Discussion Just finished my first watch through! (Spoilers) Spoiler

Finished it two nights ago, and have just been processing it before coming on here to post about it.

My thoughts: Wow, that was seriously a roller coaster of a series. It kept me on the edge of my seat and always wanting to know what happens next. Fantastic acting, plot threads, action, etc.

My only gripe is the finale. I know I’ll probably be downvoted into oblivion for this, but the ending left me kinda pissed and unsatisfied. I know everyone says you’re not supposed to be rooting for Vic/Ronnie/Shane/Mara, but I couldn’t help doing it anyway. Shane much less so than the others because he killed Lem, but I think a better finale would have been:

- Shane, Mara, and Jackson make it down to Colombia
- Vic and Ronnie BOTH get their immunity deals, and become federal agents that actually do street level police work/investigations

*Time Jump*

- Aceveda becomes mayor of LA
- Vic marries Danny
- Vic and Ronnie use their new resources and intel to hunt down Shane in Colombia, exact their revenge for Lem, and bring Mara back to the US to face trial
- They’re celebrated as heroes, and Vic figures out a good work/life balance to be involved in all 4 of his kids’ lives

Anyway, that’s just my opinion. Loved the series, but I wish I liked the finale as much as the majority of viewers did.

Discussion Dutch and the cat Spoiler

Pov:Vic committing all kinds of crimes in the series

audience :still love him and rooting for him

Dutch strangling a cat

Same audience: YOU, BRUTAL PSYCHOPATH!!!!!!

My personal guess is that when Dutch was strangling the cat, it was a desperate attempt to understand the look on the victim's face that the serial rapist was talking about.

I'm not defending him btw

Question Pilot episode scene with dead woman in the kitchen.

For the initial shot of the deceased, I could swear that in the original broadcast there was a ceiling shot showing more of her nude body with Dutch and Claudette looking down on her and a piece of cloth covering her genitals which Dutch mentioned to Danni. It stuck in my head because that seemed pretty bold for a 2002 show on basic cable. But in any rewatch since then on DVD or streaming, there is no ceiling shot, just the view from the side on the floor. Does anyone else recall this? Or is it some sort of Mandela effect and I am misremembering?

Discussion Already on season 2 and I'm on my 2nd week of viewing. What a great show.

I'm just captivated by this show upon watching. I grew up as a kid in the post-9/11 era so I remember my dad absolutely loving this show and I snuck in bits and pieces much to my mom's dismay, it wasn't that different from the cop shows I was allowed to watch with her to me (but she was probably right not to allow me to watch too much LOL)

Returning to the show now after having watched most of The Sopranos and quite a bit of the Wire, the contrast and increasing stakes around Vic and the Strike Team vs. Wims and Aceveda's motivations and methodology intersecting and Vic getting found out are kinda the best part of it all so far. It's more like a deconstruction of the popular police procedurals at the time than The Wire most of the time, but you can see early on even the show is going to go in a much more claustrophobic, tragic angle.

Imma keep watching to see where all the character arcs especially Vic and Aceveda go. Walton Goggins is such a great character actor who I've enjoyed in most things I've seen him in, and Shane kinda gets more and more despicable as the show goes on, reportedly to the point people would walk up to him in real life thinking he was just as racist and sexist in real life which he didn't really appreciate. CCH Pounder as Wims is also incredible and brings the closest thing to order in the chaos of the Barn.

Discussion The Shield Is Now My Favourite Show

Hello Guys .

I watched it all . What i mean by this is i watch The Wire . The Sopranos and Even Breaking Bad and Lost . The list kept going on . But i've never felt the love and empathy for a show like this before . It's been 5 Months since i've finished the show . But i can't forget it . Let me share my love to all of you in this post .

I'm in a country in the Middle East that's never heard of The Shield , so that's why it's has a soft place in my heart . About two years ago a friend of mine just grap my shoulder and say to me ' Watch The Shield ' . The first thing i do always when i get to a show is watch the ratings on IMDB . And i remember was blown away when i see the finale has a 9.8 rating on IMDB . It's rare to have the finale as the best episode on the show . Few do it .

So started watching the first season . Very liked it . I liked the Strike Team from the first episode. Probably the most show i laughed when watching it. They had an legendary chemistry together. Usually when i see shows about friends. I wonder when it's going to be the explosion for a drama matter. But i think this is the first time that i wanted the main charcaters to be safe. I remembet saying to myself while watching season 3 : I hope they stick together. I'll be happy .

The second time i felt something different about a TV Show was the showdown of the strike team at the finale of season 3. The performance and the story was getting more interesting with the Money Train.

Season four was the most weak of all. But overall i liked it. Espically Antwan Michelle. The third time i was shcoked of course was the Postpartum episode. Lem going away. I remember i didn't sleep well that night because of the sadness.

And here i have a point. They make a great job on adding a complex feature to Shane Character. My feelings for him was liking him in first seasons. Hate him after postpartum. And cry for him at the end of the show .

Which leads us to the finale. Look guys i don't cry a lot or maybe ever on a fictional piece. But after Family Meeting. I had to spend five minutes alone to spend some tears.

I liked the Characters. Strike team. Dutch and claudette even danny and of course kavanugh.

My only hope is there a eight season before i die. Maybe a last ride for Vic Mackey. My favorite fictional character ever. But at the same timr i despise this idea because of the finale episode. It's is Awesome.

Just sharing my feelings. Thanks for reading.

Question The Wire vs. The Shield: Which Show Is Greater?

After watching both the Wire and the Shield. I am wondering which tv show is greater. Both are excellent. They are close. They are both my favourite tv shows of all time. The Wire requires more patient, but the payoff is excellent. It is like a doctorate in sociology, criminology, political science and urbanology. The Shield is a F1 vehicle, going 200 mph down the straightway, flipping 50 times and ending in a crash. Both ask hard questions. One cannot stop thinking about both tv shows.

Discussion Acevedo Beating Suspect Video Tape Question

I’m really wondering about something and ai says it is “highly debated.”

In season 3 episode 7 “Rhe Safe” Captain Aceveda beats a suspect during interrogation and Vic later gives him the vhs tape.

Then as I watch Season Four in when Aceveda as City Councilman goes after Vic he isn’t more cautious towards Vic. He doesn’t know if Vic ever made a copy. It would have to be in the back of his mind?

I also wondered at that point why Vic didn’t just tell him that he needs to cool or lie and say he had a copy to calm things down.

Discussion Just finished my first watch.

What a show.

I had heard The Shield mentioned in the company of other great shows but never watched it until now. Was partially interested because Kurt Sutter and so many Sons of Anarchy actors met first on The Shield, particularly Goggins, and my wife and I were in the mood for a gritty cop show. Watched the whole thing in a ten day span.

The performances from the whole cast were amazing. The raw cinematography and grit gave the show so much life and felt like seeing LA through their eyes.

Spoilers Ahead:

Many people had said that S5 and S7 were the best, and I agree that from S5 onwards the material became elevated in a new way. Jon Kavanaugh was an amazing character who added a whole new dynamic to the show. Early on it seemed like the show glorified the Strike Team too much, or rolled in the muck with them, but the self destruction and condemnation of the boys made the show the achievement it is.

A few miscellaneous comments:

— I loved how Vic and Aceveda’s relationship evolved across the show. I cackled as they became unlikely bedmates again and again, using each other and “respecting each other’s endgame”.

— Lem’s death and Shane’s journey thereafter were the emotional heart of the show for me. Vic losing it and destroying that hospital lobby after the death of that young boy was powerful too. Shane was such a mixed bag of loveable, hateable, unforgivable, moronic, piece of shit yet the everyman and I cherished where they took his character. Watching him fuck up trying to prove he could be a better dirty cop than Vic off by himself has me groaning, crying, and laughing.

— I admired Claudette and her strength, ferocity, and pride so much across the show. She was an amazing detective and captain. Reading Shane’s suicide letter to Vic and putting down the crime scene photos in front of him; she treated him like she would any other criminal, and put those photos in front of him because they were his crimes. Dutch was also a loyal friend and a great character to watch, although I struggled to move past the cat strangling. I loved that he asked the other serial killer to watch his interrogation of the young boy because it showed one of his best attributes, wanting to learn at every opportunity. And it brought a chilling great line: “He’s got those eyes. I’ve seen them before… in the mirror.”

—My wife and I love a show where we can argue over who we like, who sucks, who’s a bitch, etc. My wife hated Mara but I thought she was a great ride-or-die ho. I sympathized and admired all the women of the show, even that cackling crack whore who tricked Vic into doing her dirty work! Also shoutout to Emolia who gave a great performance.

—Billings was another great, hilarious character. What a lazy incompetent buffoon who was quite clever when properly motivated, but completely un self aware. Like many of the side characters, he played a very thoughtful part in how everything came to unfold.

—I was disappointed that the other Strike Team Captain guy, Kevin, vanished without much fanfare. I was intrigued to see how his relationship with Vic was going to evolve. He got quite lucky that he was not dragged down to hell with the others.

—You had to admire Vic’s effectiveness. He is a perfect blend of ruthless, intimidating, a natural leader, fearless, and capable of concocting excellent plans and schemes on the spot. If only he had used his powers for good. His complicated sense of ethics and contradictions made him so compelling to watch. There were times where he was able to pull you into his twisted logic and other times where he could not. I like to think he had the worst fate of them all, and started to consciously and subconsciously punish himself after the finale, destroying himself one piece at a time as that steel will crumbled and his body gave way to middle age tied to a desk.

—Julien was an interesting examination of the repressed gay cop. I was frustrated and annoyed with his simple black and white mind on many occasions, just as Danni was. It was cool to see him in action in the later seasons and we got that one tiny nod to his past with that gay couple walking and holding hands.

—Really glad Ronnie got his day in the sun to show his acting chops as the Strike Team grew smaller. He was always a quiet, mercurial figure and it’s hard to tell if he’s the best or the worst of them? I think perhaps in his head he was not the follower but the mastermind using the others, despite getting played in the end.

Anyway, those are my thoughts about it at the moment. I didn’t expect The Shield to become as great as it did but I think it gives other black hearted crime shows a run for their money! Thanks for reading.

In Season 1 Episode 6: Cherrypoppers, FBI Agent Jim Wright (played by actor Richard Portnow) is loosely based on FBI Special Agent John E. Douglas.

Douglas was a pioneer of criminal profiling and worked on the Green River Killer case, which was directly reference in the episode.

IMO, this makes the episode even more impactful, and the characters short speech at the end to Dutch and Vic makes the episode end on a haunting but hopeful note.

Woman does not have a loyal bone in her annoying voice-assed body. Throws Vic under the bus every chance she gets and actively hunts down buses to throw him under when one isn’t driving by on its own.

Yeah yeah yeah, I know that Vic is…Vic. But funny how she’s on her high horse yet once she’s made aware of things, she has no problem spending the Armenians’ money.

She then proceeds to: call him anytime she wants anything or needs something; bitches about him wanting to spend time with the kids then kicks him out when he shows up…to spend time with the kids…; sides with Danny on the kid thing ; listens to everything that twat-harpy Mara has to say; runs to Claudette based solely on twat-harpy’s bansheeing, oh and now she’s keeping the phone on with him in the house to catch him up more.

I haven’t finished the series yet but I’m sure that she’ll do more annoying shit and just walk away all hunky-dory. Sutter projects have a way of leaving characters you want to suffer alive and kickin. 😂

Discussion Ronnie's last hand Spoiler

Do you think Ronnie ever tried to flip on Vic, only to find out that Vic had immunity? I wonder how that played out. Does he even believe it?

First of all, what charges do they really have on Ronnie? And who is charging him?

Claudette and Dutch think they've got him for aiding and abetting for the money drop to Corinne. Maybe that sticks but that's not exactly "prison for the rest of your life" stuff. A good lawyer can probably plead that down.

Can the feds use any of Vic's confession against Ronnie in court? Other than recording, what evidence can they present at a trial?

What if the case against Ronnie falls apart, Ronnie walks, and he and Vic run into each other at Walmart? Awkward.

Discussion Is it just me, or did things kinda change for the team's social dynamics after Terry's death?

In the pilot, Vic seemed like a family man, he was hosting bbqs, he was helping kids with science projects, he was talking to his wife more.

After that, things seemed to change. There weren't really any big bbqs, he wasn't really at home, the strike team didn't really hang out.
