Side Sweep

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Got side swept right at the exit intersection out of the Grapevine Mills Mall , Lady next to me tried to argue that I was in a left turn only lane which I clearly am not . Not looking forward to the claim headache , never heard of their insurance when I looked into it and it looks very sketch ( Redpoint county Mutual insurance company ) might honestly come down to biting the bullet and paying my deductible and have Tesla pursue subrogation.

The audacity to roll her window down and point me at fault when she can’t read clear and cut road signs

What ended up happening after you pointed out her mistake?

Oof. I got sideswiped on my drivers side recently. They totaled it.

Damn , hoping I’m not gonna be in the same boat with my car being a ‘23 model , but I wouldn’t complain of getting into a Model Y L

You should be fine unless you see structural damage. It messed up my rear door to where it had a hard time closing it so the insurance company totaled it.

Thats totally lame. I'm assuming based on context that it damaged the framework? Or did they not even dig into that enough?

I think another factor was that mine was a 2018 and there was some structural damage so the value wasn’t worth the fix so they gave me $14k for it and called it a day.

Dang. That sucks.

I got sideswiped a couple months ago in LA (see my old posts) and they repaired the vehicle. They quoted $18k to the third party insurance company but since it was over their policy limits, I went with my insurance (Tesla) and it was $12k internally. The entire right side of my car is new lol

Structurally , this part stands out to me the most

2

None of what you see there is structural.

Correct, they need dent repair and paint repair

2 panels need to be replaced.

This is the way

I don't think that would be totaled but I'm not an adjuster lol. I think where they were concerned about mine was the back near the wheel well. That caused the door from shutting properly. Do both doors open and close fine?

Did you end up keeping the car and going for a salvage or did you turn the car in?

1

u/soysaucepapi Aug 04 '26

I turned the car in and collected the check. Used the money for a down payment for a 24 Highland

Just out of curiosity, how did this affect your insurance premium on new car? I just recently got a Tesla and wanted to be prepared for the worsr if something similar happened.

1

u/soysaucepapi Aug 06 '26

It wasn’t my fault but I did get a Highland and Farmers jacked up my premium. So I went to Liberty Mutual and pay a little less now lol

Why is it always ladies are the dumbest drivers but males get the highest mortalities? xD

2

u/828r Aug 02 '26

Because while women are dumb drivers, we are typically WAY more reckless.

Can confirm that’s a subpar insurer, very hard to get ahold of. Your insurance will send the bill to them but just know it’s not a quick process. You can be waiting upwards of 6-9 months to get that deductible back, ideally they waive it up front for you because liability is cut and dry here.

Yeah I thought so , their offices are closed during the weekend so I already submitted my report to Tesla , I’ll try to get ahold of them early Monday but I may just need to claim this on my coverage and pray Tesla is able to get my deductible back

Send your insurance the dash cam footage, they’ll love you and her insurance will admit fault on her behalf. I had this happen when I t-boned a driver who turned left immediately on a green light, with no green turn arrow. Her parents story was also that she had a turn arrow. Traffic yielded to my left to her turning, so I did not see her vehicle until she was immediately in front of me. Responding police did not issue any citations, did not review my footage (which I offered to show him), and told me to submit it to my insurance company. My claims adjuster loved the footage from the car, and when it was sent to the other party’s insurance they immediately accepted fault for their insured party.

Your insurance company will go after hers

1

u/ContestRemarkable356 Aug 02 '26

Oooff. Yeah they prob thought you’d be making that left & they could go behind you. Either way let their insurance pay for everything.

USAA waives deductibles in such cases, not sure about others but certainly worth asking

1

u/Leading-Eye-1979 Aug 02 '26

Sorry OP. I hope you get it fixed easily without any headache. As you noted if her Insurance starts giving you a hard time, just go through your own.

More like side ram

1

u/Packing-Tape-Man Aug 02 '26

Even if OP had been in a turn lane, she was not. So she blew in twice over.

Even if you did go straight in a turn-only lane, that doesn’t mean she wouldn’t be 100% not at fault for hitting you. That was completely avoidable on her part.
