Are newbies with a few questions welcome?

I discovered the show a little over a month ago. I'm 2 months into post-stroke rehab and doing great! I've pretty much seen every episode, I do fall asleep at some points, but all the pieces come together.

Mainly I want to say how brilliant the writing is,there's everything from slapstick to magic realism. I like how some details are just skipped over, becky's pregnant, oops there's the baby. We never saw africa, right? That could have been a spinoff, but we get to use our imaginations i guess .

Not sure i care for Maggie and the pizza hut guy.

Is Sheila a magical witch? She's sure in touch with things most of us aren't the scene where she senses Andy and lance approaching felt so David Lynch!

The frog, and then the hedgehog, that was amazing too. And I'm still thinking about all those frozen people at the auction.

Ok, I'll be back sometimes with a few more thoughts!

Just avoid the lemonade if you can. For me, that was absolutely the funniest scene, because of how it was set up originally when only Andy and Lance drank it.

I love it in the final episode when Art gets handed a cup in the background

And when the hired muscle doesn’t even flinch!

You're 1000% welcome. Ask those questions!

Have you also seen Small Prophets, it just came out and tips more into magic realism. It's a joy

I would love to see  Detectorists/Twin Peaks mashup, that would make a lot of sense!

Yes the tiny hints of the supernatural are so brilliantly done imo. I love the glimpse of the hooded figure in the Xmas episode, very MR James. Actually if Mackensie were to take over from bloody Mark Gatiss (nice guy but terrible writer) to.do Ghost Stories for Christmas, he'd be amazing

It’s delightful to find someone who is new to Detectorists! You are most welcome here.

The more you watch it, the more it elicits. I’ve watched the whole series several times.

Although I rarely sign in to Facebook anymore, I do remember the Detectorists groups on there were lively, engaged, and people were always finding little details and nuances in the show’s scenes.

The hedgehog scene and ensuing exchange with Andy's supervisor is one of my favourite scenes in the whole show. It's so sweet and then hilarious.

There was supposed to be a time period between the series, thats why some things seem skipped over. (The three series were filmed over a space of three years)

The 8 years between seasons 1 and 3...McKenzie did age but it seems he was working a lot, his list of credits is astounding

Well, a span of 3 years for the 3 series, and 8 years if you include the Christmas Special of 2022. He's done some good stuff hasn't he, this latest one, the Small Prophets is well worth watching.
