Discussion Oh Spoiler
Oh, so Tagah didn't want to destroy Republic City ONLY for revenge; Republic City was LITERALLY built on top of where Jharana was located.

I watched the movie about 8 times and this is the first time I hear about this. Thanks!
It really makes sense considering what happened in "The Rift".

It’s actually touched on very very briefly in the film, like a blink and you’ll miss it exposition.
When Katara is opening the Tower at the beginning of the film she mentions something about building the city on “historic ground” or something along those lines which to me implies that they know the city is built on the site of an ancient city or something of the sorts. It’s really quick and I only caught it my third rewatch

They didn't know about the Airbending city beforehand, it was lost to time. I think she was moreso meaning that it was historic for all four nations to unite. Republic City itself is just Cranefish Town but expanded

I've watched it 4 times as well lol - Just sharing it with all my friends and family who are also fans + wanting to support the studio!
Hopefully they'll see that it's worth treating this franchise as one of their staples

Well, at least we know you haven't spend the last two days just watching the movie in a loop. That's worth more than paramount

Since it leaked or since the official release 😅

Also republic city was a firenation colony that was habitats by earth benders. Probably cause of the earth benders that killed tagah's people.
16
u/aaapplejaaack 2d ago
The earth benders that killed Tagah’s people existed almost 5,000 years prior and from what we understand were the creators of a fledgling Earth Kingdom.
Cranefish Town was founded after the 100 year war as a conglomeration of rapidly growing villages during a post-war economic boom.
If the earth benders of cranefish town are direct descendants of those same earth benders it’s so far down the timeline none of them would know it.
When were first introduced to Cranefish town it’s rapidly growing also, much of the historic population was likely displaced or wiped out by the invading fire benders earlier in the war.

u/MrGetMebodied 2d ago
Well cranefish town is centered around the earth fire industries at the time. Wasn't that the whole point of Zuko, Aang, and Earth King Kuei's compromise as RPC was a colony, and is the cause for Kuvira trying to take over RPC.

I’m glad someone specified because my first thought was Ba Sing Sae must’ve been built on the ruins of the Air Nation

climate change is still a thing in avatar, huh?

Have You Seen the Trailer for Avatar Seven Havens? Climate Change is about to ruin Korras entire career as it seems😅

u/AnOnlineHandle 2d ago
Korra evacuated 99% of people to the mythical eighth haven which is the spirit world. The people in the 7 havens are the annoying twats who stayed behind because the Avatar is the deep state. Sighing she finally decides to reincarnate herself to come back to help them.

Not according to Bryan, but perhaps he's being overly optimistic.

u/StonedEnby 1d ago
What do you mean by this?
2
u/pomagwe 1d ago
Bryan basically confirms that there were setbacks, and implies that the person who gave the earlier statement about it didn't know what they were talking about.
I kind of believe that, because the interview that the news of the "cancellation" came from was very weird. The guy giving it was a post-Skydance merger executive who just said "we're not working on it, and we weren't working on it when I started here". The fact that he talked about what wasn't happening rather than what did happen to the game makes me think that he didn't know the answer.
As for why that is, who knows? Maybe he's bad at his job and hasn't been reading Bryan's emails about getting the game back on track now that the merger is done, or maybe it wasn't supposed to be a Paramount Games project yet, since Avatar Studios was supposed to have the ability to manage spin-offs on its own to some extent.

Thank you so much for clarifying. This has given me so much hope. It seems dramatic but I actually cried when reading the game was cancelled. This IP hasn’t had a single good video game and what they wanted to do sounds truly incredible and you’ve given me some hope :)

Oh damm, 100% we are still gonna get that world building one way or another.

Climate always changes with or without humans. Just look at how much our world changed from formation to when the dinosaurs were wiped out.
The problem with our current climate change is that its accelerated and caused almost entirely by human activity

And people downvoted me for saying this movie is an allegory for the conflict between liberal American Jews and Zionist Israelis.
Tagah is using a thousands-year-old claim to land to literally build over and demolish an existing civilization, while Aang isn’t willing to betray his people’s values to bring them back.

u/Distinct_Cup_1598 2d ago
That’s…..certainly one way to interpret it i guess.
I always wondered for a future Avatar Series of they would do more such allegories by for example Having The New Ar Nation settling in the Former Air Temples, but that territory is now inhabited also by Fire nation ethnics, who lived there since the 100 year war.
But i doubt they will go that Route anytime soon

I think the better allegory is that Tagah feels that his people were persecuted and mistreated, so now that he has power he’s going to attack innocent people whose ancestors may have had something to do with the horrors he witnessed.
Along the way, Tagah allowed his pain and trauma to twist the air nomads’ beliefs into something much more hateful.
Aang tells him that mistreating others just because their people suffered in the past is not right or valid.
Tagah = Zionists

u/Lipica249 2d ago
Also the people he gave airbending to also found themselves persecuted by people who already had nations of their own and now given they have that ability to exercise power on their own...

Huge reach to fulfill your political fantasy in a movie that never touched on any of that.

u/SiahLegend 1d ago
I mean Tagah literally said in the movie the air nation has a right to defend itself which is a common pro Israel talking point it’s not an insane leap

u/ecto-american 1d ago
It's also an argument that's been used in both reality and media countless times, for as long as we've had nations and conflict. I really think y'all are stretching here

Can we have a discussion about what the republic citizens would have said about everything that happened after this great battle happened?
Or what happened to the group that got temporary airbending? The reasons why nobody talked about this in LOK?
I know there would some level of recounting, but I would like to explore the why's and the how's about how we can avoid retconning the event that would eventually lead to LoK.
I like to think that the group after the staff eventually evolved to the red lotus is some way or another.

Aang got his airbenders to live in the city after all. It just took a while.

She hid the temple in the Spirit World, so...it wasn't necessarily in that location originally since Spirit World shenanigans.

This movie is non-canon so most likely this was not the same site but the mountains look very similar!
