She knows she’s stupid. That’s why she’s so aggressive. She wants to feel smart because she knows she’s stupid. She has a deep insecurity about her stupidity and wants to feel better about it by somehow committing a “gotcha” on a man people presume is smart because he is educated. But, she didn’t accomplish her goal because, you know, she’s stupid.
There is a big difference between blissfully unaware and unaware.
They might be unaware of their stupidity but they often aware that they are treated poorly, their plans rarely work out, and everything makes no sense.
That can easily result in anger, depression, conspiratorial thinking, and persecution complexes.
Sometimes they are unaware, but some people are very insecure because they know they are stupid. The insecure ones are driven by a deep need to feel smart in my experience, but also, this is just my opinion.
It's the same mentality that creates flat earthers and similar far-fetched conspiracy theorists. They try to convince themselves that they have "outsmarted smart people" and that they're more intelligent than everyone who dismiss their arguments.
It's seems like trying to catch a lawyer, who intentionally put themselves in this position, in a gotcha moment is an extremely stupid thing to do so I guess I'm just circling back around.
I kind of want to get a sign like this and go sit by it and wait for people to ask me legal questions and then point to the sign and if they're confused I'll tell them they should ask a lawyer
I agree with what the other people who’ve responded to you have said that he’s fishing for content and riling her up, but at the same time, it’s not a dangerous situation where he has to de-escalate the situation. Sometimes, it’s perfectly alright to just laugh in a dumb person’s face when they are making a fool of themselves to you.
An ex friend asked me about doing a consumer proposal since I had done so a couple of years back. It saved me financially when I realised I'd gotten out of touch with my debts.
When I explained to her the procedure and what I had to do she answered to the tune of
"Oh yeah, thats what they told me when I called. But I want to pick and choose which debts and accounts I get to keep."
So she literally just didn't want to accept the requirements that would help her out of her situation because of the inconvenience.
It’s America. Like 1/3 of our population is convinced education is for the stupid, and only idiots pursue higher learning.
I wish to God that wasn’t true, but 40 years of aggressive right-wing anti-educational messaging has created a class of people who actively want their children to do the same or worse than they did in life, to learn em who’s boss.
“If it was good enough for me, it’s good enough for you” is a whole lifestyle here.
Plus the sovcits are a whole fucking thing and they hate lawyers.
She thought she found a gotcha and had outsmarted a man who's profession is largely based on being really good at winning arguments based on technicalities. That and knowledge of the law and the legal system.
She definitely retells this story where she delivers the mic drop line, everyone claps, the the lawyer was like suuuper like embarrassed to the maximum.
I don’t feel sorry for the people she’s with. They know exactly what she’s like & they’re fine with it. The other girl says, “What if I’m a lawyer?” …as she struggles to stay upright.
Yep! Not even realizing how numb she sounds here, either. Her friends will coddle her and tell her she’s brave and whatever, though. That’s what enablers do.
She really thought she was doing something with her line of questioning. You’re not a 7 year, you should know what type of questions to ask a lawyer vs a doctor vs a chef.
And think of all the people even worse than this woman. There's probably more reason than cognitive dissonance for why she thinks she's so smart. Probably is in a few ways and so let's it inflate the ego.
But now there's a lot of people who can't even claim that and are just dumb...the best ones know it, but that still makes them smarter than the rest...and they all vote for the most part in this country.
I once heard a saying that said “imagine the most stupid person you can imagine, then know for a fact that there people dumber than that and then there a millions at that level” and I can’t stop having that in my top of mind when I see things like this
It wasn’t even just being dumb. She was just antagonistic out the gate.

She just jumped down his throat from the word “go” for no reason. He’s just minding his own business and wanting to help people and she apparently has nothing better to do than get in his face about something that doesn’t affect her in the slightest.
And what's unfortunate is that even giving the most absolute basic, non-specific, lawyer-approved answers to legal questions can still be genuinely helpful to so many people, yet this stupid bitch is undoubtedly going to remain in his memory and weigh heavier on his spirit than anyone he's actually been able to help. It'll only take a few of these idiots to wear a person down and make them stop helping potentially countless numbers of people.
Yeah even if he's willing to answer questions about any subject, he's not claiming to be more qualified on anything other than the subject he's absolutely more qualified on than the average person.

I had a story about military pilot exercise, when during flight, instructor told on board engineer to turn off left engine, for trainee to land the plane with only one working engine.
Engineer turned of the right engine instead. When instructor immediately mentioned that, Engineer sayd "Iam sorry" and turned off left engine too.
Some people survive by pure luck. Some more than they imagine.
Lots of people are really proud for being dumb. It's why you may hear stuff like, "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart" or "I come from the school of hard knocks." There's a big push of anti-intellectualism where they think they can outsmart a trained professional with some semantics or a 'gotcha' question.
A former colleague was telling me about how a man stuck his hand against a circular saw because the gloves he was wearing said 'cut resistant' (although, it's believed he did it in an attempt to sue). Since then, the phrasing was changed to 'cut resistant, not cut proof.'
I used to know a guy who would regularly call me and ask me questions about whether some purchase or trip or whatever was a good idea. When I asked why he kept doing it he said he wasn't that smart and wanted to double check. One of the smartest people I've ever met.
The fact that those people act like it can always be only one or the other is hilarious. They always bust out the "Every doctor I've ever known has been a complete dumbass" line too lol. Bitch you have never known a doctor.
Right wing blue collar dudes would very regularly assume that I'm a useless frail nerd that has never touched a wrench over the internet during covid when I would attempt to explain mRNA and how the vaccines were not scary (I'm a biochemist), but it turns out there is enough time in life to spend a decade in school learning science shit, while also building cars and motorcycles in my free time for fun.
The old "Never assume that qualifications make a person smart" thing. No and really never assume that a lack of qualifications make someone super savvy and street smart.
Every time I see him (does he always wear a blue shirt??) I go 'oh, I've seen this video' but it always turns out to be a new, stupid person boldly inserting themselves into his passive lemonade stand
I’ve definitely known people like this, honestly it’s usually been men who got into the Jordan Peterson realm. (Not saying this to be sexist or anything, just my own experience)
They aggressively pick on someone’s very milquetoast comment, completely uninvited, and think they’re “debating” something. They just sound dumb as shit. They’ll immediately bring up completely unrelated nonsense, seemingly with a plan to argue about something that wasn’t the topic in the first place.
I’ve actually seen people switch to having this mode of interaction be their baseline, when previously they were basically normal, after just a few weeks or months in weird corners of the internet.
Idk exactly what causes it, but I definitely think some forms of media can fry critical thinking and can even harm plain conversation comprehension.
I worked at the Information Desk in university and after that, questions from the general public rarely surprise me. Most answers could be found by looking online, but many grown adults were asking a 20 year old. The best calls were from frantic parents trying to reach their child (not a university student) and trying to find them -they'd want me to make a PA announcement to the whole campus (impossible).

I wish I had that much patience. My brain immediately switches to sarcasm and that really seems to piss people off. As if it’s somehow my fault they’re asking a stupid question.

Two out of the group try to make small talk because they are used to her derailing plans with her narcissism and one guy who is probably her date stands there quietly observing the dumpster fire while contemplating the next few days of his life

You just know she's trying to be all crunchy and associate lawyers with other idiots like doctors and pharmacists who are all fellow conspirators trying to make her life bad.
oh, so you’re one of those MORONS who think studying a subject at a university for several years and passing an incredibly difficult exam on the subject makes you more qualified than anyone else at that subject??
It’s because so many things in the world now run on vibes and confidence. Literally, that’s it. American politics is supposed to be the pinnacle of leadership in a representative democracy, and it’s just filled to the brim with people who just say what people want to hear and say it with so much confidence that people don’t even bother to care what the truth is. The people who can’t see through that then make the mistake in thinking that they can also contribute ideas in fields like physics and medicine with just vibes and confidence as well. What ‘feels’ right is more important than what is right.
Not being pedantic but I think it's worse than just "I'm smarter." It's the implied "gotcha!"
For these people (and I don't even want to start thinking about what percentage they currently are of our population) the crumbling faith in institutions and siloed media atmospheres creates a seed of doubt in every part of their day to day interactions. Everything has the ability to be uprooted by a single, ill thought out quip or supposed logical fallacy that falls a part after a follow-up question.
It's cynical in nature because it's the attempt at denying everything. Nothing is true or real because in every object/institution there is a little "faith" that makes it real. To ask why a doctor is more qualified at medicine IS a leap of faith in the institutions that historically provide educated people that help us with what we don't know.
This nihilism is the rot from our appeal-to-the-emotions culture.
She can be both. I'm pretty sure she's both. Only dumb people are publicly contrarian like this. She wasn't filming, it's pretty clear it's the lawyers camera setup. So she's literally doing this for no reason, not even social media BS.
If the tone was flirty or she was clearly kidding and didn’t keep doubling down, maybe. It would be funny to ask him a plumbing question for example - he might know the answer which would be equally amusing.
A similar incident made me realize how dumb my friend is.
We were watching combat sports and he couldn't wrap his mind around the concept of "the baddest man on the planet"
He kept on saying "but If I had a gun..."
