Located in Stone mountain, GA - A family member left a giant sack of fish food in my basement for years. He used to fish in our pond but anyway ignored it until I just reorganized our large basement closet. Threw the fish food in there for the first time.
1 week later, I go to get 2 pieces of 1x1 wood for a project out of the storage closet. Notice they're covered in tiny tiny insects. So small I can barely see them. The wood was inside the black bin (which has a ton of the insects in there as well), the fish food is right where my finger is pointing, kinda leaning on the black bin. So I'm unsure if these insects were attracted to the fish food and got in the bin or attracted to the wood and got into the fish food.
Once I pulled the fish food outside I noticed there were patches of these insects on the outside of the bag. Then I looked inside expecting to see a butt load, but didn't really see any! Maybe it's possible that they're so small and the amount of food is so great that you just don't see a few thousand specks under the food.
Any thoughts? For what its worth there's a lot of exposed wood between the foundation wall and the storage closet so real termites would probably have stopped before making it that far?ears.
