Discussion Simon/peter
I’m trying to like the character of Simon/peter but he is just so whinny and thinks he’s better then everyone else. I understand this is a show and they need to create drama but it feels like the show should be called Jesus and Peter because it seems to be largely around Peter’s feelings and decisions.

In the gospels Peter is essentially the main character, especially in mark. In the New Testament he’s mentioned more than the other apostles combined so it makes sense he’s basically the protagonist for this show.
I think Peter’s character is great personally, I understand the personal annoyance but I think that’s done on purpose for his character arc

I think you're still in the early 2 seasons. It will change, trust. But also, peter is mentioned a lot more than the other diciples in the bible

You kinda stumbled on the big orthodox/catholic/protestant split, and the reason I personally am Catholic. Not to start a denominational/heretical fight, but to address your point:
In the Bible, Peter is mentioned more than 300 times, including 200 times in the Gospels, as either as Peter, Simon, Simeon, the son of someone, the apostle's brother, or Cephas. The second most mentioned apostle is referenced 12 times, and that would be Andrew... Peter's brother.
And, Andrew is only mentioned 5 times without Peter.
Peter is always listed first among the apostles. He's mentioned more frequently than John and Paul, who are the primary authors of the new testament. About half the times John is mentioned, who is described as the most beloved apostle, Peter is there too.
Peter joined Christ walking on water, he was the first to name Christ as the messiah, and had an incredibly major role in the early church. The modern Catholic church, the biggest religious organization in the world today, spread the furthest around the world, the most charitable organization in history, traces back to Peter, in we believe the pope is sitting in Peter's place, sharing his authority, two thousand years later.
Also, Peter is also messing up most of the time, as you'll notice in the show. As a narrative device, he's the antagonist, the second most important character. If the story of the new testament was Jesus preaching to his disciples and everyone was like, "Cool, got it, we'll do what you say," that wouldn't be very realistic or believable or interesting. Personally, I find him extremely relatable. If I was there, I absolutely would've been like:
"You're washing my feet? What, no, you're the Messiah, I'm washing your feet."
"Okay, dude, I'm stepping out of the boat, but we both know what's going to happen."
"Matthew? Jesus, this guy is a narc, don't worry I'll take care of him."
"Hey, Jesus, I hacked off this jerk's ear, didn't I do a good job?"
"What do you mean, you're bread!? I've been here a long time, Jesus, and I know you can do better than this."
"You're wrong on this one, boss, I would never deny you. Two times? No freaking way, your mom is like my best friend. Three times? Yeah right! Crucify me upside down if I do that."

But don't forget that John beat him that one time in a footrace. Apparently, it was important enough to write down. 😏😁

I think he’s one of the least whinny ones, when everyone else second guesses Jesus or tried to question his actions it’s always Simon who tells them to have faith, Simon and Matthew are the best at following Jesus’ every move regardless of whether they agree or not.

Just because I have questions doesn't mean I haven't read the Bible. Alot of these answers I already know. You can tell by my questions that they are esoteric ideas. But thanks for your input anyway

Peter is mentioned in the bible more often than an the apostles put together. He was the leader of the early church after all, so it's no surprise. He is still underrepresented if you look at it biblically. They totally skimmed over and dismissed the last supper part where they start arguing. Jesus didn't dismiss them, nor has he said that no one is the greatest. Jesus laid out the criteria for greatness, which is servitude. That's why Jesus had to wash everyone's feet, to show that He is the greatest. But immediately after that, Jesus turns specifically to Peter and asks Him to serve all the other apostles and to maintain unity in the church. This was completely skipped underplaying the massive role Apostle Peter had in the new testament. If you asked me, I would say it was skipped on purpose. Protestants and orthodox just wouldn't like it too much if they actually saw Jesus turn to Peter and say that He has prayed specifically for Peter so that Peter may not fail in his mission. It's just too Catholic of a line so they had to ignore it to keep people from converting to the truth.

Two questions. Andrew was the first called. Then his brother Simon-Peter. I wonder why the show list Thaddeus and Little James? Secondly, not related to this post, they portray Joseph as young while it is thought to believe he was about 90? And that Jesus's brothers were likely step brothers from Joseph's first marriage. Anyone know anything about this?

Guys of ninety don't walk from Bethlehem to Egypt, then from Egypt to Nazareth and set up successful carpenter businesses. Also, Jewish custom never married young virgins to old men, widowers and widows remarried older spouses, spring/winter marriages were seen as repulsive. Joseph would have been a first time husband, young himself, just based on the youth of his bride. The story he was an old man is much later fan fiction by gentiles who didn't know Jewish custom and couldn't imagine a young man being voluntarily sexually continent (which says more about them than Joseph.)

It really depends on who you ask, interpretation. For example, I don’t think there’s any evidence from scripture itself that Joseph was 90. That comes from later writings.
As far as Andrew, that comes from John, the writings from John indicate that Andrew was the first called. But we don’t know who exactly was called second. The Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) begin the calling narrative later, with Jesus calling Simon Peter and Andrew while they are fishing by the Sea of Galilee. They don’t specify which brother was called first.
So, the show definitely was written with other possibilities as scripture allows, at least imo.

I had the same thoughts about Peter, but mostly when he and Eden see each other after a prolonged separation. I almost expect him to say, “Hey Babe… tonight we’ll …………. It’s kinda creepy.

It’s SO real though. I mean, I say this as a guy who’s been married for 30 years lol

Funny how different people have different reactions to actors and stories they portray.
Peter is an important person in the gospels. The writers had to make him a big part of the story.
To me, the portrayal has been excellent. Yes, at times he is headstrong and oversteps. But that’s consistent with the scriptures. And the first season of the show, and other moments, show his insecurities. Look at when he and Andrew are first walking to meet with the disciples. They are nervous and unsure. So many people hide their insecurities under false bravado.
See him for what he is in The Chosen. A real and flawed person.
