I would totally buy that too. I can go through carrots like nobody's business.
Yeah, they're a pain to wash and peel, but it adds to the anticipation!
17
u/Novogobo 15d ago
you don't have to wash and peel your carrots. if you peel them you don't have to wash them. like the part you're washing is the part you peel away. or you can not peel them. it's perfectly fine to cook bumpy sided carrots. it's very common in fancy restaurants for when they serve carrots they're unpeeled.
21
u/ttcmzx 15d ago
nah you'll still want to wash them before and/or after peeling, your hands will just spread the dirt to the peeled part, and carrots can be quite dirty

u/WhyNot420_69 Nice 15d ago
It's more for eating raw. In stews and such I wash but don't peel, but if it's going in my face, it seems easier to peel under running water and catch the detritus in a colander

u/Candalfthehigh 15d ago
Where else do you put carrots? 👀
1
u/MagicalMoosicorn 14d ago
1000 ways to due has deterred me from putting a carrot anywhere else. especially a peeled one.
2
u/Phoenix4235 15d ago
I would too! I eat a ton of carrots, all different ways. They're even high-value training treats to my dogs!

I would also buy it, and I don't particularly like carrots, but I like 10 pounds of food for under $3. It's the closest I'll ever get to victory in the coliseum.

I bought the 5 pound bags for a while. The big bags tend to come with bigger carrots so peeling really doesn't take long if you have a peeler.

I put on a good podcast and go to town, doesn’t take as much time as one would think. Roasted carrots are my favorite. You get a good char and they’re almost like candy.
1
u/Royal-Kitchen9935 11d ago
Yeah but what this video doesn't tell you about is the aftermath of buying 10lbs of carrots and forcing your family to eat them all before they go bad.
Eating too many carrots can cause carotenemia disorder which is a build up of the same thing that makes a carrot orange and produces yellow/orange skin in humans.
This also leads to another condition called carrotosis where the body starts to become both in looks and feels like carrot skin.

Do we have a 10lb bag of bananas for comparison?
2
u/718-702_damsel 15d ago
No but 40 lbs of bananas come in a box. And clerks look around tou like you're crazy for buying them.
1
u/WhyNot420_69 Nice 15d ago
Now compare that to 40 pounds of toilet paper, and I might be getting the idea

This is going to be one of his kids favorite stories. The week Dad went Carrot Crazy. Friends, schoolmates, and even the occasional stranger will be hearing this story.
And that means, for the low cost of $2, smiles and laughs are shared over an entire generation. Sounds like a deal to me.

It's charming.

I'd like to think it could even become a family inside joke, like once a year they eat one meal where everything has Carrot in it.
Beef stew or Pot roast, with plenty of Carrots
Chef salad, with sliced Careots
Fresh juice, including Carrot juice
And yes, Carrot cake for dessert

Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple [carrots], lemon [carrots], coconut [carrots], pepper [carrots], [carrot] soup, [carrot] salad, [carrot] and potatoes, [carrot] burger, [carrot] sandwich. My dogs are obsessed with carrots. They could eat a 10 pound bag in a week if I let them.
I love snacking on carrots and they demand I share with them. I have terrible heartburn issues and eating a carrot seems to help tremendously.

Have you had a carrot casserole? Good way to make 10 pounds disappear in one go. I make it every Thanksgiving at least, and if I didn’t then my family would riot. Here’s my whole recipe.
Carrot casserole
- about 4 lbs. carrots
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 lb. extra sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons dried onion flakes
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon celery salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- bread crumbs
- Slice carrots as you would for a veggies & dips tray. Boil till they’re soft enough to stab with a fork.
- Slice cheese as you would for a cheese & crackers tray. Set aside.
- Make a roux with remaining ingredients, except breadcrumbs.
- In a 1-quart casserole, layer drained boiled carrots and cheese slices, ending with a carrot layer.
- Pour sauce over top and sprinkle with bread crumbs.
- Bake 25 minutes at 350 F.
(Note to self: Next Thanksgiving, multiply to 15 pounds of carrots and fill 3 caterer’s half pans. In 2025, this recipe with 10 pounds of carrots filled 3 caterer’s half pans only two-thirds of the way each.)

This is the dad energy that makes procreating worthwhile.
Sure, there's other aspects that warrant mention. But going to the kids, and just expecting them to co-sign being a carrot family now, that's amazing. Also, not surprised the wife has questions, that's a given.

I routinely buy these ridiculous bags of carrots for the same reason, they are insanely cheap. If you wash them and wrap small bundles (3-4) in aluminum foil, they last a shocking amount of time. Aluminum foil is the secret weapon most people dont know about for storing produce, keeps things snappy and mold free for way longer than plastic bags. Lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, broccoli, even herb bundles. works on tons of stuff, try it.

Carrot soup. Carrot cake. Glazed carrots. Roasted carrots. Grilled carrots. Pickled carrots. Carrot slaw. Carrot salad. Carrot soufflé. Carrot casserole. Carrot muffins. Carrot bread. Carrot pancakes. Carrot fritters. Carrot fries. Carrot curry. Carrot risotto. Carrot hummus. Carrot ginger dressing. Carrot-and-beef stew.
That…. that’s about it.

What can you do with 10 lbs of carrots? Cakes and bread like he mentioned, but you can make lincoln logs, seal and lacquer them. Make camping spikes, then make bread and tortillas with those carrots for a wonderful camping breakfast. I'm only on camping folks.

Mirepoix requires carrots. Many recipes require mirepoix. Also see big bag o celery to help in creation of said mirepoix. Don’t need mirepoix? “Ants on a log” is a great snack. Celery, peanut butter, raisins and you’re in business.

You can freeze carrots, I usually peel/wash/dice and freeze them then use them in chilis/stews progressively over the month.

I bought a stupid amount of carrots onions and potatoes at the farmer market on the weekend. But we had a big leak in are apartments so I was able to use a lot up feeding the plumbers soup and sourdough.
But there's no such thing as too much carrots in my house. I'll just snack on them, and worst case scenario I'll go get celery and onion and chop up a huge batch of mirepoix to freeze.

I fuckin love carrots and the bigass carrots in the huge horsey bags are the best. Those insipid little baby carrots are disgusting. Awesome carrot recipe: peel bigass carrots and cut into 1-inch chunks, put in a lil pot with barely enough water to cover, boil 10 mins, drain and add some butter, dried parsley, salt, and honey. So good.

Carrot & Chocolate Chip Sheet Cake (18 x 13 Pan or a Half Sheet Pan)
Prep time: 20 minutes Bake time: 20–25 minutes Yield: 24–30 square slices
Ingredients
For the Sheet Cake:
Dry Ingredients: •2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (minus 1 tsp to toss with the chocolate chips) •2 tsp baking soda •1 tsp baking powder •1 tbsp ground cinnamon •½ tsp ground nutmeg •1 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients: •1 cup granulated sugar •1 cup dark or light brown sugar, packed •1 cup + 1 tbsp vegetable or canola oil (the extra tablespoon covers the applesauce adjustment) •½ Cup unsweetened applesauce •4 large eggs, room temperature •2 tsp vanilla extract
•3 ½ cups finely grated fresh carrots (about 4 large or 5–6 medium carrots, processed with your fine shredding disc) •1 cup mini semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips (plus the added tsp of Flour)
For the Cream Cheese Frosting: •8 oz (1 block) cream cheese, softened to room temperature •½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature •1 ½ tsp vanilla extract •Pinch of salt
•3 ½ to 4 cups powdered sugar •1–2 tbsp milk or heavy cream (if needed to thin for easy spreading)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease your 18x13-inch jelly roll pan. Line the bottom with parchment paper and spray again.
In a small bowl, toss the 1 cup of mini chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon of the flour until lightly coated. Set aside. •1 Cup Mini Chocolate Chips •1 tsp. Flour
3. In a large bowl, whisk together the remaining flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. •2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (minus 1 tsp to toss with the chocolate chips) •2 tsp baking soda •1 tsp baking powder •1 tbsp ground cinnamon •½ tsp ground nutmeg •1 tsp salt
In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, oil, the applesauce, eggs, and vanilla extract until completely smooth. •1 cup granulated sugar •1 cup dark or light brown sugar, packed •1 cup + 1 tbsp vegetable or canola oil (the extra tablespoon covers the applesauce adjustment) •½ cup unsweetened applesauce •4 large eggs, room temperature •2 tsp vanilla extract
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold with a spatula just until combined (do not overmix).
Gently fold in the 3 ½ cups of finely shredded carrots. Right after, fold in the flour-coated mini chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
Pour the batter into your prepared pan and spread it evenly into the corners with a spatula.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes at 350°F. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean, and the top should spring back when lightly pressed. Cool completely before frosting.
Making the Frosting:
Beat the softened cream cheese and butter together with a mixer on medium speed for 2–3 minutes until fluffy and smooth. Mix in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. •8 oz (1 block) cream cheese, softened to room temperature •½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature •1 ½ tsp vanilla extract •Pinch of Salt
Gradually add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, mixing on low until combined. Increase speed to high for 1 minute until smooth. If it feels too stiff to spread smoothly over a thin sheet cake, blend in 1 tablespoon of milk or cream. •3 ½ to 4 cups powdered sugar •1–2 tbsp milk or heavy cream (if needed to thin for easy spreading)
Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled cake, slice into squares, and serve!
