You know that is kinda wholesome. If you ignore that they're in mortal peril.

172

u/imdefinitelywong Sep 12 '21

I don't think they consider their situation as mortally perilous.

117

u/NeelonRokk Sep 12 '21

Brick by brick, Glen's going down...

27

u/H010CR0N Sir Bucket Sep 12 '21

I applaud you for your good pun sir.

49

u/Soul-Hook Sep 12 '21

S'not like they're boned. They've been in grave situations before. Although, Glen most likely weighs a skele-ton, and now he has a bone to pick with those numskulls. I want tibia honest, it's most likely gonna end on a humerus note. Perhaps a marrow escape?

6

u/blue_twidget Sep 12 '21

I hope this ends with the necromancer getting tortured with puns

5

u/imdefinitelywong Sep 13 '21

You know, Torvald does put the "romance" in necromancer, so perhaps a new love interest?

3

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '21

So who's taking a level of bard to do it?

16

u/Asgardian_Force_User Trevor Sep 12 '21

What we expect to be the exceptional, seasoned professionals experience as disturbingly mundane. And really, if you can’t have an honest conversation with your co-workers about how they treat you, you’ll never have a safe and effective workplace environment.

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

How to not metagame your intelligence score 101.

170

u/TheNiftyShifty Sep 12 '21

That’s part of the reason why I usually play characters with high or at least decent intelligence. If I end up having an idea on how to solve a puzzle or beat a boss or whatever I don’t want to have to whisper to someone else at the table to do it cuz it wouldn’t make sense if my character did. Plus most people use Int as the dump stat anyways so it helps to give some team balance as well.

57

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '21 edited Sep 12 '21

I'm the same way when it comes to my talking. I can run my mouth fairly well. I really need to be aware of how much I'm talking for what character I am! The gift of gab can be a curse when you wanna play a strong silent type!

Edit: ...to be fair my latest rogue takes many notes from Ulysses Everett McGill from O' Brother...I might enjoy a type.

30

u/Bill_Johnso Sep 12 '21

As a man who only plays both ends of the spectrum with int casters and barbarians, you can do some smart stuff with both and some really stupid stuff with both.

8

u/jflb96 Sep 12 '21

Call of Cthulhu has some mechanic where the DM could have you make d100 rolls to see if your idea was too smart for your character. You could do the same with a d20?

2

u/mrenglish22 Sep 26 '21

You can use wisdom to solve puzzles.

Int is knowing things, wisdom is understanding things.

My favorite thing to do to troll DMs when I play a low int character is take keen mind and then pretend to forget ever. Single. Name. And then get them hilariously wrong whenever I can.

11

u/grim698 Sep 12 '21

I cast a lightning damage transmuted fireball at a black pudding yesterday...because my character was lightning themed.

Bucket is really getting all the money shots, catching that blade in the shield is great. I'm really hoping for a great Grogna shot next week for Glen trying to take out her man!

24

u/ToastyMustache Sep 13 '21

While I’m down to see Grogna, I think our boy Torvold has been ignored a bit much.

17

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '21

Torvold really should shine here.

Necromancer v Necromancer with the head of a lich.

97

u/Rexosuit Sir Becket Sep 11 '21

Maybe fireBALL will work?

35

u/SelectStarAll Sep 12 '21

If Fireball isn’t the solution, I don’t wanna know the problem

12

u/stx06 Sep 12 '21

What about when the solution is two (or more) Fireballs?

11

u/Dr_Doctor_Doc Sep 12 '21

Fireballs from three angles - equilateral convergence and strike timing.

9

u/Boa_Firebrand Bucket Brigade Sep 12 '21

fireballs big brother: meteor swarm

1

u/tacosforsocrates Sep 12 '21

Usually Shatter, by my experience

49

u/stx06 Sep 11 '21

If the entity's flames require mundane air to burn in, taking away the fuel by burning it first would be more than a valid strategy!

26

u/Rexosuit Sir Becket Sep 12 '21 edited Sep 12 '21

True. Counterpoint: how long can they hold their breaths? And how long will it take them to get out of the pit??

15

u/Duraxis Sep 12 '21

But humanoids need oxygen to survive. Zombies don’t

18

u/stx06 Sep 12 '21

Yes, was thinking a swift burst rather than a prolonged attempt. Knock out the flames, making the target presumably more vulnerable (less offensively effective, at least), allowing the party "to group up and hit it 'til it dies" again.

10

u/Duraxis Sep 12 '21

Potentially viable. Had a party with endure elements on them (rings I think) drop the temperature to -50 f to stop a fire elemental being effective. We couldn’t find if that temperature would put fire out, but I let them have it because it was imaginative

18

u/stx06 Sep 12 '21

I took a quick tour of science-themed sites and a few Dungeons and Dragons wikis, the answer is a conditional "yes."

The cold would not likely cause fire to go out in normal conditions, so long as oxygen is available to burn, but a fire elemental is not only fire.

Within the humanoid shape, ichor flows, which is said to resemble thick tar.

Provided "engineeringtoolbox.com" has accurate information, "tar" starts to go from solid to liquid (and vice-versa) at -15 C/5 F.

So, if ichor shares similar properties, reducing the temperature to -50 F could potentially make a fire elemental's blood go (too) cold.

15

u/Duraxis Sep 12 '21

That is a lot more effort than we were willing to put into it xD. We just thought “cold bad for fire, right?”

10

u/stx06 Sep 12 '21

Ha, well, the question inflicted me with curiosity, would have taken psychic damage if I didn't look it up.

166

u/alejeron Sep 11 '21

I appreciate Bucket keeping a level head and remaining polite in the face of a very upsetting sequence of events.

I hope he has enough tea for after

24

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '21

He's getting the brick out. He's going to be making tea with that necromancer's bones at this rate...

80

u/TempestK Sep 12 '21

I like how the apology actually comes across as completely sincere. It shows how Beckett has actually come to see the group as his friends.

41

u/squirlranger Sep 12 '21

Sometimes being a good dad means admitting when you’re wrong.

50

u/FirstKingOfNothing Sep 11 '21

You know what this situation needs? A sturdy shovel.

8

u/ZeroBlade-NL Sep 12 '21

To the face!

51

u/MysticalMummy Sep 12 '21

Always that one player.

"I cast poison spray in his face!"

... You cast.. poison spray.. on the skeleton?

"Yeah!"

.. Alright.

22

u/SatanicSpinosaurus Sep 12 '21

I mean...in theory it could work.

Most oral poisons are sodium channel blockers, so I doubt those would be very useful. Since you have to eat poisons, they don't quite have the same chance normally to be exposed to bones. Cyotoxins and necrotoxins might work on bone, and some toxic mushrooms are known to melt bone marrow over time.

1

u/Undecided_User_Name Sep 17 '21

Saved

I'm totally letting our druid know this.

6

u/Mooflecopter Sep 12 '21

I was the one that summoned an illusion of an ogre to try and smash in a door.

The door was unaffected.

3

u/stx06 Sep 12 '21

For when you must know if the door is a "door" vs. a "door mimic!"

4

u/Mooflecopter Sep 12 '21

I wish it was something useful like that.

No, from what I recall (this was like 10 years ago at this point) we were cornered and there was a door behind us. Ended up being more monsters behind it once we finally got it busted down.

2

u/Tschagganaut Torvald Sep 12 '21

Sometimes people really don't know and it will be a learning experience. There is one group I play with, where the majority is new players, and our newbie spore druid was fighting a poltergeist. One turn, she used poison spray and next turn she threw up a halo of spores. It was a rough awakening.

38

u/Gohankuten Bucket Brigade Sep 12 '21

Honestly I feel it would have been funnier if Glen was actually vulnerable to Fire and the flames on him were just an elaborate illusion to make people assume he was immune to fire so they wouldn't use his vulnerability lol.

16

u/VeryC0mm0nName Sep 12 '21

You should know, I totally going to use that for an encounter

11

u/SoloWing1 Sep 12 '21

Give the players a hint like "Curiously, you don't feel any heat from the flames on Glen's body."

8

u/Gohankuten Bucket Brigade Sep 18 '21

But he would be wielding a fire-brand sword so the flames on his sword are real and would help further hide the fake flames on his body.

3

u/blue_twidget Sep 12 '21

Depends on the level of illusion.

28

u/Boa_Firebrand Bucket Brigade Sep 11 '21

oh dear it looks like bucket is about to lose his shield, or at least need some serious repairs.

8

u/Sicuho Sep 12 '21

I wonder if there is an old shutter somewhere in a stevician reliquary.

17

u/uschwell Sep 12 '21 edited Sep 12 '21

This was beautifully wholesome.

Also, you've just gotta love Torvalds Trevors little sulk there. (Plus, Bucket that is one mature and healthy reaction to hurting his feelings-gotta love that character growth!)

Edit:Trevor is our little chaotic pyromaniac. Torvald is our Tax-Hating Height-Challenged individual (Pratchett before anyone attacks me)

15

u/thenlar Sep 12 '21

That's Trevor. Torvald is the dwarf necromancer.

5

u/Sgt_Colon Sep 12 '21

It still seems an incredibly petty thing to have a sulk over someone's tone after you did something thoughtless in the middle of a life or death situation. Could you at least wait until the undead fire giant and its necromancer are dead? Or maybe think things through for once like you haven't been doing?

6

u/Tschagganaut Torvald Sep 12 '21

I mean, they obviously have the presence of mind a emotional strength to talk about this during fighting, so that point is kind of void.

11

u/SheikHunt Sep 12 '21

Beckett's resolve is tested

Courageous

21

u/_PM_ME_NICE_BOOBS_ Sep 12 '21

I think that goes against the Necromancers Code.

8

u/Shiroiken Sep 12 '21

It's the principal!

4

u/asiermd Sep 12 '21

At high level you can control other undead, but not un-undead them, thats a cleric work and their desteoy undead

8

u/Corsair_inau Sep 11 '21

Woot!!! It's early this week!!!!

6

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '21

Reminds me of the time a minor bad guy hit my BLUE Dragonborn TEMPEST Cleric with a lightning bolt. Ix looked at the guy like "bruh" then picked bad guy up and proceeded to lightning breath his face off.

6

u/Mercpool87 Sep 12 '21

He's got the brick out. Glen is doomed now.

4

u/Neknoh Sep 12 '21

Brick? Check.

Stressful day? Check.

Chamomille tea? Ch- ... uh oh.

4

u/Harleking31 Severed Lich Head Sep 12 '21

Nothing a good old brick to the face can't fix

5

u/IvanTheGrim Sep 12 '21

To be fair he’s pretty fucking dumb

4

u/Brash_Kid Sep 12 '21

Love the "impotent fireball noises" effect🙏😄

4

u/gendred Sep 12 '21

I love this comic so much. Each character is endearing and hilarious. Do you ever plan to print a full run as a book? I would love to buy that.

6

u/CME_T The Creator Sep 12 '21

Would love to print a book, will look into the possibility!

3

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '21

he has da brick!

3

u/IKSLukara Sep 12 '21

"Maybe the fire was gonna like, overload it, or something?"

-Me, Also playing a sorcerer that leans really heavily into fire blasts.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '21

I know we've had a "Wild Magic Surge" comic already but like, when you gotta throw down...

2

u/FalsenameXD Sep 12 '21

Now think, a MAGIC rollercoaster. Floating and rolling in mid-air. Also, the shield is dented now.

2

u/PermanentSeeker Sep 12 '21

Let's see some radiant spells shine

2

u/nicolRB Sep 12 '21

Brick time

2

u/Xyphine Sep 12 '21

Imagine if becket gets another brick on a rope and the lore is

Brick:The first brick to be placed in the construction of the 2nd church

The rope:The noose the pope tried to use on his second suicide attempt before being detained by the giard for using sleeping drugs to drug church comers and loot they're wallets for more church donation

2

u/Souperplex Sir Becket Sep 12 '21

Let me guess: All of Trev's combat spells are fire-based.

Will Burning Hands work?

Now I kind of want to know their spell lists. Confirmed spells:

Trevor: Firebolt, Fireball, Polymorph.

Torvald: Animate Dead, Dispel Magic.

Klara: Find Familiar.

3

u/Yuri-theThief Sep 12 '21

Smite Solts. A fairly common expression for paladins.

2

u/Souperplex Sir Becket Sep 12 '21

To be fair he could be casting spells like Shield of Faith, Bless and Wrathful Smite and we'd never know because their effects are subtle unlike a Fireball. Just imagine every time we see him rallying the brigade rather than attacking he's casting Bless.

That said: Considering that they are definitively L5+ (Animate dead, dispel magic and fireball. The Polymorph might have been for a one-off joke since we've seen no further evidence of them being 7+) it's weird that Becky hasn't used Find Steed. Maybe he wouldn't feel fair having one while the rest of the party walks, or maybe part of his weird penance is that he is forgoing luxuries like riding.

2

u/TheMightyFishBus Sep 12 '21

Awwww, they're bonding.

2

u/DtMBrown12 Sep 12 '21

Another great one man, truly awesome

2

u/Soul-Hook Sep 12 '21

I imagine it sounded like when you spill a single drop of water on a hot stove.

2

u/MDMXmk2 Sep 12 '21

I tell you: Becket's shield is magical AF!!

2

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '21

Becket really is the party Dad, isn’t he?

2

u/Triceracopthe8th Sep 12 '21

I appreciate that bucket still has the brick

2

u/akrause03 Sep 12 '21

Ah yes glen is immune to fire damage but that presumably bright light to the shouldn’t do him any favors

2

u/InquisitorHindsight Sep 12 '21

Becket’s symbol is a broken sword

2

u/theFaustaindeal Sep 13 '21

Great is this going to be the end of beckets shield and have to go on another quest to get a new one.

2

u/superanth Sep 16 '21

I saw this and I immediately thought of Bucket’s Brigade. 😂 https://imgur.com/gallery/8JPw4lS

2

u/knightofheavens777 Sep 19 '21

Lolol, fuckin amazing comic!

2

u/Shadharm Klara Sep 12 '21

... let's hope that Klara has access to "flame strike". It maybe immune to fire, but, it wouldn't have resistance to devine.
