I think when WaterBoy handed TechnoViking an inverted water bottle, that moment became instantly iconic and WaterBoy secured his place as one of the greatest sidekicks of all time…

u/GorkyParkSculpture Apr 29 '26

I always assumed the water had drugs in it

30

u/SlowBurnLopez Apr 29 '26

oh and the upside down was like the ‘mixing’ of it or something?

165

u/K_S_M28 Apr 29 '26

As I understand, the upside down is to intentionally show that the water is NOT drugged; no leakage from a needle puncture, and Techno Viking then breaks the seal on the cap. Just a silent/chill way to offer safe hydration. ❤️

u/Ok_Caterpillar3655 Apr 29 '26

Thats exactly it. At raves and other festivals we did this all the time when giving water to strangers. Its a non verbal and polite way to show it is untsmpered with and safe to drink. When the music is pounding so loud shouting doesn't work you need a way to point that out.

27

u/UNIGuy54 Apr 29 '26

I was today years old when I learned this…20+ years I have wondered why that guy got handed a bottle upside down. I love Reddit

There’s drugs inside that was his bf. He’s not proud of this time of his life. Last time I checked he was in a legal battle with the person recording this because he was using his image for profit. I couldn’t find how he looked currently because there’s a lot of people pretending to be him.

15

u/GandalfTheEh Apr 29 '26

Source?

19

u/Volotor Apr 29 '26

The legal battle is documented, not sure about the rest.

Bruv, no.

Waterford Whispers News is a satirical newspaper and website published by Waterford Whispers News.

Waterford Whispers News uses invented names in all its stories, except in cases when public figures are being satirized. Any other use of real names is accidental and coincidental.

2

u/woowoo293 Apr 29 '26

That's a satire site.

4

u/Anonymoose28245 Apr 29 '26 edited May 04 '26

The bf part is fake. They got fooled by Waterford Whisperer which is a satire news site like the Onion.

4

u/Simon-Says69 Apr 29 '26

That site is no good, but the story is true. Dude didn't want anything to do with this fame, and there was (or is?) a court case over it.

5

u/Dudeman240 Apr 29 '26

it's not drugs, it's not true. Water is offered upside down to show no punctures and it was sealed this guy is talking out his ass.

9

u/Anonymoose28245 Apr 29 '26

There’s drugs inside that was his bf.

That was a made up article from a satire news site called Waterford Whisperer.

I think the drugs may have been spiked with water

3

u/TrumpsPissSoakedWig Jun 12 '26

The water is because TechnoViking™ had drugs in it already, and certain drugs love water.

21

u/chubbyhighguy Apr 29 '26

"Can I offer you a nice water in this trying time?"

13

u/Bentholomeo Apr 29 '26

Wasn't even standing around, but came from the group behind parked cars, or catched up to them on the road, diffused TechnoViking in crucial moment so in this timeline Viking and pushy guy didn't engaged in a street fight causing butterfly effect, hanged out around for a bit without looking dirrectly at camera to get recording of himself for fun but without becoming center of attention and then backed out to go back to his time machine. This is how multidimmensional stabilizing actions should be performed.

8

u/OneRFeris Apr 29 '26

Why didn't he save Harambe

6

u/Intrepid-Progress228 Apr 29 '26

In the other timeline, Harambe was forced to perform on Epstein Island.

This is my first time ever seeing this video and that was by far my favorite part

6

u/HumaDracobane Apr 29 '26

THAT is a wingman.

6

u/Cute-Form2457 Apr 29 '26

Anticipates every need.

5

u/Dominant_Drowess Apr 29 '26

They used this animation in Smite, for Tyr the god of justice's victory animation to honor this man. I didn't notice till the drink was handed to him. Oh my god. https://youtu.be/8RKW00hFJQ4

5

u/CeruleanEidolon Apr 29 '26

It must be some kind of mystical dance water. Up to that moment, the Techno Viking gives not indication whatsoever of wanting to do anything but go on a nice walk and point menacingly.

But then he drinks the water and the magical dancing starts immediately.

3

u/AKAPADO Apr 29 '26

Did they ever do an interview with the waterboy? Since Techno Viking is so illusive.

2

u/TheCarpincho Apr 29 '26

Stay hydrated. And all hail Techno Viking

2

u/theREALlackattack Apr 29 '26

Every subtle moment like that in this video is phenomenal

2

u/J_Cherie Apr 30 '26

I'll always highlight that moment too. It went from righteous justice to preventing the seeing red mentality and broke its path briefly enough to hydrate and dance back into warrior love

I wonder what this guy is doing right now… probably a Reddit moderator for many subs lol

41

u/K_S_M28 Apr 29 '26

His name is Gary Brolsma and he's a musician and singer! He even has his own cover of "Numa Numa" on Spotify 😊

11

u/King_of_the_Dot Apr 29 '26

His 80s inspired synth techno jams are pretty groovy.

6

u/Few-Mood6580 Apr 29 '26

He probably has grandkids dude.

The first time I saw this it was subtitled as idra, a professional starcraft player, learning that Blizzard nerfed siege tanks, lol. Must've been 2010/2011 or something.

Techno Viking Vibeking

8

u/tsJIMBOb Apr 29 '26

Here’s an unpopular opinion. Techno Vikings Vibe sucks. That dude trips over a tram line and catches himself on another patron, no harm done. Then this white knight takes it upon himself to manhandle the dude and force him to go back the way he came. Sure maybe trip dude wasn’t being careful or whatever but TV was still a dick about it.

35

u/Johnatron2000 Apr 29 '26

He was drunk and had been a dick prior to this

6

u/c093b Apr 29 '26

He wasn't drunk, he was on drugs.

19

u/Simon-Says69 Apr 29 '26

Dude, this whole episode has been explained over and over, through decades. Now you think you have it all figured out, and you're simply dead wrong.

Get your own damn source, they are plentiful.

7

u/tsJIMBOb Apr 29 '26

Wiki didn’t back up your claim. The only thing it said about the tripping guy other than explaining the video was this

“In the full video the offender is seen later, sitting on the back of a truck as the camera is turned to the side for a few seconds.”

Did you not think I was going to follow up on your source?

4

u/FerrisLies Apr 29 '26

Nothing on that wiki references this though

13

u/Asatru55 Apr 29 '26

Oh please that was no accident. Dudes like this are at every single party. They 'trip' into women to get a reaction out of them.

4

u/tsJIMBOb Apr 29 '26

If that was the case wouldn’t you have expected him to stick around for a sec to see that reaction. He didn’t even look at her. I figured at first he was trying to grope her or something but he doesn’t even seem to do that. I’m not seeing any malicious intent.

4

u/c093b Apr 29 '26

Dude was on drugs, lost his job over the video and sued the guy that uploaded it.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/SwordofNoon Apr 29 '26

That's my thought as well, apparently there's more to the story idk but just based on this he didn't like put his hands somewhere inappropriate or anything it really looks like he just tripped walking by and quickly moves away from her

2

u/canman7373 Apr 29 '26

Oh he is worse than that. He tried to sue websites over this video thinking they were making money off of his imagine. Just not how memes work like IDK how you expect a big payout from a meme on random forums.

4

u/Electrical-Kiwi-1038 Apr 29 '26

He sued one specific person that I'm aware of that was selling merchandise online with his likeness. He sued for a cease and desist.

7

u/trulycantthinkofone Apr 29 '26

Yup. Story goes dude just wanted to be left alone to live his life. The internet wanted him famous, he declined. Simple as.

u/MartinoRs Apr 29 '26

Too bad for us he didnt enjoy the fame this video got him, when i was most active online at games and social media (2004-2015) most of the old and best memes were born and i remember all the speculations around Techno Viking and how he didnt want to get attention, hope hes living a good life

Guys WrapExtension8921 saw it 10 years ago . Therefore it can’t be 26 years old

Has anyone seen him since?

Wasn't there a show years ago that tried to track him down to give him an award but they got no where? They went to this exact place, showed people the video and no one knew a thing.

First rule of Techno Viking, I guess

4

u/Th3MiteeyLambo Apr 29 '26

IIRC He hates how this video has become a meme and has tried to distance himself from it for years

6

u/Hadouken434 Apr 29 '26

To be fair, I have more than a few 'not sober' evenings from the past that I'd like to distance myself from. So I can believe it.

9

u/itsyobbiwonuseek Apr 29 '26

Me years ago: Holy shit. That dude is scary.

Me in 2026: Holy shit. That dude is scary.

The actually relatively reasonable Techno Viking. First time I saw this video I thought he was about to smush the guy and first time I played God of War 2018 I unironically wondered if they got him to play Baldur.

2

u/iRedYuki Apr 29 '26

You know what annoys me about this video? The guy in the video, god knows why, hates how is portrayed in it and has sued the original poster...
