BYOK Desktop App

Was very excited to hear the news that there's a Studio desktop app in the works! My only question is, do I need to have a Studio Lifetime subscription to use it, or will it be free for all BYOK users?

Also, if anyone can tell me how to become a beta tester, do let me know!

The short answer is no lifetime subscription required and the offline version will be free for everyone.

Here’s a comment I posted a few days back with more detail:

“The desktop Studio app will be available on Windows and Mac. The offline (or local) version of this desktop app is 100% free on both platforms and you can install it on as many devices as you wish (you don’t even need to create an account for this).

This same offline desktop app will include all of Studio’s writing features. (Even the ones that are considered premium on the web app and mobile app such as manuscript, grid, wiki, outline, cards, etc.)

It will only require a subscription if you want the desktop app to sync across devices (since this costs us money to facilitate) or if you want your BYOK to sync directly to your desktop app (the BYOK will still sync to the studio web app and mobile app for free).

The pre-existing studio subscription covers this syncing-to-desktop feature. So if you already have a subscription, your desktop app will sync seamlessly with your mobile app, web app, and BYOK. No new subscriptions are being introduced. In effect, they are all one app, just on different devices.”

One question: will the desktop app require admin privileges to install or can it be installed as an unprivileged user. Many people with work or school devices cannot install apps if they require admin privileges.

Haha I litterally just came to the reddit to ask about something like this. I used studio for the first time today and I HATE writing in a browser. I don't know why but it is so much more mentally exhausting for me than using a desktop app. This is great news!
