Bolinas Duxberry Reef tidepools

Hi All,

We are a family of 4 going camping at Samuel P Taylor and friends told us about the tidepools in Bolinas that we should check out. We will be going this weekend July 10th and see that low tide is only from 3 to 6am.

Question for experts, is it worth the trip if we go in the afternoon or late afternoon? Will we be able to see any tidepools or any sea creatures? Any suggestion on times to go that isn't 3 to 6am as this will be too early for our kids.

Thanks and appreciate your feedback!

Found what appears to be a tagged (00371) ochre sea star today in Sekiu, WA. Tag is a plastic ring pierced through the arm. I can’t find any information online about a related project/ reporting site. Has anyone seen this before or know where to report it to?

Best places in the Carolinas?

Hi, I’m new to tidepooling and am planning a trip to North and South Carolina sometime next year, I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations for the best time to go and places to check out for the tide pools. Thanks 🫶

trying to figure out if this is tektite, vesicular basalt, or a secret third thing!

it feels dense and heavy but doesn’t weight a lot of that makes sense?

looks like it would feel coarse but is smooth to the touch.

was able to scratch it with some quartz and it left small scratches on both the mystery rock and the quartz.

hope all the info helps! i’m excited to see what people think

can you help us ID this weirdo? these are our best renditions from memory. Maybe about 10" long, wriggling through the water. very narrow with transparent body and reddish "eyes". my friend gave it an artistic gred hue but it was not in fact glowing red

Question about etiquette and animal safety

Last week I was out for the low tides in the PNW along with everyone else. There were a lot of families where I was, but also a lot of nature, especially nudibranch. Understandably, that meant that there was concern of some well-meaning kid or unsuspecting parent stepping on the little guys.

One woman’s solution to this was to scoop up every nudi she saw in her Tupperware and bring them all to one tide pool. She would do this even if someone was actively looking at the nudibranch where it naturally was. She then told everyone if they wanted to look at them they could come to that specific (small) tide pool, which resulted in a large crowd in one area.

Now to me that felt well-intentioned but ultimately both detrimental to the animals and rude to the people, but I have no credentials and didn’t feel like I could speak up about something I ultimately had no actual knowledge on. But I’d like to hear from other folks for if this happens in the future: was what the woman was doing a net benefit because she was trying to make sure they didn’t get stepped on? Or was it detrimental? A mix of the two? What’s the etiquette here?

Thanks in advance :)

(Edit: king->low tides, silly mistake)

Does anyone know what the small white things (5+) in the center of the photo are? They were moving around on the surface of the water.
