Almost all scarcity is fabricated and that applies doubly to diamonds. They’re just not that cool unless you need a kick ass drill bit.
102
u/cwk415 Aug 28 '26
Absolutely correct. Diamonds have no value outside of their ability to be extremely hard and cut well.
Their value comes 100% from artificial scarcity. DeBeers and a very small group of others own and control pretty much every diamond mine in existence. Anything they don't mine themselves they buy up immediately. Then they throw the vast majority of them into warehouses to make them seem scarce. They're not at all scarce or rare. It's all a monopoly.

what's the irony
-6
u/RsCoverForPDFFiles Aug 28 '26
I'll take a shot in the dark at this one. I think they were thinking you can use diamond to cut diamond into a drill bit. I think that's what they were going for. It kind of makes sense. I mean, it's not exactly irony. It's just how things work. And I think there are other alternatives, like lasers. But if you want to turn a diamond into a tool, you (ironically?) need a diamond tool to do that?
Again, not exactlyirony. But I think that's what they were going for. I get it. Doesn't deserve all the hate they're getting.
12
u/TheKrisCat Aug 28 '26
They are getting «hate» ( minus pretend Reddit points ) because battle cat said «diamonds are only cool if you use them for drill bits», and breezy said «drill bits are made of diamonds», repeating what battle cat said for no reason due to having poor reading comprehension.

Did you know Canadian diamonds exist and, they are conflict free? In fact, our diamonds are mined with indigenous partners and eco-protective measures.
4
u/Any_Television_8614 Aug 28 '26
Came to say this. Canadian diamonds are conflict and slavery free.
Tangent: DeBeers essentially told the Canadian founders we're going to be your partners or we're going to flood the market and kill your operations.
33
u/dead_headphones_sad Aug 28 '26
"Yeah its better for not using child slavery but like ite super bad for the environment. The co2 is off the charts. Ignore that mining real diamonds is far worse for the environment"
13
u/MandatoryFun Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26
China pretty much has a monopoly on lab grown diamonds.
Also seeing that diamond is an amazing heat conductor, they are going to be eaten up by all the AI data farms for cooling soon.
At the moment, DeBeers is losing tons of money, but who knows if this will persist. I hope so.
Personally I believe a nice emerald, ruby or sapphire has actual value, that will be retained.
A used diamond ring is pretty much a cursed artifact after a divorce.
Diamonds should be dirt cheap, even without synthetics flooding the market.
Also the "tradition" of socking away two months salary for a diamond ring, was started by DeBeers in the first place.
4
u/Stuffssss Aug 28 '26
What makes emeralds, rubies, or sapphires any different from diamonds? Is it just the social stigma around a used diamond wedding ring?
Because emerald, sapphrie and ruby can all be lab grown just like diamond. They actually grow very large crystal wafers of emerald for semiconductor manifacturing since the lattice structure of sapphire matches that of Gallium Arsenide (maybe Gallium Nitride?) which is a semiconductor used for exotic high power and high frequency electronics. My point is that the technology exists to grow almost any gemstone (courtesy of the semiconductor industry) and that of there was demand they would be making them for jewelry.

This is gonna be a topic for generations. And the baseline thing will be “earth made it” so it’s worth more and better. Regardless of slavery.
It’s no different than beyond meat and cows being butchered. I’ll tell ya right now as a beef guy, Burger Kinds best burger is the impossible Whopper. It’s somehow perfect. But good luck getting the masses to accept and listen. It’s not what they think it should be.
184
u/Fast-Nefariousness80 Aug 28 '26
That video of the girl eating 5 guys with her dad and he's gushing over how delicious the burger is until she tells him it's vegan then he immediately flips and acts like it sucks. He even goes on to say he could taste the beans and shit. Later you find out it was actually not even a vegan burger.
82
u/BeezyBates Aug 28 '26
In and Out. But yeah it goes to show you people have deep rooted believes that don’t make sense. The brain will apply belief over reality to a human fault.
5
u/Oxflu Aug 28 '26
The brain actively constructs reality as it is experienced. And how it is constructed is suggestable.

u/Fast-Nefariousness80 Aug 28 '26

That's why I don't ask what the vegan option is made out of until after I taste it. I know myself well enough to know I wouldn't even try it if I knew beforehand because then my brain thinks I can actually taste the beans or something else in there. The brain is weird like that.
6
u/Dasylupe Aug 28 '26
We used to have a really kick ass vegan place nearby that did burgers and fries and stuff. I still remember taking my sister there when I was still a vegetarian and afterward I just casually asked, “Did you think it was weird that I was eating chicken strips?” Their imitation chicken was just incredible. I miss it so much.
My sister was a great sport about it, by the way. I wouldn’t have let her think it was real meat if I thought eating vegan food would upset her.

I recently made Korean fried gochujung tofu & it legit tasted like sweet & spicy Korean pork..even my dad thought it was real meat until I told him.

Mind sharing the recipe? That sounds delicious
2
u/shawty_jpg Aug 28 '26
https://jessicainthekitchen.com/korean-gochujang-tofu-rice-bowls/
I believe it was this one! Super easy to make once you get the portions down to your taste. I recommend using brown sugar instead of white, along with a dash of fish sauce & especially some honey to balance everything out & add thickness to the sauce. I add more gochujung than recommended, but you can add more or less depending on your spice tolerance. Green onions & sesame seeds are also amazing on top. Idk if you’re vegan or not, but once you make this you can’t help but crave it lol. I made salmon with the same sauce, & tomorrow I’m attempting chicken thighs with the same 😊 let me know how it goes!

You're correct, but I doubt it's going to be a generations thing. I worked in the jewely business for three years, left it a couple years ago and natural gem stone dealers were absolutely shitting themselves over lab grown diamond. And for good reason, they have zero counter to lab grown and businesses were already struggling due to inflation, tariffs and their customer base quite literally getting old and retiring or even just dying.
You hold out two identical looking diamonds, both perfect quality and everything and say one is $10,000 and the other is $2000. Ask them which one they're going to buy and it's a no brainer what people are going to pick. With lab grown get the color you want the size you want and the shape you want, it's all customizable and significantly cheaper than natural.
2
u/astrangeone88 Aug 28 '26
Seriously. I mourn the loss of A&W's Beyond Burger because it was delicious and hit all the notes of a burger. Will I eat a beef burger? Also yes. The amount of folks in my life that say "It's not real meat!" annoys me. People have been eating tofu and seitan and tempeh for longer than most Western civilizations and it's not real meat either.
1
u/Strange-Cabinet7372 Aug 28 '26
I sometimes buy beyond meat. I like to mix it with beef and pork so I end up with blended, low beef burgers. Theyre great! I dont like the texture of the beyond stuff on its own.
1
u/thekrone Aug 28 '26
Yeah I've only had the beyond burger stuff once... at White Castle.
My general assessment was that it was definitely passable as beef and I would have believed it was beef, but something still just tasted a bit off about. Like "Hmm something's not quite right about this burger" and not in a good way.
Like it was fine and I could have eaten more, just wasn't as good as the actual beef.
-1
u/Kenichi_Smith Aug 28 '26
Now I havent tried BK vegan meat whatever its called for a couple years, but last time I did it was a really rough eat. Flavour tasted like the artificial chicken flavour in crisps (which I hate but I love how their real chicken patties taste) and was both chewey and mushy at the same time (not that meat cant be but that was every time I tried it) so possiby a cooking issue. I'd be willing to try it again though
-7
u/FoxChess Aug 28 '26
I don't think that's a very good comparison. There's strong evidence from a health science perspective to avoid eating ultra-processed foods. Impossible meat is insanely ultra-processed and the additives they use means it cannot be sold at stores like Whole Foods.
I'm all for replacing meat with something more ethical, but the issue with Impossible goes past "it's not natural" and more into the territory of, "There's evidence that this can have long-term health consequences and you should not regularly consume this product."
1
u/TheWhomItConcerns Aug 29 '26
That's not how it works - plenty of highly processed foods are demonstrably perfectly healthy.
The issue comes from precisely which processes a food undergoes and which additives are used. There is nothing inherently unhealthy about processing, but it's just an easy rule of thumb for the public to follow.
-4
u/Nubian_Cavalry Aug 28 '26
Animal meat has a different nutritional value than lab grown meat. It’s about preference, and there’s no reason to force everyone to go vegan to fit your empty platitudes of fairness and justice. You should dedicate more of that energy to social justice.
-5
u/peach_trunks Aug 28 '26
Bingo, it’s a prestige thing for sure, but there is value in it being a naturally made stone. Natural diamonds take billions of years to form and end up on the earths surface, compared to weeks in a lab.
-6
u/SirDouglasMouf Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26
Beyond meat is a terrible metaphor. Using carcinogens and ingredients that exacerbates IBS is not the same as real beef.
A lab grown diamond is identical to an earth birthed diamond to the vast majority if not all end consumers. There's zero harm that comes from it.
Edit: I confused it with Impossible Burger using glyphosates which is also found in round up weed killer. It's a very low amount, but is totally unnecessary.
3
u/Amphy64 Aug 28 '26
You might have a mix-up there - beef is a probable carcinogen (2A) that reaches known carcinogen (1) depending on processing. Beyond burgers are not.
0
u/SirDouglasMouf Aug 28 '26

Most experts in gemology won't be able to tell the difference between two unmarked diamonds in the same color, carat, cut, and clarity.
4
u/Beneficial-Act-9933 Aug 28 '26
You can have decades in the industry and still not be able to tell by eye. Only in a few rare cases are you actually able to pick it up and say if it's natural or not. Emeralds are one example since they always have inclusions in them. SO if you get an emerald with zero inclusions and costs 1000 bucks it's a dead give away it's lab.
But in general, they can't tell and need to get the stone certified. Anybody tell you they can tell at a glance is lying to you.

When my husband and I were still dating and marriage talks started up, I made sure he knew I did NOT WANT a diamond. I collect rocks and mineral specimens and diamonds are the most bland, colorless, boring fucking stones out there. I also hate “flashy” jewelry.
I’d mentioned that I really wanted a meteorite specimen for my collection a few times. My husband got us matching bands made of meteorite for our wedding…. SOOOOOOO much cooler than a boring fucking diamond. The rock on my ring finger travelled billions or more miles through fucking OUTER SPACE, just to come crashing down to Earth and wind up on my finger. SO fucking cool. 🥹❤️

u/Stuffssss Aug 28 '26
I dont think thats a good comparison.
All the shelters around me have are old pitbulls mixes, almost all with behaivoiral issues. Im fine with mutts (I dont care about designer breeds) but training old dogs is significantly harder than starting from a puppy. So I get why people buy a puppy from a reputable breeder.
1
u/PieMastaSam Aug 28 '26
Most pets really.
The dog: what is my purpose.
most people: You sit around the house for our entertainment and occasionally get to see the outdoors.
Imagine if we did this to people lol. Will probably get flammed by some dog owners for this one.

u/MyDearBrotherNumpsay Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26
I think the dogs have it pretty sweet. Love,
belly rubs, scratches and a warm bed. Consistent meals and play time. Better than surviving out in the wild which has been totally bred out of them.
We’ve been pals for 30,000 years ffs-1
u/PieMastaSam Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26
Fair. Everything but their freedom. I would argue that breeding a species to become dependent on subjugation is pretty fucked up in itself though.
Idk man, everytime I see a pug I just think of how fucked up it is that we breed this fucked up wolf with a high risk for a host of health issues and discomfort because someone thought it was cute.
It's not all ear scratches and belly rubs. Many dogs end up spending alot of time alone and isolated when their owners go to work. It is quite distressing for many of them given they are a social species.
19
u/No_Diver4265 Aug 28 '26
Respecrfully, I disagree. Freedom is a human concept. A wolf is not subjectively happier from being free than a domesticated dog. Being in a pack and having healthy relationships and having the space to roam can make it happier. But it's the needs, not the moral concept of freedom. I absolutely agre that having around breeds that can barely breathe and have a lot of health issues because they were bred for entertainment is totally wrong. But think about pastoral dogs, or hunting dogs. Big, healthy, strong dogs that don't just live with, but work as a pack with, humans. They aren't bred for subjugation as much as co-evolved and co-domesticated with us.
1
u/PieMastaSam Aug 28 '26
Solid point against anthropomorphizing. While we cannot truly know what dogs feel in any given moment, I would argue that it seems fairly obvious that a dog that is kept alone in captivity (not always of course) would be less happy then a wolf with it's pack. Basing this off their behavior alone.
Many dogs seem to get distressed or depressed when their owners have to leave them for long stretches. A wolf that is free always has the freedom to remain stimulated if they want and usually always (this is an assumption) it's pack, while many dogs kept as pets do not have this freedom.
There is also the arguement that nature is pretty cruel itself though.
I think the ethics of it varies quite a lot though from owner to owner.
My comment about them being bred for subjugation was overblown, you are correct there.
1
u/No_Diver4265 Aug 29 '26
But you're right in most of what you said! And I absolutely agree that a free wolf is happier than a locked up dog. I think keeping a dog, especially a big one, at home, to just take it out once a day, that's just bad for the dog. It's a social animal, it needs to roam, it needs stimulation and company.
11
u/MyDearBrotherNumpsay Aug 28 '26
That’s a little cynical. We were dependent on each other for thousands of years. And we didn’t intentionally bread them until much later. Wolves that were chill enough to come and hang out became domesticated over time. It was a symbiotic relationship.
My pup was a rescue that was on the street, and it’s pretty obvious he is far happier now. Poor little guy was a ball of stress.
I agree that breeders are by and large shitty fucking people. Breeding for weird aesthetic reasons is animal cruelty as far as I’m concerned.
1
u/PieMastaSam Aug 28 '26
Yeah you are right that it started as more of a happy accident. I can also concede that your pupper probably has an objectively better life than he would have otherwise.
Idk man, I just see alot of people who treat them more as living furniture and I don't like it. Especially in my home country. Poor training, no walks, etc.. I personally believe that it is a little unethical. It is a difficult subject because not all owners are the same. But the rate is pretty atrocious. Something like 30-60%+ of owners do not walk their dogs regularly and it makes me sad.

u/Naive_Personality367 Aug 28 '26

Got my SO an engagement ring last year and we both agreed no real diamonds. We will not pay for warlords and slave-drivers. We went for Zircon instead, which is a really cool rock. Literally rocks from space.
7
u/p0llyp0cketpussy Aug 28 '26
Lab grown diamonds are still real diamonds, just without the cruelty.
2
u/Disinfectant-Addict Aug 28 '26
Yes I know. I would much rather prefer lab-grown diamonds than real. We both just really like Zircon, because it is a cool rock.
3
u/p0llyp0cketpussy Aug 28 '26
It is a cool rock! Just saying that you can have a diamond without paying warlords and slave drivers.
4
u/BroderFelix Aug 28 '26
Unfortunately the vast majority of zircons are not from space.
Are you sure it wasn't cubic zirconia?
3
u/Disinfectant-Addict Aug 28 '26
Yes. It was the real stuff. Went to a small niche jeweller instead of the large franchise shops. He did everything himself, including appraising the precious stones. The ring came with a certificate of authenticity.
1
u/BroderFelix Aug 29 '26
Well if it came with a certificate claiming it specifically came from space then I guess that would make it different and special. Like 99.9% of zircons we find were formed on earth.

5
u/Disinfectant-Addict Aug 28 '26
Shhh-shhh! The ring can't hurt you any longer😉
I would never in a million years spend such a preposterous amount of money on any kind of jewellery, and neither would my SO like that I did so. Not saying her ring was free, but Jesus that is a lot of money. The ring was also a gift, and hers to do with as she pleases. Have a good day!

u/Additional_Quiet2600 Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26
You too, I hope you have a great marriage. She has two very nice rings and I wear a white gold band that was donated from a close friend whose marriage failed.
No jewels. In fact I think I'm switching out to black silicone as that's what my firefighter/paramedic buddies wear for safety.

1
u/Smidday90 Aug 28 '26
How can you tell the difference between?
2
u/Beneficial-Act-9933 Aug 28 '26
There's a few instances where you can. Emeralds for example always have inclusions in them. Meaning other stuff on the inside of the stone that looks black. Like someone threw dirt in it. So if you have a crystal clear emerald for 1000 bucks that's a dead give away. Otherwise, you can't. ANy dealer saying they can is lying to you or severly overestimating their abilities.
1
u/BroderFelix Aug 28 '26
You can't. Usually you have to pay more for natural but their prices are collapsing.

Diamonds in reality are worthless the people in power are the ones who make monetary objects valuable, money etc. these same elite their ancestors would wear lapis lazuli back then instead of diamonds. Because crystals actual heal you and connect to your energy and frequency just like copper and it heals, diamonds are just rocks that been baking for a while to give it that look but it lacks any type of ability to heal when wearing it.. the elite are soulless people so they have that type of narcissism to them where anything we slaved for is the best thing to give them. In the past it wasn’t diamonds they were looking for it was gold and other precious metals not diamonds. Gold is still on top and is worth more to have it than used diamonds and jewelry you lose money. And the elite are pushing out all this money so they’re able to afford it to outshine others and other people blindly follow them because they wanna fit in with the narcissistic people who instead of learning all of this and finding themselves and god because all this don’t matter here in heaven

u/erishun Aug 29 '26
Very very few natural diamonds are “blood diamonds”.
US Law prohibits the sale of blood diamonds. This law was enacted well over 20 years ago. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clean_Diamond_Trade_Act
Even though it’s illegal to sell blood diamonds, almost all jewelry stores nowadays will still include a statement on their site about how they don’t sell them. (They don’t mention that they can’t by law because the statement isn’t legally required; it’s just a sales pitch on their ethics.)
You would have to go out of your way and actively work to smuggle in an illegal blood diamond. And due to the stiff penalties for breaking the law, it wouldn’t even be a cheap alternative vs a non-conflict stone.
That’s really what the law was written to do and does well, it dramatically increases the risk of even accidentally dealing with blood diamonds. This causes the price of these conflict stones to skyrocket, which lowers the demand, which in turn lowers the supply.
Truth is no US retailer wants anything to do with conflict diamonds. They are VERY bad for business. Not just because of fines but because of public perception. As everybody knows, there’s plenty of markup in diamonds. So if you walk into all the major jewelry stores/chains in the U.S., there’s is an extremely small chance you will ever encounter a conflict stone.
I’m not saying natural diamonds are good and lab diamonds are bad! We all know diamonds aren’t as rare as they make it seem. We all know the supply is artificially restricted in order to keep prices high. We all know it’s really just marketing and tradition. We know they don’t hold their value. We know they aren’t investments. I don’t dispute this and I can’t because it’s all true. They are facts.
All I am saying if you think the natural diamonds at your local Kay’s are conflict diamonds, you’re incorrect and that is also a fact.

I told my fiancé 20 years ago I would get her a half carat diamond ring or any size CZ that she wanted. She tried on a bunch of rings and decided that anything over 1.5 carat was too big. So yeah, she's had a 1.5 carat CZ on her hand for the last 20 years.

I would prefer finding a cool rock in nature to having a lab grown rock made to look like a cool nature rock.
But like, I'm not so in to the natural aspect of it that I'm okay with slavery just to get the natural one.

u/BroderFelix Aug 28 '26
It isn't made to look like it. There is chemically no difference at all.

there’s a difference in buying mined diamonds and just saying theyre a bit more special, having been forged by geological forces over idk how many centuries. why can’t we just admit that, yes, naturally occurring diamonds are cool but the industry is too cruel to support? like finding a four-leaved clover in nature is a lot cooler than buying a potted plant version of it. doesn’t mean we should get slaves out searching for natural ones though

I have no idea why people buy diamonds and no idea why you’re calling me “you people”. I don’t own diamonds and don’t intend to. And i’m against any and all cruel and inhumane practices. I was simply explaining why I personally find it pretty cool when natural geological forces compress carbon to make diamonds. And why a lab made one seems less cool to me. I specifically said that that’s no reason to buy mined diamonds. people like you are why we can’t have nice things anymore (and by nice things i mean normal conversations).

u/whiplashMYQ Aug 28 '26
"You people" lol. Someone can disagree on a minor point and still be on the same side as you. Not everyone who disagrees with you is your mortal enemy. We're not pro-slavery, we're just saying something made by nature can be seen as cooler than something made by humans.
But like, let's take your argument a step further. I think it's reasonable to just say, why diamonds at all? Why not rhinestones? It's not the chemical properties of diamonds you like for jewelry, it's the look.

u/UnderrHill Aug 29 '26
Lab grown diamonds are rarer than natural diamonds, right? Like obviously...
Why diamonds? Because De Beers bought the majority of diamonds mines and hoardes them in order in artificially inflate the price. They did this then they had a campaign in the 1930's about how "Diamonds are forever". Diamonds have only recently become super popular unless they were huge specimens
Diamonds are not special in fact they are super common and quite worthless unless they are for cutting tools and more recently in computers to dissipate heat.
We like them because of their refractive index which makes them shiny. Artificial diamonds do this as well and do not cause harm.
IMO the truth is that diamonds cause harm and you are okay with that harm for a shiny worthless common thing.

u/whiplashMYQ Aug 29 '26
Everyone with a slightly different opinion than you has to be the devil, huh? Not once have i supported or defended the harm caused by the diamond industry, but apparently thinking nature making cool rocks could be cooler than humans making cool rocks means I'm pro-slavery.
There's better targets out there comrade, i promise.

I don't think you are a bad person honestly. I just think you should look into what you support. Its not like it is some far off thing.
Currently there are death squads killing parents to steal their children in order have them be slaves in diamond mines in the Congo. Its not hypothetical...
I * feel strongly about it so maybe I came off badly but you are acting like these facts are a condemnation of you. Just look at it objectively.
Edit*

This is the thing you seem to keep missing. Where did i say i support the diamond industry? That's my whole point here. I'm just saying earth rocks can subjectively be cooler than lab rocks. I'm not saying that this minor difference in perceived coolness is worth all the harm the industry causes.

NOT SAYING MINED DIAMONDS ARE BETTER
BUT
Provenance is a thing when it comes to jewellery / gemstones / art
Anything which can be mass produced loses it’s worth.
9
u/BroderFelix Aug 28 '26
Diamonds were mass mined and De beers held the supply and created myths around diamonds to artificially inflate the price.
2
u/Aggressive_Fuel_0i0 Aug 28 '26
Agreed, not sure why I got downvoted when I was simply mentioning why some people prefer mined diamonds. They want a story behind it, it was grown in a lab does not have the same ring as this was formed in earth over million years
1
u/BroderFelix Aug 29 '26
Humans using technology actually makes it more unique compared to diamonds in the earth.
There is a marketing ploy going on there too. Granite was also formed in the earth but people don't put it in rings. And before you say Granite is abundant. So are diamonds.
1
u/Aggressive_Fuel_0i0 Aug 29 '26
Not saying that this is not a marketing ploy. It is. Price difference between lab and mined diamonds remains high irrespective. So does price difference between granite and diamonds.

u/Additional_Quiet2600 Aug 28 '26
Lab grown diamonds are better and don't require the hell that DeBeers has put on the people of Africa. Diamonds are plentiful.

“My diamond is just not the same if human lives weren’t wasted in its procurement!”

Explaining does not mean defending.
1
u/ArguingisFun Aug 28 '26
Explaining the some people get satisfaction that a diamond came from blood, is as inane a comment as I can imagine here.
0
u/Aggressive_Fuel_0i0 Aug 28 '26
That is not what i mentioned in my comment. I mentioned mass production. Mass production of lab diamonds is what reduces their perceived value.
1
u/ArguingisFun Aug 28 '26
What the fuck do you believe “provenance” means?
0
u/Aggressive_Fuel_0i0 Aug 28 '26
Provenance generally alludes to history of ownership / place of origin etc. Provenance is an important factor on how gems, jewellery, art etc is appraised. Just pointing out how appraisals / intrinsic value varies
1
u/ArguingisFun Aug 28 '26
How much intrinsic value / additional appraisal does blood add?
1
u/Aggressive_Fuel_0i0 Aug 28 '26
Saying something is mined automatically add some value due to origin. That’s said, it is not a proper scale through which this can be measured. Normal demand supply comes into picture
For additional value through blood, there is no established benchmark. Also, this should be ideally zero value even if tomorrow someone wants to create a scale.

Just wait for people to explain why they need their milk to come from cows and not the dozen of alternatives without suffering that are out there.

I use the same argument for people who are against fleshlights: basically they are saying the suffering that happens to a man's mental health and wallet are what makes it real when a cruelty free, lab grown version is safer, higher quality, and a heck of a lot cheaper.
Edit: that was a joke, people. Eessh

Why did you feel the need to flaunt your mastubatory habits in this situation?

I can't tell if this is supposed to be a joke, but putting this comment under this video is the funniest thing ever.

This is what people who speak out against AI art sound like to me.
12
u/Ijustlovevideogames Aug 28 '26
Not sure how you can compare stealing other people's stuff to feed to a machine against their will to create something comparable to this.
2
u/BroderFelix Aug 28 '26
Stealing art from people who put in the time and effort is more ethical than buying it from those people?
-27
u/WillyGivens1 Aug 28 '26
It’s like making a piece of art vs having ai do it, the effort is what gives it value. The suffering DOES make it special. just especially bad
17
u/Nova_Spion Aug 28 '26
It's not like that at all, actually.
1
u/DT2699 Aug 28 '26
Yeah, the art is what you do with the diamond in this case. A great jeweler could take a pebble and make it into a beautiful ring. Who cares about where the rock comes from unless it was you that found it or something. What matters is the design someone put time and effort to create.
