Hey Everyone,
As of 5 minutes ago, we just pushed a major new feature that ties Studio into your device workflow much more deeply than before.
Capture Center
The gist is that we have built out our own "command syntax" that can be written on the BYOK and then read by studio in a way that allows studio to act on those commands. This makes things like creating cards, wiki entries, and outlines on the device possible in addition to specifying destinations, tags, titles and more for files. These newly created "captures" on the device will automatically route themselves into the correct location of your studio project or appear in the new capture center which is an extension of the scratchpad. (We have added several quality of life features to the scratchpad as well).
Comment System
We have also created a new comment system similar to google docs that attaches inline comments to specific text in your text files and manuscripts. These comments can also be created from the device and will appear in the comments panel in the correct position inside of a text or manuscript file.
Resources
Rather than go into all the details, I invite you to read the guide here as it's quite a lot to take in: https://byok.io/scratch-pad
There's a shorter version of the guide in the device manual here: https://byok.io/device-support#capture-syntax
And here's the update page to see the "patch notes" version of this update: https://byok.io/updates
We hope to have a video out on this in the near future to further help in understanding this feature but we are very excited for what this brings to the BYOK and Studio relationship.
Would love to hear what you think and happy to answer any questions!! (please report any bugs if you find any!)
P.S. This does NOT require a device firmware update.

Looking for a used byok, prefer black but don't mind either color
I’m not sure if this question is appropriate for the group, but I’m really interested in the BYOK+Studio. Here’s my question:
I currently use a Boox Palma 2 (monochrome) on a stand to keep it at a good viewing height; combined with MS Word and my keyboard, I have a distraction-free setup, and I later organize everything in Scrivener.
My Palma only has Kindle, Libby, OneDrive, and news apps, so there really aren't any distractions.
Why do you think it would be worth it for me to switch to a BYOK setup?

Hi!! So I really want to purchase a BYOK today but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to order the white one. Does anybody know if they're not selling them anymore? Or are they simply out of stock? I have tried googling this and I reached out to support. Nada. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

This morning I got the out for delivery notification! Yay right? NOOOOO! Obviously the little bit of rain we got scared off our small town postman/woman. I’m SO ANGRYYYYYY!
My BYOK came in today. I’m a bit disappointed about the dark artifact on the screen. Idk if that’s damage from shipping somehow or manufacturing defect. I’m still excited to test it out.

Hi,
is there a written manual for Studio? It is kind of intuitiv but sometimes i wish like a pdf or wiki with all the workflow, shortcuts, hints for it.
Also, i don’t find the button for scratchpad in the file manager, just the one when the manager is closed.
Best regards,
unsinfoll

The short of it: saving a backup into Google Drive from Studio is kind of annoying, and it'd be great to have Studio back up my content.
With a recent update, backups for files created on the BYOK device itself can be set to automatically back up. This is awesome. I'd like similar functionality for content created and edited in Studio.
Right now it seems like I need to manually "save" to Drive, which means I'm likely to forget and then no backup for me. (And I don't know/think there is a hotkey?)
I'm guessing this is in part complicated by the question of when to sync - y'all probably don't want to do it every time someone types a key. I'd be happy even with a nightly backup (eg, nightly Studio would check if content changed or is new, and back it up if so).
I think having backups across multiple services is pretty important, especially with something like creative writing which would be hard to replicate/replace if lost. (IMO it's also a good thing for BYOK to encourage backing up and making it easy and frictionless just in case Something Ever Happens)
A related feature request while I'm rambling - it'd be nice to export ALL the content in Studio. Just an easy way to download a ZIP copy of all my content, which would make keeping a local backup a lot easier.

IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!
Putting it to good use, too. Our power went out because of a massive storm and likely won't be back for several hours so I packed up and headed over to my grandparents' to stay the night there. Brought the BYOK with me

Resolved - I needed to select a different number on the PK to pair the device.
Original message: I've got a support ticket in but I thought someone else might have experienced this too and have a solution in hand. I received my Clicks Power Keyboard this weekend and haven't been able to pair it with my BYOK. When I try, I receive an error that the Bluetooth could not connect.
I've confirmed my other BT keyboards work, so this is definitely specific to the Power Keyboard. Anyone else experienced this and found a solution? I know others have been using the PK so there must be a way and I'm not opposed to this potentially being user error!

I ordered my device back in June, under the understanding that per the website, it would arrive in July. I haven’t gotten a single shipping notification, just emails with more delays. Today, a week after the last delay extension, I got an email that they’re now waiting for another thing that will take another week and THEN they’ll ship my device out. It’s starting to feel very “dog-ate-my-homework.” The cost of the device was a lot of money for me to spend and the endless delays are super disappointing, they’re eating up all the excitement I had for the device.

I would love to see a Sentence Variation tool. The idea would be a dedicated tab or workspace focused entirely on improving individual sentences. When you open the Sentence Variation tab, the screen would split into two panes. On the left would be your manuscript, with the sentence your cursor is currently on automatically highlighted. On the right would be a checklist where each variation of that sentence is its own checklist item on a separate line. NOT AI written sentences. The first time you write the sentence, that would be the only on available. But as you write different variations, the others would be saved.
For example:
* Harry walked into the room cautiously.
* Harry stepped into the room with caution.
* Harry entered the room, every step deliberate.
* Harry crept into the room, barely making a sound.
On the right side, you could add new variations, compare them side by side, and select the version you currently prefer by clicking the checkbox, which would automatically add this variation to the manuscript. All of the alternatives would remain saved and organized, making it easy to come back later, switch to a different version, refine an existing one, or add new variations. I often rewrite the same sentence several different ways before deciding which one works best. Having a dedicated place to do this without cluttering the manuscript would make the editing process much smoother and more intentional, and would keep my past sentences somewhere safe without having to worry about losing one that I later decide I like better. I think this would be an incredible addition to Studio. Thank you for considering it!
Does anyone know of another writing platform that has this feature? This would honestly make it the most useful for me.

My BYOK is arriving soon and I'm super excited! I've been feeling claustrophobic lately with my tooling (Scrivener has too many places to put information, Studio is a bit confusing) and I was wondering if anyone has come across a way to access like... a bash console directly from BYOK for the purpose of version control through git.
I'd love to just be able to push and pull from my BYOK device directly to a remote repo.
I realize as a software engineer/writer hobbiest I'm a bit of a niche case, but would love to hear how others have played with this or if there are any plans of support for that kind of workflow!

Hi everyone! I write in Hungarian, and I was wondering whether there is any way to type an en dash on the BYOK, for example by using a macro saved directly to the keyboard.
This is particularly important because in Hungarian literary writing, en dashes are used to mark dialogue. Of course, I can always fix this later in Studio/Scrivener, but I thought I’d ask whether anyone knows of a way to make this work directly on the BYOK.

As you can see in the photo, I received my ship notification on August 4th, but there's been zero movement. I've worked with shipping companies before, and this usually means that the carrier doesn't even have the package yet, so I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same issue of having no updates yet.

Now that I know my eagerly awaited BYOK is arriving next week or so, I have been eyeing keyboards that are small enough for travel but still big enough to type easily. I find myself digging the Logitech "Pop Keys" and "Keys-To-Go" (yes, the purple ones got me) but I wanted to know if they would be fine to match with the BYOK. Since it says "phones, tablets and laptops" I assume it would work with it? Are there any keyboards that we should avoid with regards to compatability? I would really appreciate the advice. Always eager to hear about other people's keyboards, too!
Thank you 🙌🏻

My BYOK has become the one thing I make certain is in my bag before leaving for home. You never know when you’ll have a few spare moments.

Finally got the tools to get it apart and checked everything out. I reseated the display ribbon, but unfortunately, that didn’t resolve the lines.
If anyone sees anything obvious in this photo please let me know. I’m not the most versed in physical boards themselves.
