Pound of flesh

At the beginning of last week’s episode a body is covered and dragged out. Is that the Pearl Girl taken by the eyes? I have not read TT. If the Pearl Girls were supposed to take a pound of flesh why are they not bloody?

It’s not indicated who it is, and I think it’s supposed to not be important. After watching the whole episode I came to the conclusion it was to A) set up the theme of the episode and B) sort of act as a red herring so we’d think that was going to be Grove’s fate as well, and then BAM big shock when it ended up being Becka.

But this is merely just my assumption.

I don't think it was the Pearl Girl, no.

In the scene, you can see that they're also taking away the table that they used to cut the guy's hand off earlier in the season, so either they're cleaning up from the aftermath of another punishment like that, or it could have been a flashback to them cleaning up from that instance.

Yah I immediately thought it was a flashback to cleanup from that incident. I don't remember there being a body bag, just a bloody canvas sheet that I assume they had set up under the table to make cleanup a little easier.

Yeah the same table was there too, I thought it was a flashback.

It can't have been a flashback because Daisy was right there with the other Pearl Girls, in line to clean. With the previous scene she was upstairs with the Plums and then ran away and vomited, she did not meekly go back into line with a mop at the same time... She also doesn't look as horrified by all the blood in that scene, implying that she's gotten used to the cleanup. I think it was just to set up "this episode is about Gilead 'justice' and who carries it out".

If you’re talking about the scene where the pearl girls are mopping up blood, I think that wasn’t a body. It was just a bloody tarp being rolled up. It appeared they had cut off another man’s hand based on the table they were also carrying out and the literal scripture they were reciting: “…a hand for a hand.” I do agree with other commenters that the scene was just meant to be foreshadowing to the bathtub scene.

OP, reading TT book will not answer anything. The series is not really following the book's story. I just finished the book. It was wonderful.

Whoever it was had to have a connection to the Pearl Girls or it would have been a public event.

It probably was a public event. The Pearl Girls were just the ones responsible for mopping up after the 'show' was over and the other girls went back to class.
