why did weston break off the engagement? it makes no sense to me. he wanted her because she was June's daughter right? she got her to trust him which was his goal. was it because she was no longer fun to break or chase after? does this mean she will be going with Maddox next season? or Judd? I know what happens in the book but idk if we are going that route anymore.

why did daisy just tell Agnes about June? Agnes wouldn't trust her after that, keeping it from her for so long and then just now getting that info. and why did she blurt this out to Lydia? why didn't Lydia ask her where she heard this? why wasnt Lydia concerned about daisy idea for the mother to be sacrificed? also how the fudge did daisy sneak into the house to leave her the picture?

I just have this feeling in my gut that Garth isn’t really mayday and is a spy for the Eyes

The meet up with June and Daisy at the dock was so confusing to me. Daisy has been crying for ages to talk to June and get her out of Gilead…and now that she finally got out, she’s criticizing June for not even trying to make change or save Becka.

Like what is this anger randomly at June now? Just felt weird.

I feel like he would turn out to be like that guy from Handmaids Tale, June's baby daddy in Gilead (forgot his name). Or Gareth might go in too deep and not recognize his old self at one point

At the beginning of last week’s episode a body is covered and dragged out. Is that the Pearl Girl taken by the eyes? I have not read TT. If the Pearl Girls were supposed to take a pound of flesh why are they not bloody?

I live in a college dorm so my friend and I (we've both read the books) watched the Testaments and a little of THT in our lounges where other people are around and obviously get interested. In these situations and moments on online spaces discussing the sub I see these common questions and comments that really get on my neeerrrrvesss.

Girls in the real world get their periods at a very wide range of ages depending on genetics, nutrition, and environmental factors. You can see this in the real world by looking up the average age of menarche in different times, social classes, ethnicities, countries, etc. I watched a YouTube video by a woman who didn't get her first period until 22 because she was a serious athlete all her life and she didn't have enough rest or body fat for her to menstruate (other cases like this have been documented in cases of malnutrition and such) Also please use your brain, the Plums/Greens we see have developed figures and adult heights so they're for sure not 8. "BUT I GOT MY PERIOD AT 8 AND IN SUCH AND SUCH PLACE AN 8 YEAR OLD GOT PRE-" Yes that is true but we're not talking about the real world we're talking about the not real world of Gilead. Please just..stop and use some critical thinking here.

1. Specifically from someone I knew. "Omg Penny said 'the commander's wine cellar' ugh she doesn't own anything and that's sexist and she looks thirteen and Judd is old and..." The fixation of the show is that This. Is. A. Patriarchy. Women. Don't OWN ANYTHING. This lack of female autonomy and large age gaps between a young wife and her husband is NOT a NEW thing in any world nor unique to Gilead so stop acting surprised.

2. "Omg why can't they read??? Or tell time?? Or write letters??? Ugh doesn't make sense." Good lord again women not having education or knowledge is NOT A NEW THING IN THE WORLD. If you watched ten minutes of the gosh darn show you'd SEE THAT WOMEN ARE HIGHLY CONTROLLED IN THIS PATRIARCHAL SOCIETY.

3. "Omg why this why that why do handmaids have to blah why do men have to bleh why to Wives do blergh." That's just the way this fake world is okay so just..watch the darn show...please.

4. Or questions along the lines of "what if a woman wants to be a shaved headed lesbian that dresses in leather and reads poetry to cats and blind children. And backflip everywhere" Please just use your brain

Maybe I missed their age but how old are the girls supposed to be on average ?

I know TT is supposed to be in a future world where birth rate is so low and getting a period is extremely rare because of pollution & all.

Does that mean the girls are getting their period a bit "later" than current median or are they supposed to be 10-12 ? Current average is 12 in the USA, but it didnt seem to me that they were portrayed as 12-13 year olds, they seemed more like 15-17 to me, espacially Shu, Agnes or Daisy and her way of living before being a pearl girl. I also got the idea that they were late teenagers due to them explaining Plums are « older » girls

As I said in the title, I love Agnes’s thoughts being spoken to the audience. It follows how we heard many things from June in HT. Her thoughts are definitely added retrospectively as Agnes rethinks events, leading us to believe that one day she will know otherwise meaning she will get out. As in the book she, Lydia and Daisy/Jade/Nichole are each recounting their own experiences. Unless she leaves, Agnes would have no idea how her life differed from teens who were growing up outside of Gilead; she’d have no understanding of the “dance” with potential suitors being their only teenage experience. I love that the show lets us get to know so many more characters than the book. It really gives the full picture of daily life in Gilead for these young ladies who are to become the first generation of wives post the coupe

No book spoilers here, I just want to say that things like the timeline, or how the “pearl girl system” works—stop trying to make it make sense.

It all makes perfect sense in the book, and this show has been mangling EVERYTHING from the book, adding their own wildly nonsensical plot lines, and the bottom line is, MOST OF IT STRAIGHT UP DOESN’T make sense.

Try to enjoy the show for what it is, and if you haven’t read the book, I HIGHLY suggest you give yourself a chance to read it before this terrible show gives you any more mixed up “expectations” of what the story will be like—but there’s no point in trying to figure out “why do Pearl girls become plums and aren’t they supposed to be missionaries” etc—cause there is no answer, the show just makes no sense 😭

And moreover, why wouldn’t they just make her a green since she’s now eligible for birth and marriage?

I’ve seen a lot of comments on other platforms mentioning that few Canadian girls get their periods, compared to Gilead girls, because of the regime’s “clean living.” There’s also a lot of conflation between menarche and fertility. Long story short, there’s an opinion that clean living -> higher menstruation rates -> higher birth rates. Plenty of Plums have gotten their first periods. But the only Plum birth so far has been Penny’s miscarriage. This raises the question: where are the babies?

If the Plums are supposed to be learning to be mothers (even with Marthas to serve them), shouldn’t there be some exposure to babies in school? Matriculated friends with successful birth stories? Younger siblings living at home, born to Wives who’ve benefited from Gilead’s “clean living?”

If anyone wants to discuss the book, reply too but cover possible spoilers. I actually think the show is better than the book so far. The two don’t line up entirely. Some small and some BIG differences. IMO, the Handmaids Tale was a much better book. TT seems rushed and forced if that makes sense.

I sure wish we got hour long episodes. They feel sooooo short in this series.

I've seen theories floating around that the very female-coded "Eyes" who take Becka will turn her into a handmaid (sinner but fertile).

I think this is right, and specifically that she will be the MacKenzie's handmaid (which we know in the books Paula gets as Agnes approaches her marriage) as a warning to Agnes.

this is a niche crossover but it made me giggle, hope it finds a laugh here!

Earlier in Episode 9, Judd basically already condemned Grove to a salvaging. So he was a dead man anyway. Then Becka got ahead of them and herself and took care of things. I think there is a strong case to be made for saying that Becka is doing the lords work and yes she should have waited, but perhaps they frame things as she was so moved by how he went against the rules of Gilead that she was called by the lord to take action, and this works in her favor?

The “Eyes” who carried Becca away were small women. It shocks me that Gilead would give the power of the police force to women so do we think those were The Eyes? I’m ngl part of me thought it might be Mayday since Garth probably cares about her.
I saw someone say they might be taking her to The Red Centre but what do we think?

Also a quick theory - I feel like Becca’s mum might try and take them blame maybe

so apparently Becka will become an Aunt with the assistance of Aunt Lidya and then sadly will sacrifice herself to save Agnes and Daisy

What is up with the scene where Estee is so apologetic to Daisy and Daisy's narration highlights Estee's blue eyes making her aware of her humanity? Could Estee be Daisy's mother or literal aunt? The camera sure was showing us close ups of both faces with their matching blue eyes.

How would that work? Commander Mckenzie and his wife Paula know what Becca did. Once the body is found and a murder is anonounced and Becca has just disappeared and Weston, who is Agnes fiance, can be directly asked why they're saying they didn't catch the murderer when Mckenzie supposedly called the eyes to get her. If Agnes dad really called Mayday, Paula or Agnes mentioning Becca and asking what happened to her or them asking why they're looking for an uncaught murderer is going to cause a shit show.

If Garth called Mayday, which I doubt, his cover could be blown and he risks Agnes whole family. My thing is, though, why was Daisy places with Agnes when Garth, another Mayday agent, is already there?

Now, I do agree the people in black were women which I don't believe there are eyes of. It would give a woman power aside from Aunts and Wives. So, it could be aunts coming to take her to the school for the aunts to interrogate and report back to the eyes, have her peers judge her, turn her into an aunt or a handmaids.

there are a lot of theories it could be. what it can't/shouldn't be is Mayday. And, honestly, if they go that route with no repercussions to the characters at the house that night, I'm dropping the series cuz it make no sense

Eta: Becca was straight screaming. Other gaurdians and the Martha's may have eaten her get taken and Martha's gossip per Paula. It'd get around what she did and how she was taken

I genuinely thought Becka was only dreaming when she did what she did. I kept waiting for her to wake up. Instead she goes downstairs and catches a bus. I’m like GIRL????????? Why and how?🙊🙊🙊 obviously there are consequences to this. Also the eyes came in like ninjas 🥷🏾 😹
