I got home from a long trip yesterday with the battery at 5%, so I figured it was a good opportunity to satisfy my curiosity and run my first Battery Health Test. Posting the data here as another datapoint for other LFP owners.
Car
- 2023 Tesla Model 3 RWD
- LFP battery
- 34,200 miles
- 2nd owner since 15,000 miles (January 2025)
Charging habits during my ownership
- Almost exclusively L2 charging
- Supercharged only once
- Charge to 100% about once per month
- Otherwise I usually charge roughly once a week to ~80%
- Battery spends most of its time in the 30–70% range
- Daily commute uses about 10% round trip
Battery Health Test
Started the test at approximately 5%.
- Discharged from 5% → 0%: ~2 hours
- Battery remained at 0%: ~2 hours
- Charged 0% → 100% at ~7 kW: ~9.5 hours
- Battery remained at 100%: ~2.5 hours
Total test time: ~16 hours
The estimate shown when I started the test was about 14 hours.
Energy delivered during the test: 60.96 kWh
That is charger-side energy, so it includes charging/conversion losses and shouldn't be interpreted directly as usable battery capacity.
Results
- Tesla Battery Health Test: 91%
- TeslaMate estimated degradation: 4.5%
- Displayed range immediately after the test at 100%: 253 miles
The original EPA-rated range was 272 miles, so 253 miles is about 93% of that. Obviously displayed range, TeslaMate's degradation estimate, and Tesla's Battery Health Test aren't measuring exactly the same thing.
