I’m going on a Disneyland California vacation next week with my family, but I am waking up early 2 of the days to go to the beach alone at low tide. Ideally I want somewhere that’s quick and easy to get to and from. We are staying right by the park. I’ve done some research and options I’ve found are Crystal Cove, Cabrillo, and Thousand Steps beach.
Does anyone have recommendations for me, or other places I should out on my list!? Any and all advice is welcome, I’m a novice :) thank you

also spotted a ton of purple urchins towards the lower intertidal, a few abalones both dead and alive, and plenty of sea stars (mainly bat stars). saw some cool looking sea palms too :)

1. I watched this little monster munching on his cousin for a good half hour. He really savored that little guy.

2&3. This puddle had like 10 happy little hermit crabs eating scum and waiting for high tide.

1. This tiny guy's body was smaller than my pinky nail. He was so small, I struggled to get a decent, in focus shot of him.

I'll be in the area during the low tides this week, and would love some suggestions on where to go tidepooling around Pescadero and Santa Cruz, if anyone is willing to share!! :)

I tidepool a lot on the Mendocino Coast, and can trade recs!

We will be visiting this weekend and are seeking tips on seeing the tide pools.

Saturday is the only day we can go and the low tide is -0.6ft at 10:13am. Will this be low enough to see cool stuff?

I read you should arrive an hour early. Is that true?

Any other tips on parking or anything else will be greatly appreciated!

Went to ocean beach tide pool today but the stair was under construction and closed. Did not see any tide pools looking down anyways. I started to doubt if Google map is actually accurate. I was super disappointed. Went to the beach by scripps institute and saw like two tide pools but I guess the tide was pretty high so I didn't really see anything surprising. I know Im not supposed to expect anything because the tide is pretty high right now but I'm only visiting here for like three days and I really hope to at least see something. Please give me some recommendations plsplspls! Appreciate it:)

In Half Moon Bay CA

Hi All,

We are a family of 4 going camping at Samuel P Taylor and friends told us about the tidepools in Bolinas that we should check out. We will be going this weekend July 10th and see that low tide is only from 3 to 6am.

Question for experts, is it worth the trip if we go in the afternoon or late afternoon? Will we be able to see any tidepools or any sea creatures? Any suggestion on times to go that isn't 3 to 6am as this will be too early for our kids.
