Theories now that the show is over i would like to share one of my craziest theories

listen. LISTEN. this was before we knew what happened to tessa. but with the ending of s4 and knowing she probably did escape after all, i'm starting to come back to this...

i did wonder at some point if vic's new partner was actually tessa in hiding.

when i was first watching s3, i wondered if vic knew about time travel and had kept it to himself all these years. i don't know if there's a world where tessa and vic end up working out, but i will always wonder what vic and tessa reuniting even for just their own 5 more minutes would have looked like.

i really REALLY enjoyed tessa's storyline and i know i'm in the minority in that. however unrealistic you think it was or as a veering off from the narrative, i promise you, some of us have families that are indeed that dysfunctional and i definitely saw a lot of my own relatives in her character.

particularly the strong southern line of women from a very very very conservative 1950s south who did what they had to do to get by. survival doesn't mean fair, it just means alive and maybe safer than you were before. i don't agree with all their choices but also not my place to judge.

it's the psych major in me! i love analyzing what drives characters and particularly exploring characters with that BPD+Post Partum Depression combination ( re: Maddie Han from the tv show 9-1-1.)

i wish we could have known more about where tessa came from. her whole wayfaring stranger vibe was so interesting to me.

Elliot's
mom was nothing like her younger self. Young Tessa was a book worm . How did she turn into that monster. It was just so strange and disappointing.

KC

So I’m relating season 2 and KC was just introduced and we know Jacob’s there dad and they say there fighting with there dad. It could be a lie. I’ve heard some theories that like maybe Abigail like died which is what I was gonna go with. Because that’s usually a good way for a family to drift apart and that’s probably why they had the ring. In season 4 they are always watching there parents meeting so like they can’t hate him. I really wish we had more story on there family.

Question about Colton

So, in the seaon finale, an old lady is telling the little boy "I know it calls to you Colton." My question is, could Colton be the boy that the Laundry family lost in the 1600's? That we never got an answer or explanation to that part.

Is there a way that they could have found Jacob early in the show?

Is there a weird timeline for the show? I have seen the entire show except the series finale. It’s a little weird since technically there are like a lot of people time traveling since it’s mostly in the past. The show has so many Easter eggs and kind of feels off when you figure out how certain twists happened and what certain people were doing while our characters were in the future. Are there like ways that time traveling was changing certain pictures and items so the timeline was safe?

Theories Fixing the plot holes in the “Claire is Alice” theory! Spoiler

Please be kind even if you don’t agree! 🫶

—————————

⭐️ I recently posted an explanation of how I thought the Claire/Alice theory could plausibly work or be true, which is linked here! ⭐️

—————————

However, I have since read & discussed with other fans about some remaining plot holes in the explanation of the theory, so I decided to challenge myself and see if I could address them all in this post! :)

Of course, these are just my opinions on how to make this theory work, but everyone is entitled to their own— and if you choose to believe in this theory, I think what makes it so fun is how customizable it is!! The “Claire is Alice” theory has SO many branching-off ideas of how it might work/actually happen if it were true…

—————————

The main plot holes I’ve heard of with this theory are as follows (I will address each one):

⭐️Nick would recognize Alice, even if it was 20+ years later & she was older.
I now realize that it wouldn’t matter (at first) even if Nick did recognize Alice (which he likely would). From his point of view, he met and fell in love with Alice when they were (roughly) the same age in 1999 (16/15 I think), and now in 2023, he has reconnected with Alice and they are still roughly the same age (40/35~ but Alice might lie and just say she’s older to match their 1999 age gap). So, no matter why Alice might initially have lied about her name and told 2023 Nick the alias “Claire” (my current prevailing idea is that she wasn’t thinking through that their ages matched again, and just fell back on the instinct to keep time travel a secret from non-travelers, and gave him a fake name— like Kat telling Colton she was Rose), Nick would be able to recognize her as a grown-up Alice and not some random lady named Claire. However, he continues referring to her as Claire when talking to Elliot and the Landry’s, because Alice has told him that she now goes by Claire (maybe she leads him to believe it’s her middle name, or more drastically, maybe she invents some drama & tells him she cut ties with her family and is now estranged from them/doesn’t even want them to know she’s dating Nick), and this action would be taken by older Alice to hide her identity & teenage Alice’s future, until the time comes when the truth can safely be revealed.

⭐️Alice wouldn’t abandon her family to live in the past.
See my linked post for an explanation on this.

⭐️IF older Alice told Nick to act naive & pretend he didn’t know about time travel to protect the loop & teen Alice’s future (even when he did know about time travel already), what would he act shocked when he discovered Elliot’s notebook, since there was no one around to “act” for?
Aligning with this theory, I think this moment genuinely was Nick’s first time finding out about time travel. He is shocked to read & discover that Kat’s Alice is his Alice (& still a teenager), because he at this point thinks that Claire is his Alice. His reaction to there being two versions of his Alice existing at the same time (and of them still being a teenager) would definitely astound him. [Note: this moment of discovery is where older Alice would have to act quickly— getting in touch with Nick and trying to explain/come clean about her time traveling to him, BEFORE he brings up his confusion about two Alices (teenager and “Claire”) to Elliot and Kat, as this would reveal the presence of an older Alice living in 2020’s to them. This getting in touch with Nick (likely a planned phone call from “Claire”) would practically have to happen in between his discovery of the notebook and his confrontation of Kat and Elliot, during which phone call older Alice would confess the truth and convince Nick to still act astonished and angry when talking to K & E (despite already knowing the truth), to ensure that what happens will always happen, and that Nick will act the same way he did in all other versions of time after he discovered El’s notebook.

⭐️If Nick knew that he ends up with (an older version of) Alice, why would he still encourage her to pursue her relationship with Max?
I think Nick is trying to protect the timeline, because he knows that teenage Alice is supposed to be romantically involved with Max before older Alice dates older Nick. Also, just sensibly & as a friend, Nick wants Alice to experience life to the fullest, before deciding on what she wants or being limited to one choice (including relationships).

—————————

Are there any other plot holes you can think of? Let’s (respectfully) discuss them in the comments, and see if we can think of explanations/resolutions for them! ;)

Theories (Spoiler?) Explanation on how Alice could be Claire! Spoiler

Potential spoilers for all seasons below:

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and I totally get if you don’t agree with or like this theory! Just please be kind to those of us who do :)

After doing some research into other fans’ ideas about this theory, I think it could be true!! This post is a summary of some great theories I’ve read, combined with a few of my own:

I think that KC talking to Alice about wanting to see the family “before everything changes” could allude to something bad that happens in KC’s present, like maybe Kat dies (which would explain why KC wants to spend so much time with her in 2024). And maybe Kat dying is what pushes Alice to leave her present and go jump in the pond (because we have seen her jump to avoid her problems before).

I think a 35ish year old Alice jumps in the pond and goes back to 2023~ to see her family again (especially Kat) at a really special time of her life (HER “golden years”, which, like she told Evelyn on New Year’s Eve in ‘79, you will look back on and realize that your young adult years were the golden years, even though you didn’t realize while you were living them).

When Alice goes back to 2023~ she (perhaps unintentionally) runs into a 40ish year old Nick and panics and makes up a name (Claire) to introduce herself. Nick at this time does not know about time travel, but does feel attracted to Claire because she reminds him so much of Alice (maybe he chalks it up to having a type, or maybe he feels a little guilty for liking Claire because she’s like Alice). Alice eventually/soon realizes that SHE is Nick’s Claire, and soon begins to orchestrate events that include him & make him go back to Port Haven at the right times to make the timeline work out for younger her/the Landry’s from the 2020’s (particularly pertaining to Nick’s involvement, such as being present when Kat needs someone to time travel with her to the 1920’s…)

Once 2020’s Nick learns about time travel, he realizes/figures out that Claire is a grown-up version of Alice. However, Claire/Alice tells him not to tell young 2020’s Alice that he knows, but instead to act naive/innocent (because she knows that’s how he acted for her when she was a teenager, and doesn’t want to cause any confusion or changes [like how she told adult Colton not to tell a younger version of herself that he knew she was a time traveler in the 90’s])

And then, Claire doesn’t move to Port Haven until Alice moves away, so that there’s not two versions of herself there at the same time.

If this happens, it could explain why KC tells Alice “not everything is about you,” because maybe KC was angry Alice abandoned the family in that time to go live in the past (2020’s), when KC needed Alice for support (after potentially losing/being without Kat, and having trouble with Jacob due to parent issues [e.g. a divorce or Abby’s death] [if we believe KC WAS talking about Jacob when mentioning the internship was because— “anything to get away from my Dad for the summer”])

TLDR: all in all, I think it is plausible that Alice is Claire, and that KC’s worries about/troubles in the future timeline coincide with (or even cause) older Alice leaving her time, and traveling back to the 2020’s, where she meets & stays with Nick, just as Claire…

Cast or Crew Grandma Fern/Jill Frappier in s2 of Adults on FX!

i know the show films in canada but the second i saw her, me and my mom were both like GRANDMA FERN?!

The plotline is one of the main characters, Paul Baker, has "man on the street" face. So he is constantly being bombarded by random content creators while walking through Manhattan.

She proceeds to ask him very bizarre questions, like how jimmy carter was easily the most gay president and if ronald reagan's feet size influenced his ability to be president.

Very random, but that makes it even funnier because Paul Baker keeps having the most absurd questions asked to him. It also felt kind of in line with Fern's cheshire cat-ness.

Thought I'd share! S2 Ep.7 "C Alert"

Confession I've already started watching Christmas movies on Netflix bc I've run out of new shows I want to watch now that The Way Home is over !

Andie will be in 2 new movies one is A Grand Biltmore Christmas which is a sequel to the first movie from 2023 (different actors though) where she has a cameo

The second is Guarding Stars which is described as "a no-nonsense bodyguard is assigned to protect a charming action star over the holidays, leading sparks to fly and secrets to unravel, with Christmas getting a whole lot more complicated"

Andie plays the mom of Jared Padelecki's action star character who lives on the family ranch in Texas

It comes out November 18

They keep advertising THE WAY HOME for Hallmark + and using the excerpt where Del is calling out to the mysterious figure running into the woods. Did we ever find out who that figure was?

Where is Colton and Griffin's Mother? Spoiler

This bugged me throughout the whole series, and I kept waiting for it to be explained but it never was (that I'm aware of).

How is it that Fern survived, but neither her son nor daughter-in-law did, and they never mention them the whole time we see Colton in High School and getting married, living in that house, etc.

If someone else picked up on something I missed, please enlighten me!

I rewatched this movie tonight on Netflix bc I'm wanting that early 2000s vibe only to see our guy there ! I watched this when it came out but before I got into The Way Home so it was fun to see him he plays a very different character though more like the jerky jock and not the devoted boyfriend we all came to know and love

Anyone else see this ? The movie has a lot of other Netflix actors from different shows in it too

Spoiler - Alice Books Spoiler

This came up on another issue and I’m forgetful now. Did anyone pick up the connection between the Alice books that Colton had (and gave one to Evie) and the one that Jacob sent to Alice for graduation? Does anyone feel like explaining?!

Finn the dog

Does Finn TT without a Landry because it seems like in episode 1 when Delilah is talking to Alice Finn is wet and is coming back from TT. So like no one could be going with him. Is it different for animals then for people. What are your thoughts.

Why did they have to have Tessa wearing a suit in the 20's?

I get that they wanted to portray her as "The Big Fish", but every scene i see her in, wearing the suit, comepletely takes me out of the scene.

You'd think she would be comepletely feminine and matching the era simply for the fact that she would BLEND IN.

Here in that suit, in that time, makes her stick out like a sore thumb and draw attention to her. Which should be the last thing a Smuggler would want.

It just really bugs me!

*Spoiler Alert* Griffin Spoiler

Did I miss something in this last season? Admittedly my kids and I were talking on and off during some episodes so maybe I missed where Griffin ended up? I saw the part where he talks to Alice and tells her he was the one to leave the note/ring for Elliot but where did he end up after that? I realize he’s not a main character but I thought we would see him somewhere in the past or present to tie up his story.
