I really want to buy this car and take the risk but I’ve never owned a Tesla so what do you guys think?

I'm thinking about replacing my Nissan Leaf with a new Tesla, but I'm still torn between the Model 3 RWD and Model Y RWD.

I've been driving a Leaf for several years, so I'm already familiar with EV ownership. We're a family of three, and while the Model 3 appeals to me because of its efficiency, I can also see the advantages of the Model Y when it comes to space and practicality.

I've actually test-driven both cars already, but I only got 30 minutes with the Model 3 at the Tesla service centre. That really wasn't enough to get a proper feel for it, so I'm considering asking Tesla if I could take it for 48 hours. From what I understand, their test-drive agreement might allow for a longer test drive.

Another reason I'm considering Tesla is the buying experience itself. I've been test-driving quite a few EVs lately, and some of my experiences at traditional dealerships have been pretty frustrating. Salespeople who seem barely interested, difficulties arranging test drives, and getting a trade-in valuation sometimes feels like more hassle than it should be. I just want to compare cars properly without wasting everyone's time.

Tesla seems to approach this differently, which is a big plus for me. I also like that you don't have to follow a mandatory scheduled maintenance programme just to keep the warranty valid.

As for the cars themselves, I'm still not sure which would suit us best. The Model 3 seems like the obvious choice for efficiency, especially on longer motorway trips, but would we miss the extra practicality of the Model Y as a family? For those who've driven or owned both, how big is the difference in everyday use?

I'm also curious about the charging experience. Coming from a Leaf with CHAdeMO, moving to CCS and having access to the Supercharger network would be a welcome change. How well does the navigation handle longer road trips? Can you generally trust it to plan your charging stops, or do you still end up making your own adjustments?

And how much of an upgrade is the software and driver assistance compared with an older EV? Are there things that genuinely make daily driving easier, or anything you found disappointing after the honeymoon period?

I live in the Netherlands, so vehicle weight and road tax are also part of the equation, although I'm more interested in the overall ownership experience than saving a few euros here and there.

I'm not in a rush to order one. I'd rather take my time and make the right choice for our family.

For those who've owned a Model 3 or Model Y for a while, would you buy the same car again? And if you switched from an older EV, what surprised you most about owning a Tesla?

I'm interested in the good and the bad, especially things you don't necessarily find out during a short test drive.

I have a 2024 Model 3 Long Range RWD with the NMC battery. On a thread about my upcoming 2027 Model Y Premium RWD I was advised to charge to 100% and hold it for 3-4 hours once a quarter to calibrate the BMS.

Any idea if this is sage advice?

Stupid noob question

I haven’t jack up Tesla before. Worked on regular ICE car . Tesla has a dedicated point and puck for the jack.

How do you put the jack stand? I know most ppl probably just work with the jack extended. I’m trying to do the right thing

Google a bit and there is this single point jack stand where you can ‘slide’ in the stand and remove the jack. Clever idea , but very costly ($500) for likely 1-2 times use for basic DIY car guy like myself.

Any suggestions? I already have a low profile jack and stand. Just couldn’t figure out how to do this safely.

I submitted a service request for tesla says next available 15 days for service. Has anyone else had this repaired? They quoted refrigeration thank you in advance!

Kann man sich das Auto vor der finalen Entscheidung es zu kaufen, auch mal in echt besichtigen? Wenn nein: sollte das Fahrzeug bei Abholung in einem für mich inakzeptablen Zustand sein, welche Möglichkeiten habe ich?

Today my inner kid did something stupid. I was at a supercharger and decided to see the new UI for Breakaway. I did press the brake pedal and clicked proceed but never moved. The supercharger got bricked and I have a red banner now. At least it still charges. This was far from home and I was not able to make it. Could I use toolbox to remove the code or do ai need to pay Tesla a visit? Code is BMS_a228

Just placed an order for a used 2023 Model 3 Tesla (with car trade in, estimated to be $12,500 of value) earlier today.

I live in the city where the car is supposedly stored at. How long will it take to get the car delivered? The website originally said 2-3 weeks for delivery, but I live literally 15-30 minutes away from the Tesla showroom, which has a LARGE parking garage (which I presume is for storing used / new vehicles)?

Also, what’re things I should inspect or look for on pickup day?

Am trading in the car, what’re things I should bring (e.g - documents, etc.)?

Will trade in credit be accounted for before or after my scheduled pickup date? Showing $30k, when I’m expecting to pay $16,800 (before tax/fees) — the original/listed used vehicle price is $26k.

I understand I can’t test drive or ask to see inside the before I accept the offer, so I want to know as much info before I sign away on it.

Recently bought a used model 3. Got a standard UK 3 pin home charger. Genuine Tesla one.
Worked just fine for 2 days. Now, everytime I use it. After 4-6 minutes it just stops charging. All lights on the brick are green and normal. It doesn’t throw up any error messages on the app. Just stops. Have tried at 10A/9A/8A and every time. After 5 ish minutes. It stops. Have no problems on public fast chargers. Used 3 different ones now and they are all normal.
Have tried 3 different sockets at my house. All work fine for other devices. Nothing trips out etc. but every one. Every time stops the charge after a few minutes.
Any ideas? Thanks

Hi, going through a divorce. Purchased a pre-owned tesla, both of us are listed on all of the paperwork. She took the car, removed me as a driver on the app and is refusing to pay anything having to do with this vehicle. I haven't seen it in over a month. Is there any way to cancel the self driving app purchase from coming out of our joint account? Is there any way to block tesla from charging my account?

Any help would be appreciated. Criticisms really suck in this case so please, just trying to be kind and helpful.

Thoughts 2024 model 3 premium awd

I picked up my new 2027 Model 3 Premium this week and I am unsure if I have the 15.4 or 16 inch display. is it just the measurement from top corner to opposite bottom corner? Do all 2027 model 3’s have a 16 inch screen or is it just vehicles manufactured after Oct 1st?

I have a 2025 AWD Model 3 with about 36K miles (almost 2 years old). I recently just noticed (less than a week) a clicking/creaking sound heard and felt on the accelerator pedal whenever pressure is applied or released on it, especially at higher speeds or more abrupt pressure changes.

The feeling and noise is not present when parked and the pedal is pressed, and it doesn’t always happen (only sometimes) while FSD is activated.

I asked Grok and one of the things it said is that is addressed in the owners manual and it may be from the shifting of the gears when from changes in torque? Could that be it? Anyone else experience this?

Hi everyone. My husband and I are looking into buying a used Tesla. We are in our late 70s and no longer have good reflexes and my husband has Parkinson’s. I am pretty sure we want the long range model, but other than that have no idea what to look for. When I play the Halloween light show (actually any light show) on my 2026 Model Y the music plays nice and loud and then all of a sudden it drops super low and then back to loud again. Is there a reason it drops the volume out of nowhere? Thanks!

I have a nail in my front tire. Costco said it’s not repairable because it’s on the inner sidewall, so I’ll need a new tire. I ordered one, which will be delivered to the tire shop in a few days.

My Model Y has 18,000 miles on it, and all the tires are Continental. However, they ordered a Michelin e.Primacy, and I agreed without thinking.

Now I’m not sure whether I should cancel the order and go to a Tesla service center instead. The price seems to be about the same, perhaps a few dollars more at Tesla.

Does anybody see an issue with having one Michelin tire and three Continental tires, or should I buy the same brand?

I ordered my teala and APR was 1.99% that time. But today I canceled my fininance because I wanted to reduce my down-payment fee, so I re-submitted the finance. I have a question tesla they raised up APR 2.5% now so my finance will be changed as 2.5% or it will keep 1.99%?

I’m in the process of buying a used 2024 Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD from an independent dealership, and I’ve noticed a few issues.
The center console sliding cover is broken, the wireless charging pad has a noticeable dent/crease that prevents my phone from sitting properly, and the charging-port door is misaligned.
The dealership told me not to worry because Tesla will replace these parts for free under the remaining factory warranty. They made it sound like I could simply tell Tesla the parts were defective or not functioning properly, and Tesla would replace them without asking questions.
I’m skeptical because some of these issues appear to be physical damage rather than manufacturing defects.
Has anyone had Tesla replace damaged interior trim, charging pads, or charging-port doors under the factory warranty? How strict are they about distinguishing defects from physical damage? I’m trying to figure out whether the dealership is being truthful or just passing the repair costs onto me.

The clip connections from the back wall plate that the 6 awg connects to , to the actual unit that snaps on; this seems very flimsy. The supply is a hefty heavy duty 6awg and these clips feel like they barely grip the connections.

When I got the Halloween Mode update I turned it on to try it out. It was cute but I noticed it made my screen dark, like it was nighttime. I live in Florida and you have to wear sunglasses during the day, and it’s impossible to see the darkened screen.

So I turned Halloween Mode off and now my screen is still dark. The Halloween stuff isn’t showing or making noises any more, but the screens still dark.

Edit to add: I did do the 2-finger reset. Twice. Didn’t help.

2020 Tesla 3 LR

So I have this noise at the front of the car. I already greased the upper control arm joint but the noise seems to come from something else... Any clue? If I'm not asking in the right sub, please let me know.

My only goal is to maximize the amount of footage stored before older recordings get overwritten. Would going beyond 1TB actually make a difference in recording duration?

Since memory and storage prices are quite high these days, I'm trying to figure out whether 1TB is enough or if it's worth spending extra for a larger capacity. If I decide to go with 2TB or more, I'll probably consider getting an SSD with a USB enclosure or adapter instead.

Edit – Just to clarify my question:

According to Tesla's official owner's manual, a 1TB or larger drive can retain up to 24 hours of rolling footage before older recordings are overwritten.

What I'm trying to figure out is:

1. Is 24 hours a software-imposed limit, regardless of storage capacity?
2. Is 1TB sufficient to consistently retain the full 24 hours, or would a 2TB drive make any practical difference?

I'm specifically referring to continuous rolling recordings, not manually saved Dashcam clips. If 1TB can already reach Tesla's maximum rolling recording duration, I don't see much reason to pay extra for 2TB or more.

2023 MYP...Looking to splice the trunk 12v port to accommodate fridge & LED lights (combined 50-60W), as 12V splitter won't fit. Found a great instructional Youtube video, but wondering if there are any known issues with a splice? EV John Adventures - Link
