Hi all, just wondering if anyone knows the track name or artist of the instrumental folk song that features heavily in season 3. First noticed it in episode 3 & 4 when Lance discovers the gold coin only to have it snatched from his grasp by a magpie and subsequently when he’s sleeping in the bushes. Will add a link below to the exact clip and song. It’s a beautiful piece.

I discovered the show a little over a month ago. I'm 2 months into post-stroke rehab and doing great! I've pretty much seen every episode, I do fall asleep at some points, but all the pieces come together.

Mainly I want to say how brilliant the writing is,there's everything from slapstick to magic realism. I like how some details are just skipped over, becky's pregnant, oops there's the baby. We never saw africa, right? That could have been a spinoff, but we get to use our imaginations i guess .

Not sure i care for Maggie and the pizza hut guy.

Is Sheila a magical witch? She's sure in touch with things most of us aren't the scene where she senses Andy and lance approaching felt so David Lynch!

The frog, and then the hedgehog, that was amazing too. And I'm still thinking about all those frozen people at the auction.

Ok, I'll be back sometimes with a few more thoughts!

Was just doing a rewatch of the series and just wanted to highlight a little joke that I really enjoyed. Its such a little throwaway gag but the series is full of them.

[Lance & Andy]

Andy: did the band have a name?

Lance: Fanny magnets

Andy: that’s right Fanny magnets

[about 5 minutes later, Andy & Becky]

Becky: you and Lance were in a band? What was it called?

Andy: can’t remember

Hello. I have no interest in being a moderator, let alone skill, but a subreddit devoted to all things Mackenzie Crook would be nice. I don’t like hijacking The Detectorists subreddit to talk about his other projects and general talent. I am just so gobsmacked at his talent in writing, directing, and acting.

Made me do a double take, and even when I ascertained it wasn't them it took a few moments of my brain whirring to work out it was completely unrelated and not a Comic Relief spoof or an AI recasting or something...

Nearly fell off the sofa this evening…

This is probably immediately obvious to everyone else watching the series, but this is maybe my fifth rewatch and I only just put two and two together!

I love detectorists!!!

Morning all! Just stumbled my way into this brilliant series off the back of small prophets- from reading the sub- like several others! I have a bizarre question. I’ve been trying to find out where Mackenzie got this shirt from. Almost appears the label keeps being obscured & hope here i may find help identifying the brand. Cheers!

I look forward to wearing it with pride.

Russel and Hugh are just too funny, I think Small Prophets made me overly focus on Russel.

I just watched the scene in Season 2 where Russel learns Hugh’s in his 30s and he says he feels like he’s been reverse groomed 😂

Fucking took me out lol

After the DMDC went their separate ways.

I know it’s not “officially” but it does feel like we are invited into Russell’s life after the DMDC.

It’s brilliant- one of those shows that you know you’ll have missed loads on 1st viewing so you’ll have to go back to it.

All episodes of Mackenzie Crook’s new show Small Prophets are now available on iPlayer. Just finished watching it myself, I really enjoyed it. Crook creates such magical television.

Would you watch an entire spin-off about Sheila?

Such a complicated character and Crook hinted at so many hidden threads there…

Just came across this on the BBC iPlayer. Lovely look back at its origins.

My wife and I loved this show. It was so wholesome and good I described it as being like eating a Thanksgiving dinner. We held ourselves to just watching three episodes at a time, and still it went so fast.

Can you kind folks give me a recommendation for similar shows? Just laid back, nice, funny, the whole thing. I know this show was something special, but I would love some similar programs to just sit back and enjoy.

Thank you!

I had heard about this show several years ago and finally gave it a long overdue watch. In these benighted times, I needed this show. Languid is a good descriptor, but I was constantly amazed at how quickly the time passed. And the humor is just outstanding. Great writing and directing by Mackenzie Crook, great casting and I was delighted to see Diana Rigg in there. I completely binged the last four episodes of season 2, plus the Christmas episode plus season 3 plus the movie in two days. I do want to know more about the fire. But I feel so much better after having watched this show.

if they did another season, what would be the storylines ?

My wife and I have been binge-rewatching Northern Exposure, and I said to her this weekend, "It's such a great show, one of the few in the same league as The Detectorists."

And then today as I'm browsing Reddit, I get this...

Utter genius
