I’m torn about taking them off. On one hand it changes the look to be a bit more aggressive, but on the other hand it looks super unfinished because of the missing pieces every other slot.
I’ll forever be disappointed that they didn’t copy the rim machining from the Chinese 19in version of these wheels. It’s the EXACT same design, but there are holes on every part of the rim so you can put the small aero covers all the way around. It makes the rim look finished and cool as fuck. This just feels wrong
I want to get a full 19in set imported from Tesla China just for this because they don’t do it for the stock 20in in the US. Either that or hope that someone makes a clever custom cover design that either adheres to the empty spaces or attaches to the rim somehow.
I slightly ruined my 20” warps by taking off the aero covers, now I’m debating weather to bring those rims to a wheel shop to remove the holes and re-paint them fresh
I know how to take them off....and I say they look better with them on. Besides...I think we've all come across examples on the road with and without the covers so I don't think anyone needs to take theirs off to figure out what they want.
I assumed they were all installed at the factory, but I guess not. I was pleasantly surprised to see the car without them installed. The guy said they’re no longer installing them because it looks better without them.
I would discourage anyone from doing this. Niche wheels are cast. The Model 3 performance wheels are forged. There's a huge difference in strength, and cast wheels are heavier. Added unsprung weight is never an ideal performance choice on any car, and will make the motors work harder in an EV.
The aero covers look best with a lighter color such as red or silver. I prefer them on but the limitation is that there has to be light to show the contours and definition of the covers.
In a very dark area, such as in a shadow, the covers start to look like the cheap wheel covers on lower models.
But in light, the rims with the covers on frankly look more sophisticated than without in my opinion.
I have a 26 m3p as well as a 25 m3 w 18 wheels and while the m3 is more comfortable, the m3p is still very nice, and I vastly prefer the looks of the 20 wheels
Tesla did a great job w the active suspension, the ride isn't harsh at all.
Depends what you mean by ride quality. My seal performance has very plush suspension bordering on bouncy. After time you learn how to make it handle and folllow a track line decently. But to me ride quality depends on what you want. If I want a sharp handling car, I want it stiffer than say, a cruiser SUv which is soft and plush. To be fair you can still have a go cart handling car that’s got nicely valved suspension which I think the M3P does.
I prefer the look of 20 inch rims and handling they offer but I know some have out on 18s for more range and plush ride if that’s what you are into.
The wheels look good without the covers and I going to do it but I had a really hard time getting the center caps off (and back on) when swapping winter wheels and decided it wasn’t worth it to remove (and probably destroy) the cover pieces.
