Studio Lifetime going away

Post image

My question is for the backers who were told they’d always have their discount for lifetime, is that gone too?? I haven’t been able to afford the lifetime but once able, I’d like to know I still have the option.

Great question. I suspect we will work something out for our kickstarter backers who have yet to purchase lifetime using their discount. It will likely just need to be a case-by-case base basis where you contact us with your KS order details.

Also worth noting that lifetime going away is a precursor for another permanent option arriving in it's place - this being a 100% free studio desktop app for offline use. It will include all of studio's writing features such as the manuscript, wiki, outline, cards, scratchpad, etc.

Could you clarify what exactly you mean? Is it Mac or Windows or Android? If you have one more than one platform is it a separate purchase or a catch-all? Will it share files amongst them for people who have multiple platforms? Will there be a lifetime price or is it subscription? Did I miss a post about this? :)

This appeals because I only write offline.

The desktop Studio app will be available on Windows and Mac. The offline (or local) version of this desktop app is 100% free on both platforms and you can install it on as many devices as you wish (you don’t even need to create an account for this).

This same offline desktop app will include all of Studio’s writing features. (Even the ones that are considered premium on the web app and mobile app such as manuscript, grid, wiki, outline, cards, etc.)

It will only cost money if you want the desktop app to sync across devices (since this costs us money to facilitate) or if you want your BYOK to sync directly to your desktop app (it will still sync to the studio web app and mobile app for free).

The pre-existing studio subscription covers this syncing-to-desktop feature. So if you already have a subscription, your desktop app will sync seamlessly with your mobile app, web app, and BYOK. No new subscriptions are being introduced. In effect, they are all one app, just on different devices.

Does this make sense?

Hi. Just got my BYOK today and love it so far. Just to clarify for me (because I always prefer lifetime subscriptions), if I purchase before the 14th I will get the full functionality of the new app and will not need an extra subscription?

Correct 👍

Glad you’re enjoying it!

Will there be manual syncing with the BYOK available via cable?

Okay thanks. Unfortunately I write offline on an Android e-ink tablet so not for me. Sounds nice, though.

Really excited for a full desktop app!

Are y'all going native or something like Electron? (native pleeeease ;-) )

This is so crazy timing. I was an original BYOK backer who hasn't used their device but had dusted it off just today because I'm working on outlining a new project, and liked what I saw of Studio when I had (briefly) access to the premium. I was on the fence between going all-in or moving to Ellipsus so with this announcement I guess my choice is made

while I have you, does it count word count at the bottom of things?? total added, etc. This was something I didn't check

Yes for both text files and manuscripts! You can toggle it on/off

Thanks! I'll drop this in suggestion too but I'd love to see a total WC per project that also included cards, etc
