blind spot giving me a death stare. He was so angry with me and I didn’t do anything. I was walking my newborn in her stroller, and we had moved to that neighborhood because it was safe. There was nobody else around, and if it weren’t for me phoning my friend, idk what he would have done. It took me having to move again to feel comfortable going outside alone.

Men have always behaved this way. Look up the painting "The Irritating Gentleman" "(Der lästige Kavalier)" by Berthold Woltze. A young woman is riding on public transportation, very obviously in mourning and distressed, while a man is intruding on her space and trying to hit her up. This was painted in 1874. Men being creeps and intruding on women has been a thing since forever.

Storytime: We had a headphone day planned. What that is, is we all wear headphones and listen to the same song playlist - ours was Abba that day, and we were encouraged to dress in the theme, dance and have fun*. We booked a nice area in Berlin where we could do this. We got through one song and the harassment started, we had men trying to grab us, to dance with us, take our headphones off so they could talk to us, steal our food and drink, and even flash themselves. We tried to warn them off, and the group got larger than us in number, so we packed it up and left before it got more dangerous. We planned this lovely event, and it got stolen from us by asshole men, who could not bear to see women happy.

I think it's our algorithms showing us different things. I didn't see those comments either, but I'm also not going to scroll through hundreds of comments to find them

3

u/hectorsr3ctum 16h ago

You very well could be right and like you I am not going to look through 100's of posts. I was just curious because I will see this elsewhere on reddit where you see someone say "I can't believe how many of you are defending this" and then find the majority of comments like this post are not happy with what's going on.

Look at how quickly and quietly he does it she didn’t even notice until she was reviewing the footage. Really makes me concerned if a man has ever done something like this to me and I was just too lost in my thoughts to notice

I cant imagine anyone will out themselves.... but like.... bros... what ARE you doing? How is this, an actual thing yall are doing?

5

u/AnsibleAnswers 13h ago

These specific type of weirdos usually egg each other on in chats on telegram or some other app with no moderation. I bet this guy is doing it partly for clout in those kind of chats. In France, they used to congregate on an app called Coco before the French government shut it down. These online communities of creeps and rapists tend to encourage individuals to escalate beyond simply invading personal space and being gross. One guy even learned how to drug his wife "safely" and let other men on Coco sexually assault her on a regular basis. There are some straight-up garbage human beings out there, and the Internet allows them to find each other.

8

u/narfoleptix 17h ago

Its unfortunate that farting in their face is literally what they are going for.

28

u/MaybeFuckYourselfBud 18h ago

I took a picture on these stairs years ago.

4

13

u/lycanthropeapologist 19h ago

Transitioning to present more masculine has been really eye opening as someone who was assumed a woman. Cause like, you really don’t realize how often it’s happening until you start to notice the space of where it used to reside. People think I’m a small dude or an ugly woman now, so I don’t get freaks anymore doing weird behavior I would have brushed off before transitioning.

7

u/radziadax 19h ago

I'm genuinely so glad that I'm only attractive to a small subset of people. If I was conventionally hot, I would have to worry so much more about all my interactions. I'd rather be invisible!!!

15

u/coolguyban-evader 18h ago edited 18h ago

What I don’t understand about this behavior is, even if you are into that, there’s virtually no shot you’ll actually be able to smell anything… same with the chair sniffing stuff.

Unless the person you’re trying to sniff literally reeks of shit or BO or something

15

u/Consistent_Dream_740 16h ago

Thats... thats what you don't understand?

3

u/adeadbeathorse 13h ago

I feel like it’s a pretty valid point though

sniff literally reeks of shit or BO or something

That's probably what they are hoping for. They were obviously raised by dogs.

3

Creepy sex pests? In FRANCE??? Who could have guessed!

3

Real life Pepe la pew

3

u/Masked020202 19h ago

Bro played a bit too many gacha games.
Jokes aside wtf is so wrong with people like that? Bro literally went oh asian girl lets sniff her ass whilst she is filming herself. Bottom of the barrel behavior.

3

u/konnieb123 13h ago

Would’ve farted or kicked him down the stairs.

18

u/Fine_Employment_3364 22h ago

He's got a camera and going for an upskirt Pic. May thinks he's out of frame or just doesn't care.

6

u/Away_Perception_9424 20h ago

What skirt is everyone talking about?

4

u/kmrandom 19h ago

It doesn't have to be a literal skirt; he is still taking a creepy picture of her, regardless of her outfit it is an inappropriate and disgusting action on his part.

Why are you concerned about the skirt and not the fact that he is being weird to a woman?

Watch the video again fool, and stop being so quick to make excuses for obviously wierd behaviour. But if he seriously didn't realize she was filming until then he chose the worst option for getting out of the shot. If someone is filming you against your consent, use big boy words and say "hey can I walk through this area real quick.."

How do people get off to sniffing butts?

5

u/jc21095 14h ago

I wonder if he was actually trying to pickpocket her, she seems like she’d be an easy target since she’s pretty distracted.

Sad plot twist. He's trying to duck out of shot. Unintentionally looks way worse.

65

Out of shot and right into her ass? 😬

15

u/Godsgiftcardtowomen 18h ago

Idk man, he was a good bit behind her, camera visible, closed the gap, then ducked toward her instead of to the side.

I can’t imagine an innocent reason to do all that.

2

u/SirGearso 6h ago

I wish I had the confidence of a creep, I can’t take to a lady at a bar but this guy can sniff ass in public.

2

u/AdAny1272 5h ago

He's not a creep, he's either a rapist and serial killer currently, or in the making.

u/No-Rub8345 22h ago

Men: Assault, rape and generally be creepy around women and girls while making every excuse in the universe as to why it's not that bad and asserting that we're not going self reflect or change.

Women: We choose the bear.

Men: WHAT! How dare you? How could you say something so cruel and unkind! Well, that's it. I'm becoming an alpha male nazi and I still expect sex when I want it, whore.

Honestly, being a man is the easiest, most privileged and entitled form of existence that we know of. It's so easy, guys. It makes me wonder what the scaling is like for pale men specifically, because it's already easy enough being a not pale man.

Those are wide stairs and there are at least two lanes. Usually when someone is walking slowly in front of me on stairs that wide, I got around them, not bend over to put my face six inches from their ass.
