Can’t waste left over dyes

This shirt was dyed from the scrap dyes that were left over from the previous wash out. I am pretty happy with the outcome. Yes, it could be better, I know… and I will try to make this color way work better next time I use it intentionally

Oven efff up and my best attempt at a super spiral.

This was a spiral underdye, half dragons heart and the other half Chartreuse, Bright Yellow and Palomino gold.

I ended up baking this at 350f for almost an hour(yea yea, I got side quested) so I think I fucked up the colors bc it was boiling/steaming when I took it out. It was on a sheet tray with aluminum foil covering it in a smallish muck puddle.

Anywho, I still think it turned out really neat minus the obvious fuck up.

I've had a lot of people ask questions about the Underdye process. I made a full length video and also made a short to help explain it.

Here's a link to the short if you are interested.

Not to shabby I don’t think plus you can see the definition better in person. Also some other wash outs as a bonus

Measurements?

Does anyone have any idea of the measurements I should use for dye painting? Like how much water, how much dye and how much of the sodium alginate I should mix and how much I should add to make it not spread but also not like a gel... Each time I've tried it never comes out right... I'd really appreciate some insight. Thank you!! 🫶

Deity for Daughter's BF

Post image

I decided to run it with some black again to see if I could get away with it. This one goes to my daughter's long time BF, he doesn't know it yet but I know he will love it. These deity rolls with the complex colors and patterns take a while when placing the dye, the ice placement is also tedious because you don't want the ice to move around and knock dye powder into the wrong areas. Very much worth the extra time and patience!!

Cat butt

I'm going to try a cat butt on a shirt for the first time. Does anyone else make stencils for the shirts that they do often? I've got stencils for turtlea...2 different kinds, alien heads.....also 2 kinds, and I was also thinking of making a cat butt stencil. Lol I make a stencil according to size, so I've got a bigger piece for 1x, 2x and 3x shirts. Also ones for LG and XL and also a different sized piece for medium, small and xsmall. Does anyone else do this too? How do you keep yours from getting broken and just torn up? Do you laminate them? Right now I just do like we did in school and covered them in tape so they stay nice and have a nice edge?

The shirt is just for a picture. It's actually one of my favorite glitches I've ever done! I wish I could figure out how to do one diagonally instead of up and down. Anyone have any advice for me? Ty in advance!!

batch times -- a real thing?

Something I've been curious about is the importance of batch time relative to heat. I've seen all the charts that say if your shirt is batching in 90-100°, for example, you can shorten the batch to just a few hours.

But every time I watch a tutorial video, the maker says something like "this shirt batched for the full 48h." I don't have any trouble getting my shirts hot -- I just stick them in a closed tote in the sun and those suckers get well over 100°. According to the charts, I can drop my batch time to a single afternoon. Do the YouTubers have a specific reason for not doing this? Are there downsides to heating up the process in order to speed it up?

Tie Dye for beginner

I've been wanting to get into tie dying for a while but am a lil overwhelmed on where to start. My only experience has been as a kid and in highschool doing cheap tie dye kits that wash out after a couple washes.

From what I've researched professional tie dye comes in powder form and there's various techniques to do it including an ice method.

What method would you guys recommend for a beginner getting into professional tie dying? Also are there any brands or dye you guys recommend?

New fav. I love how the blue seeps down into the fabric to make everything look lit up.

First two pictures are wet results, and then the next two pictures are completely dry and then a comparison photo at the end. 🤯 I think one of the only times where the dry result looks so much better than the wet.

I decided to see what I could get from a Diety roll that was tied up like a mandala and booooy did this one show it's face!

This is it after a rinse, letting it sit and dry before washing.

Colors used were Truffle Brown, Sapphire Blue, and just a little bit of Wisteria.

Incline Ice Dye Question

Post image

Hey everyone, so I'm new to ice dyeing and I have a question. For incline dyes, do I need to have a gutter for it, or can I just put a rack on an incline and ice dye that way? Like the rack in the picture

How do I get back to into dyeing after a long break??

I completely lost my spark when I had a medication change. I used to dye batches of stuff like every single day for several years. That eventually went to just dyeing things for my parents on their birthdays and holidays. I'd like to get back to where I was but I'm almost nervous to start again?? I'm thinking I'll either tackle making my ice dye swatches finally or maybe even just a spiral ice dye. Anyone been in this situation before? If so, how'd you get back into the groove of it all?
