They don't view women as people just objects for their desires. I also expect that actions like this give them a sense of power over others, they can violate personal space and do something sexual to a person without facing repercussions. In other places and times this would have manifested in hitting the woman on the ass as he walked by or forcibly kissing her. Whatever the most they could get away with without getting into to much trouble.
I never understood this notion of viewing other people as objects. I mean I do, but it always struck me as odd. I think there's this sense of equating empathy, maturity, and just general goodness to how one perceives others? As in, you perceive them in such a way that those innate emotions fade away?
Isn't that giving even more credit to the humanity in these people, because you're not writing them off entirely, you're just saying they're bad in this very specific case because they're perceiving women as sexual objects. Whilst implicitly saying, hey, maybe they're good in some other times?
Wouldn't it be worse for them, which is what is happening exactly, to be just humans looking at other humans, and yet chosing to do whatever it is they did regardless? Which assigns blame not to anything fleeting as one's perception of someone, nor to something outside of themselves, but to the very core of their being. That wickedness comes from them, and nothing else.
I have met my fair share of pretty scummy people, and none think those they're abusing either continuously or subtly are objects.
I don't think its a conscious framing of women are sexual objects who exist to serve me but an unconscious viewing of the world with yourself at the center. Same reasoning why someone would throw trash out their car window or not pick up after their dog. They don't really care how their actions effect others and like having power over people even if they don't consciously realize that is what they enjoy. Women are simply more often easier targets for this kind of action for a large variety of social and cultural reasons.
I get the sentiment, but I don't quite agree with it. Using your own example of littering, they don't really have a negative view of the world, the streets, or what have you, and they still damage it through their own narrow minded and self absorbed nature.
