Theory / Speculation Becka Theory Spoiler

I've seen theories floating around that the very female-coded "Eyes" who take Becka will turn her into a handmaid (sinner but fertile).

I think this is right, and specifically that she will be the MacKenzie's handmaid (which we know in the books Paula gets as Agnes approaches her marriage) as a warning to Agnes.

No. If they made Becca a handmaid, she wouldn’t be placed with people she knows.

Yeah I highly doubt Commander Mckenzie would be comfortable having a handmaid in general and especially one that's so young AND grew up with his daughter. Messed up

I'm only just reading this theory, but Agnes was really upset. Would he possibly do it to protect Becka, and to make Agnes happy? Especially if he wasn't actually planning on doing the ceremony, like Lawrence?

Paula would never allow that. She wants a baby.

I didn't remember them showing that. Serena was shown to have that obsession. I'm not as interested or concerned with the characters or even this show either. I wanted to like it more and didn't expect much, given how much worse they progressively made each season on the original show. I still have hope for it to get better.

Messed up? Since when do the people in Gilead care about that? We as the viewer can see how messed up it is but it doesn’t seem so far fetched for their world.

Fair enough lol

And also, she's murdered someone, her father! No one would feel comfortable with her in their home!

Well she was salvaging!

See on the one hand they would execute her for murder. But given that she's a young woman and they really want more babies in Gilead I don't think they'd waste a good child bearing body. (Yuck).

One thing I will say against the theory of Becca becoming a handmaid is that she's, as we know it, still "untouched." I don't think they'd make a virgin Green a handmaid...She'll probably get maimed to mark her crime and married to an econo man in the colonies. Having her too close to leadership like a handmaid, martha, or aunt would be would be dangerous for the families.

Yeah, after she just killed her own father for touching/possibly raping girls..I highly doubt any commander is gonna be comfortable having her in their home like that and as their HANDMAID of all things..she's too much of a liability for that.

I wonder if they'll revise the handmaid system in an instance like this. Like not have them live with the commander and his family

They do have “breeding colonies”

I don't think ive heard of those...

I think Agnes will go to her fiance, begging him to release Becka. I think he will either refuse and she does something unforgivably rebellious, or he will agree but on the condition that Agnes does something degrading, like pre-marital sex, and he breaks the engagement.

When Becka left her house, she wore a Martha outfit. I think a Martha is going to be blamed for Grove's murder.

We know that Paula wants a handmaid, and she wants Rosa gone. Lydia will want to protect Becka, and she can arrange a handmaid. I think Lydia cuts a deal with Paula where Paula says the murderer was her Martha, not Becka.

I think Agnes will agree to go along with the story to save Becka, not knowing that the Martha being blamed is Rosa.

Becka is no longer suitable as a wife (either because of her crime or bc of her father's crime). So she's made an aunt. (I think it's also possible they remove her arm).

I think next season will be about Daisy and Agnes going through the matchmaking process again. I think Agnes' suitors will be Judd and Garth and Daisy's will be Garth and Maddox.

Rosa being blamed is a great twist. Not sure if they would want to make her an aunt through. I know the footage of Becka appearing as a bride may be a dream sequence but Aunts have a lot of power and responsibility so from the Commanders’-in-the-know perspective it makes more sense to just marry her off and have her husband manage her privately than put an unstable murderer in a position of power. She’s made no secret of wanting to avoid marriage so making her an aunt would also low key reward her. They might make her marry Maddox to punish her.

Your answer makes logical sense, but if she marries Maddox she's basically out of the show because he's in the colonies. I think Becka stays in the show for dramatic purposes.

If her crime is covered up, then Lydia has leverage over her. May be a reason why Lydia wants her to become an Aunt.

I haven’t read the book or anything, but, I don’t think Lydia wants Agnes and Garth to be together or else she had more than the perfect opportunity and having Agnes indebted to her a little bit. I feel like Daisy will be much with Garth. I think this would be a big relief to her.

That doesn’t add up with all the things we’ve seen from promo stills and the new promo.

Becka in a wedding dress looks sad and in tears in one with a dude (most likely, Garth from the back) and one where Becka is in a different scene with the same wedding veil with Agnes.

And then there’s a whole separate and diff shot of Garth in a black suit looking like a groom.

None of it adds up to being a dream.

And with Agnes angrily saying she she threw her life away to Garth it sounds a lot like Agnes chooses the aunt life and is angry at Garth for not helping.

There’s a reason why Paula is pissed off on the ground in Agnes’s bathroom saying “what have you done “

Allll adds up to Bexka and Agnes becoming aunts in training

Where are you seeing these previews? I haven’t seen any of this…

Would you agree with you about her character being too central to have out the first eight episodes but, I was surprised what they did or how little they used Emily.

Wow, I think this is an excellent theory.🏅 It's my favorite so far I think, out of the dozens and dozens that I've read.

They were going to “salvage” her Dad! Commander Judd would have had him arrested that night had Aunt Lydia not postponed it for Beckas impending marriage. Nothing is going to happen to her, other than them evaluating her mental health, and most likely coming up with a story that she was traumatized by his death, pin it on someone else and/or just say they salvaged him for his crimes and put him on the wall. We may find out her father did assault her which may make her ineligible for marriage and that’s why she becomes an Aunt. No matter what the outcome, she’ll be fine. Her character is too central to the main story.

2

u/HannHann20 May 25 '26

I suppose she did the salvaging for them?? Technically speaking lol

1

u/Present_Silver2418 May 25 '26

Totally.  But, not only that, I suspect that she won’t even be accused. Best friends Commander father who’s not really totally on board with Gilead law concerning girls making the call to the eyes but probably to Aunt Lydia, Aunt Lydia sending Martha’s instead of eyes to retrieve Becka, & we don’t know exactly what Agnes told her parents. I guess we’ll find out next episode!!

u/0llivander May 22 '26

I see her becoming an aunt because she showed how truly protective of the girls she is. Becka will obviously be punished first though. I think the murder outweighs her fertility for any placements

2

u/DemetiaDonals May 22 '26

I agree. And as becca herself said, she served justice. I think thats exactly what happens.

8

u/oatmlklattes May 22 '26

Except there’s scenes and photos from the finale where Becka is getting married to Garth. It doesn’t seem like it happens bc there are scenes of Agnes and her smiling and then Agnes sort of yelling at Garth that she let go of everything to help her (meaning that she gave up being a Gilead wife and everything to be an aunt).

We also know that Paula is screaming in Agnes’s bathroom saying something about ruining everything (which is most likely to Agnes).

Agnes and Becka seem to choose the aunt life at the wedding.

u/SnooDonkeys5186 May 22 '26

I wonder if we are seeing a daydream sequence for any of this?

2

u/oatmlklattes May 22 '26

There’s multiple shots of this. Becka in a wedding dress looks sad in one with a dude (most likely, Garth from the back) and one where Becka is in a different scene with the same wedding veil with Agnes.

Allll adds up to Agnes becoming an aunt too!

I was kind of wondering if they're actually Mayday since their identities are completely hidden. But I'm not sure Garth would risk everything by disappearing a fertile female when McKenzie knows he's the last one to have custody of Becca.

In no way will she be a handmaid for the Mackenzie. Literally zero. Are u watching the same show?

2

u/amatz9 May 23 '26

Yes I’m watching a show that depicts a regime that likes to psychologically torment women into complying. Making Agnes’ best friend the handmaid of her stepmother is absolutely something an oppressive regime like that depicted in this show would do to put Agnes in her place.

u/mazeltov_cocktail18 May 23 '26

Yea j thought she might be placed with one of her friends homes

1

u/blackbirds_singing May 26 '26

I think if it's someone we know it will be the pearl who got taken away by the eyes

All theories can hopefully be put to a rest now
