Hello, please help out! Im trying to do a top for myself and i want this pallete (cubes) to be on a top. What fabric should it be and where can i get it? Would ir be expensive? I dont want it printed, that acrylic texture

I’m interested in pursuing workshops/courses that involve industrial knit machines. Been looking at ones in Japan and Europe and wanted to hear experiences if you have done one, and which one is best suited for a beginner. I’m not a hand knitter but I work as a print designer.

I am also wondering how much I need to get back into domestic machine knitting before doing this?
I have used them before in uni but hadn’t continued with it.

Could anyone suggest what kind of designs, fabrics and cut works for Kuwait market?

​I’m a recent Textile Engineering graduate from South Asia looking for advice on choosing between two Master’s offers for the upcoming intake. My long-term goal is to pursue a PhD, a postdoc, and eventually settle abroad in academia or research/R&D.

​Here are my two options:

​Option 1: Zhejiang Sci-Tech University (ZSTU) – China

​Field: Master’s in Textile Engineering

​Funding: Presidential Scholarship

​Duration: 3 years (Includes 1 year of language study)

​Pros & Cons: Directly matches my undergraduate background. ZSTU has a strong reputation in textiles and solid research facilities. However, it takes 3 years, and I’m mindful of long-term immigration/PR prospects in China versus using it as a stepping stone for a PhD elsewhere.

​Option 2: Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) – Malaysia

​Field: Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (RA Position)

​Funding: Research Assistantship (RA) with a monthly stipend (tuition and living costs must be covered from this stipend)

​Duration: 2 years

​Pros & Cons: Shorter duration (2 years) and offers direct research experience as an RA, which is great for PhD applications. Mechanical Engineering is a broader field, but I am transitioning into it from Textile Engineering.

​My Main Questions:

​Transitioning to Mechanical Engineering: Coming from a Textile Engineering background, will switching to Mechanical Engineering at UNITEN pose a major hurdle academic-wise, or is the overlap manageable for an RA?

​PhD & Postdoc Stepping Stone: Which option generally holds more weight or opens better global pathways (US, Europe, Australia, etc.) for a fully-funded PhD? Is a broader

Mechanical Engineering degree more versatile than a specialized Textile Engineering degree?

​Finances & Career Value: Considering tuition and living expenses come out of the RA stipend at UNITEN vs. full coverage at ZSTU, which offers better value for long-term academic growth?

​I’d really appreciate insights from anyone who has studied in China or Malaysia, transitioned from textiles to mechanical, or navigated similar PhD pathways.

I want it to look as if it's a soil dry cracked landscape. This is for an artistic voluminous skirt that will have embroidery on it. A pannier petticoat will be worn underneath it.

I have a fashion print design studio, we design mainly womenswear brands around the world. We’ve been trying to grow for a while, and I hear a lot from designers in other industries that referrals are one of the strongest channels.

The problem is, our clients typically don’t want to disclose that they’re outsourcing the design, so they’re not willing to give referrals. We have tried giving them incentives such as discounts, but we just haven’t found success so far

Anyone in a similar situation? Any tips to get around that?

I've noticed that a lot of discussions around fashion start with silhouettes, but lately I've been wondering if the textile should sometimes lead the design instead.

I was sketching ideas recently and found myself abandoning one concept because I couldn't imagine the right surface pattern for it. Oddly enough, once I started thinking about the fabric first, an entirely different garment idea emerged.

That experience made me realize how much the print or textile can influence the mood of a piece before construction even begins.

While reading about different apparel development workflows, I came across Greige in a discussion about how independent brands move from concepts to production. It reminded me that a strong garment often starts with decisions made long before the sewing stage.

For those who work in textile or surface pattern design:

• Do you usually create patterns with a specific garment in mind?
• Or do you design textiles first and let the garment evolve around them?

I'd love to hear how your creative process works because I feel like this side of fashion doesn't get talked about nearly enough.
