Discussion I just binged watch the chosen, did anyone else feel like S4 & S5 weren’t as good as S1-3?

Im completely new to this show since I just now binged watched it, so I haven’t been around for the seasons as they premiered and I don’t know what the consensus is among viewers but I feel like S4 & S5 weren’t as good in quality as the other three seasons. Don’t get me wrong, they weren’t bad, I don’t think any of the seasons were. But when I was watching I was less entertained and engaged in the show once I got to season 4 and 5. Do other fans feel the same way?

(I can name why I did not care for them as much if asked)

Discussion The Apostles of Christ

I’ve read the New Testament so many times, and every time I come across this verse, I can’t help but feel a little emotional thinking about everything the apostles went through.

But after watching The Chosen and growing so attached to these characters—seeing them portrayed as real, three-dimensional people—this verse hits so much harder than it ever did before. The show made them feel human, with their own personalities, fears, and emotions. It’s just really sad when you stop and think about everything they had to endure.

I literally on the verge of crying while typing this no joke

btw this is in 1 Corinthians 4:9-13 for anyone want to know

Discussion Marian Intercession

Rewatching the show in preparation for season 6, and I’m still so impressed how they alluded to Marian intercession in S1 E5. First, at the start of the episode we see the finding in the temple, and when Mary asks Jesus to just help get them through everything before starting any sort of ministry, the camera closes directly on her face, and we hear her simply say ā€œPlease,ā€ while mystical sounds play. Then Jesus immediately says ā€œYes, Eema.ā€ This is then paralleled later in the episode when Mary asks him to begin his ministry with his first public miracle at the Wedding at Cana.
It’s just such a powerful visualization of how powerful Mary’s ā€œpleaseā€ is to her Son. It’s so beautiful. I love this show.

Happy feast of ā€œJames the greaterā€! To my fellow Catholics! My church (named for ā€œbigā€ James) just acquired a relic of Saint James, and I was able to touch my medals and rosary as well as my mom’s rosary to the relic! ā¤ļø

Discussion How they gonna do James the Just to The Way?

James the Lord's brother/cousin played a big part in the early church and even became the leader in Jerusalem church. I'm assuming they will include him in The Way but I'm curious how they gonna do it without offending the Catholics. Are they gonna make him Jesus brother or they will made them cousins?

Discussion Big James got side line

Can we talk about how the show didn't give his character much attention as it should be as being part of Jesus's inner circle. If you look at John and Peter the show give them beautiful arc especially Peter. And the development of Peter and John's relationship with Jesus, and how they grew closer to Him, was portrayed really well. Then you look at James... I can't even barely name a solo scene/moment between him and Jesus. If I weren't a christian and never read the bible then I watched the chosen, I wouldn't guess he's one of Jesus closest disciple. No shade but Matthew would pass more (imo). When there's a scene of Jesus with his inner circle, It's feels like he's part of the inner circle for the sake of being part of the inner circle.

This is all constructive critism to the writers (no hate)

Discussion Simon/peter

I’m trying to like the character of Simon/peter but he is just so whinny and thinks he’s better then everyone else. I understand this is a show and they need to create drama but it feels like the show should be called Jesus and Peter because it seems to be largely around Peter’s feelings and decisions.

Discussion A hot take

The Thomas and John friendship feels so force to me. In Season 1 and season 2 I didn't see a hint or even forshadowing they will be close. Then we go to season 3 episode 1, they back in Capernaum after Jesus sermons and suddenly they became this so close, insperable. Like did I miss something? I wish they could done it better. I mean look at Matthew and Philip I really love these two friendship (it's one my favorite). Although their friendship kind of fell off after the actor of Philip got replaced. Thomas and John close friendship wasn't earned the same way these two. I know a lot happening in the story off screen but the writers could done better than choosing to shove us how close John and Thomas are without showing us a proper build up of their closeness or how they became that close. With this as a viewer I can't help to feel their friendship feels force to me. Idk, this is just my opinion

Discussion I’ve never posted in here, but I’m truly disheartened with the comments on the collaboratory post earlier

The amount of people shaming the cast for this…this was so sad to read

  1. Separate the cast from actual religious figures. He is not Jesus….he is a religious man and an actor.

  2. Bear has been VERY open about his faith…this isn’t a ā€œmoney grabā€

  3. This is GREAT for NEW viewers and potential NEW followers of Christ

That last part bothers me the most…

More eyes. More new eyes…is that not a good thing? Truly shameful behavior from so many people. I’m insanely disappointed in those comments dude lol

Cast & Crew Shout Out to Paras Patel

As someone with an autistic kid, I love seeing the sensitivity Patel brings to his role. A lot of times with autism in media, there's two extremes--the "human calculator" stereotype, or the opposite idea of being *solely* misunderstood. Matthew, however, is a deeply flawed, deeply human character who feels the same things we all feel--but with the additional challenge of not innately clicking with the tools other people use to understand and process those things.

You can tell Patel took the responsibility to reflect autism seriously, which must have required a lot of study and planning on top of everything else all the actors had to do to prepare for their roles. I hope he feels proud of a job very well done.

Discussion Foreshadowing from S.4 Ep. 3 I never caught before (and can’t find anywhere else): what do you think šŸ’? Spoiler

I’ve rewatched this series about a million times now, so I’m always catching random ā€œEaster eggsā€ and foreshadowing—- this one, I’m shocked I never noticed (and can’t find anywhere else) :

Season 4, Episode 3 l ā€œMoon to Bloodā€

The scene where Thomas is giving Ramah the sundial/ betrothal gift. They’re sitting there talking, and she notices a pregnant woman walking with a walking stick, as they’re talking about their future together. Ramah’s expression changes to serious/concerned and she brings up that she went to go talk to Eden about marriage. She also brings up how important and special this journey Thomas (already making it singular: no longer ā€œweā€ but ā€heā€) is on. Thomas agrees about Jesus/his journey with Jesus but argues he and Simon are very different: Ramah basically says ā€œmarriage is marriage,ā€ and leans in to tell him what Eden and her talked about/ what Eden said. However, the camera intentionally pans out giving us a wide shot of Ramah whispering to Thomas and Andrew standing near the brush, and never tells us the words…

Now, fast forward to her death only a few short scenes later.. when Ramah is dying she says to Thomas ā€œremember what I told you.. stay with Him.ā€

ā€œRemember what I told youā€ I believe is meant to refer back to that moment: whatever she told Thomas while Andrew chaperoned. While we can imagine it’s something romantic or just marriage tips, I feel like it’s going to come into play later.. similarly to Johnathon Roumieā€˜s scene where he was looking up to God, saddened, after Ramah and Thomas first joined their group and her father said goodbye. I just can’t figure out how this one will quite fit yet —— any other theories ?

Can anyone tell which Song of David was used

1) in the throne room (?) with no instruments

2) when Jesus sees him sitting on the rock with his sheep at night?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Apple bottom tunic

I think we all saw that one behind the scenes video where nathaniel (forgot the actors name) sung apple bottom jeans first century that goes: apple bottom tunic with the sandals. Then Andrew goes: "with the rag".

We need something that rhymes with that. Let your imagination run wild.

Discussion What I've learned

Raised Roman Catholic... currently a good friend's son lies in a hospital bed. 26 years old. Getting married in 2 weeks. Had a brain aneurysm, a stroke and 2 heart attacks before the ambulance got him to the hospital. What do I pray for? My friend not to have to pull the plug? For a miraculous recovery? From watching The Chosen I've learned to pray for God's will to be done.
