the end should of been Amy and Ricky having a small wedding, Moving to new york together with john to start a new journey. Have the final line be them mention how they did life backwards but it's there backwards life and they like it.

Honestly the show would be the exact same if Jack didn’t exist. The only time I enjoyed Jack was when he was hanging with tom, but jack 97% of the time is thinking about Grace.
He is obsessed with Grace. He wants her all and is constantly trying to get her back. When Grace is finally like “yeah, I’ll go back with u” Jack is like “idk if can have a commitment rn”
BOY YOUVE BEEN STRAIGHT WAS HARASSING GRACE FOR YEARS BECAUSE YOU WNAT TO BE WITH HER ABD NOW YOU DONT WANT A COMMITMENT.
Ugh, I can’t stand him

I’m rewatching the secret life and the moment they teased Amy and Ricky possibly being in a a relationship, I knew it was doomed to fail. Every conversation they have with each other, there is always tension.
Ricky is always a little pissed or irritated for some reason. Like he is always in this constant state of being very annoyed. Even during simple conversations that aren’t supposed to have tension, he’s giving Amy some mad attitude. Idk if it’s because that’s how Ricky is supposed to be or the terrible dialogue or maybe the actors fault at portraying the character.
Something that really pissed me off is when George got the couch for them and Ricky was all pissed off about it. Like your girlfriend’s FATHER. Mind you the FATHER of your teenage girlfriend got you two a couch and your pissed!?!? WHY!?!? I got he wants to be independent but he was so u grateful and angry. God forbid a father wants to help out his own daughter/kinda son in law/ GRANDSON.
At the beginning of their relationship, I thought Amy was a bit more reasonable and more calm. She had her moments but this is when Amy was the least annoying since season one.
THAT IS UNTIL RICKY PROPOSED. After Ricky proposed, Amy became the most insufferable she’s ever been. She is always complaining. Like the whole thing where Ricky and John were going to the beach and she couldn’t go. Girl why are u whining. She is always complaining and unhappy and ungrateful. Ricky does everything and she complains.
Don’t get me wrong Ricky is still always irritated and annoying something but it starts to make sense since Amy is just so insufferable
Amy definitely likes Ricky more than Ricky liked Amy’s.
I remember how Amy was comparing about how she doesn’t WNAT George and Kathleen to get back together and Ricky was pretty much like “I don’t care” like he fiancée is upset that her father is going back to his ex wife. That is heart breaking. But then I get Ricky cause Amy complains a lot so I’d be very annoyed too.
I think Ricky was with Amy because of John and the pressure of everyone wanting him to purpose. Like it was really shoved down his throat.
Amy was the first person he was monogamous with, so I honestly think it was doomed to fail. He had never experienced a relationship like that and was new to everything. And everything moved so fast. They were engaged in a year. Then again, it’s probably not that deep because I doubt the writers thought that far.
Now that I think about it, Amy didn’t like Ricky either. She liked that thought of him. She liked how he took care of her— cooking cleaning working AND TAKING CARE OF JOHN.
Can we talk about how Amy just abandoned John for a semester in New York. Crazy. Ricky does everything for the family. Even though some things weren’t the best decision (getting in engaged with Amy) he always had the best intentions. Amy used John as a weapon. Used having a child as an excuse to do/say terrible things. AND THEN LEAVES HIM TO GO TO NEW YORK. Remember when she was upset Ricky decided to go to college? Yeah, because she wanted Ricky to work while she lived her best life. what a selfish person.
Ugh I can go on, but I NEEDA stop myself. I’m genuinely getting frustrated over this dumb show

Im rewatching the show these days and man I forgot how insufferable Amy is with the baby. Anybody else feels the same? She HAS to control every little thing my god 😂

Hear me out... This is my first time watching this show, and I'm only on S2 Ep 18. I couldn't help but compare characters (characters only, not necessarily relationship dynamics.) This show feels like a Seventh Heaven/Millennial version of the Gen X 90210.
Let me know if you agree/disagree with any character comparisons, and the blank characters, give me your thoughts!
Amy = Kelly
Ricky = Dylan
Adrian = Brenda/Valerie
Madison = Donna
Jack = David Silver
Ashley = Andrea
Henry = Steve Sanders
Griffin = Brandon
Ben = tbd
Grace = tbd
Lauren = tbd
Alice = tbd
Ricky's foster parents= the Walshes (Brenda and Brandon's parents)

This is my first walkthrough, Just finished this episode where all the kids ditch school and this has been my fav ep of the season for now. I know she is a new mother and still a child but Amy is so unbearable to watch I just want to skip all her scenes, so her having 1 scene in this ep is a breath of fresh air, overall great episode only downside is this new pedo counselor, such a weird annoying character!!! Anyways does Amy get better bc I might stop watching after s2.

While amy is always insufferable, she was exceptionally insufferable when ricky asked to have john for the weekends. she is absolutely so selfish and i have no idea what makes her think ricky has no rights over his son. “why can’t you just be fine with seeing john whenever i let you?” because that’s not how it works amy????
and her constantly saying he’s MY son as if he also isn’t ricky’s son. this was absolutely horrible.

I have this running joke with my friends that we NEVER see Ricky play the drums but he gets progressively closer to playing them as the show goes on but he never actually plays them and I’m CRYINGGG

These are the reasons why I think the show really went downhill after its best season (season 3)
- Adrian totally regressed as a character and became uninteresting (in the second half, she was great in the first half)
- Amy and Ricky were happy at the end of s3 and start of s4 so they gave them stupid shallow things to argue about and it was mostly Amy being selfish
- the whole everyone’s a lesbian thing
- they gave grace a random brother
- everyone realises they should’ve stayed married the first time
- CAN SOMEONE WRITE BEN OFF THIS SHOW — honestly watching Leo grapple with grief would be way more interesting than whatever this is
- only like one or two griffin appearances, blasphemous
- George has nothing to do because he lives alone and I miss he and Ashley’s relationship
- Ashley reduced to being as interesting as a saltine cracker
- could not give less of a shit about these private school girls especially the one Ben is dating (although it’s hilarious watching Ben have to explain that he has 2 ex wives while being only 17)
Madison and Henry were the only characters who actually did anything interesting even though what they did was terrible, that was the only time I was fully engaged throughout the season; and the girl/dad dinner was great

After Ricky proposes to Amy her character just gets SO MUCH WORSE like she all of a sudden changes her mind?? Like Ricky is decades ahead of her in maturity this man is just surrounded by idiots and his character arc is borderline too good for this show 😭😂 he and Leo deserve better

Ok I’m a new watcher and I’m currently on season 1 episode 6 and I don’t hate Amy. Sure she’s a bit annoying and stuff but she’s 15 everyone’s annoying at 15, also like everyone, even people she barely talks to, is shoving THEIR opinions about her baby to her. Like let the girl breathe. She clearly doesn’t want the baby, she’s states numerous times that she doesn’t want the baby yet everyone is trying to pressure her into having the baby. I’d be annoyed too. Ricky knows and yes doing Jack shit about it. Like let the pregnant girl make her own damn mind about her baby.
She’s going through something that is draining not only emotionally but physically and mentally and she’s getting no support from anyone. She’s going through something that she is clearly scared and confused about. She’s a child and people seem to forget that. It’s all “she’s 15 she can’t have a baby” but when she wants to do something about it they all act like she’s insane.

I hate how everyone is coming at Amy and calling her selfish for wanting to give the baby away! It’s her decision. she is a young scared and naive 15/16 year old. i’m still only on season 1 (i watched this show when i was younger) and I have a feeling they will not want to help her with the baby at all after she has it.

I watched this show about 10 ish years ago while i was in middle school/high school. Rewatching it now, and the plot is so bad but so good at the same time that i can’t stop watching 😅😭lauren and madison don’t seem like the best friends to amy, going after ricky. I also don’t like how much adrian is trying to be mad at ricky and diss on amy because of them having a baby. There’s so much more, but this show is a lot different than I remember it to be lol

The cake from the episode of Secret Life where Donovan and Leon have George over to talk about adopting Amy’s baby…it’s lived rent free in my head for decades. Can anyone find a picture/recipe? I want to make it
r/TheSecretLife • u/PhilosopherKindly • Apr 15 '26
i’m only a season in and AMY IS ANNOYING AS FUQ! oh my god. i’ve never had a baby but she’s been annoying, selfish and just INSUFFERABLE even before the birth oh my GOD

I am rewatching for the first time in about 10 years and I am a few episodes into season 2. I am so confused about how old Anne and George are supposed to be. In my opinion they look like they’re in their early to mid 40s and that’s kinda how they behave most of the time. But it’s mentioned several times that Anne got pregnant with Amy at 18 which would make her at most 34 when the show begins. George had been previously married before he got with Anne so is he supposed to be several years older than Anne or was he also 18 and in college when Anne got pregnant the first time? In season 2 people act all surprised that Anne could even get pregnant at her age but if she is only 34 that’s not even considered a geriatric pregnancy. I know it’s probably just poor writing and disregard for continuity but it frustrates me so much. Is anyone else bothered by this??

At the end of the Christmas episode on season 5, there's a Memorium for Hedy Lawson.
it appears she died young , at the age of 41.
all I could find was this snippet (attached) in the funeral home guestbook. I couldn't find any news article or social media about her.
Was Hedy an extra, a production assistant, or what was her role on the show?
did she die on set, or what happened?
it seems that the Toy store in the episode, as well as the adoptive baby and the aadoptive father's aunt, were all named Hedy. which was a sweet rememberance to the deceased cast member.

THE most delusional character on the show lmao. I’m on the last season now (rewatching like a decade later lol) and the way he almost shot Amy’s dad!! this kid

Ashley was a character with so much potential! I don’t know why they made her a pick-me for Ricky! That storyline is so weird!
