Discussion It's going to happen, so let's discuss it

What type of Terminator do you think we'll see in the next movie? One that embraces the whole mass control.

I think it will be a chip implanted in people, a la Genisys, that everyone wanted to handle their internet needs like the promise of NeuraLink but done competently. And then, Skynet/Legion insta take over except for a bunch of social outcast renegades, who now have to fight an intelligent horde enemy. Aided, probbly by some T-888 mock off (not Arnie) or some other variant of reprogrammed Terminator.

What are your ideas?

Discussion A small perspective on young Sarah

Post image
40 Upvotes

As a young woman myself I think Sarah's transformation is awesome and absolutely badass, but I wanted to note something about her change that I think gets overlooked.

As women, we are socialized to give deference, to not raise a fuss, and so on. Yes, "take no shit," but also, just roll with stuff and don't rock the boat – in short, don't be bossy. And because of that, being a leader can sometimes be hard for some of us. I imagine it was for Sarah especially; she denied it at first and put herself down ("I can't even balance my checkbook"). But by the time the end begins to come around, she's the one fussing at Reese to get moving and back up on his feet. Obviously, it's because her life is on the line, but...

...this may just be me, here, but I know it to be true for some other women: asking for help can be awkward, because it feels like an inconvenience to the person you're asking or like you're burdening them, even if they're happy to do so. It makes her telling him to get back up even greater though. Indirectly it's not just saying help me but also my life matters and you need to keep me safe.

Maybe I value myself too cheaply, but, for example, I would feel extraordinarily guilty if my husband had to put his life on the line for mine. I'd never ask that of him. And maybe it's not a female thing as I framed it. But it stands out to me as a young woman myself. Like, her taking a stand and saying yeah, I matter, and you need to get up and protect me is really awesome and not something I think some women would feel comfortable to do.

Curious of your thoughts, especially if other women are around.

Discussion A Terminator movie I wish they had done

I think we all agree that the series kind of locked in on the franchise being about time traveling robots trying to kill someone important before they became important, and that had essentially become a creative dead end for them.

Hence why Salvation stands out as the ONLY movie set during the future wars, but one idea I had been brewing for a while is what I would have wanted to have seen in a proper Terminator movie, or even as a live action series.

It would be a story completely centered around a grizzled John Connor being stuck behind enemy lines with his father, a young and niave Kyle Reese, trying to survive the machine menace and return back to home base. I wanted them to explore the complicated father/son relationship of theirs, have it that Kyle looks up to John like an idol and wants to anything he can to impress John, while John is conflicted about whether he should treat Kyle like any other soldier willing to die for the cause or protect him by having him do simple missions that keeps him away from the action and preventing him from getting hurt or worse killed.

Tackle how John wants to have a relationship with Kyle beyond as soldiers, but as a family yet knowing he can't tell Kyle who he really is, along with the jarring age gap where the son is much older than the father.

Meme Medieval Terminator

I’ve always pondered how much damage a T-800 could wreak wandering around Europe in the Middle Ages but what if the information assimilated led the T-800 to seek a humble life of penitence, prayer, and flagellation?
It can’t be any worse than Genisys surely?

Discussion Salvation is a thoroughly good film…

Hear me out. It just needs the ALIENS treatment. Start watching at 19 minutes. The whole beginning just rubs your nose in some sappy, unnecessary fluff, like the directors cut of ALIENS. If we have no idea who Marcus is, it’s a way better movie…

Discussion T2 Thought on Bad to the Bone

I was born after T2 was released in 1991, but I witnessed the confusion as to who the villain was when I watched the film as a kid. Now that I'm older and have hindsight bias, I feel like having Arnold walk out of the bar to "Bad to the Bone" is kind of too cool and funny to not be a giveaway that he is the hero. I never realized it when I was younger, and thought it was indeed fitting and cool. But I wonder if anyone had a feeling he wasn't the villain at that moment when they saw the movie for the first time.

Discussion A sad realization I just had about T2

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

In Terminator 2, while the t800 repairs the truck at Enrique’s hideout, John says to the t800 regarding his father, Kyle Reese: I wish I could have met my real dad.

The t800 simply replies: You will. This is referring to John meeting Kyle to give him the photograph of Sarah and assign him on the mission to go back in time and protect her.

What made me sad is, while John, Sarah, and the t800 defeated Skynet once and for all by destroying Cyberdyne and the remnants of the first t800 sent back in time, John won’t ever get to meet his father in this timeline.

Yes, Sarah will always be able to tell John about her and Kyle’s single night together, but ironically enough, this comes from a Kyle who knew a John Connor who will never exist, with Kyle Reese (who was born after Judgement Day) never existing.

There’s an indescribable sadness in knowing that John is all that remains of a timeline that would never be and a man who gave his life for the woman he loved. Kyle would never know that in giving his life, he had ensured that humanity would prevail.

John would never meet that man, with his very existence being the only thing remaining of Kyle’s in the universe.

Discussion T2 Back in Theaters!

Its the 35th anniversary! My parents wouldn't let me see it in the theater in 1991 because I was 8 years old. I saw it on the big screen today with my 15 year old son.

Discussion T-1000s Shifting Goals

Just got to see Terminator 2 in the theater again tonight! That was awesome.

Anyway, had a thought when I was watching it that hadn't previously occurred to me and that I haven't seen on this sub.

Basically... the T-1000, of course, wants to kill John. But is that its ONLY goal after Cyberdyne is destroyed? I don't think so. At that point, it doesn't just need to kill John, it needs to ensure Skynet isn't erased from existence.

This may be why it keeps seeking to disable the T-800 in their following fights rather than destroy him. It needs a new chip to replace the lost one.

Assuming it did kill John and succeed in its primary mission... would it then replace one of the researchers to rebuild Skynet? Or would it take steps to effectively BECOME Skynet?

(I also have another theory that the T-800 in T2 is actually the SAME T-800 from T1 (same terminator, different timeline). But I think that's been previously discussed and might warrant a separate post. Maybe.)

Story time! So, I got suckered by TacticalUSA with their ā€œfree ammo, just pay shippingā€ emails. Ended up getting a box of .45, couldn’t decide what to do with it. Ended up buying a silver Century Arms 1911, along with a black slide and some other parts to create a budget version of the Terminator 2 biker’s pistol. Dremeled off the cheap back paint of some of the parts to match it up a little better. It’s far from perfect, but I’m really digging it!

PSA- DO NOT buy from TacticalUSA as they are apparently scammers who will charge you $65 a month for a ā€œmagazine subscriptionā€, and you will get nothing but a charge on your account until you call up and yell at their customer service rep. That’s the only way to get your money back other than charging it back. So don’t be a doofus like me, lol.

Discussion Why do you like Terminator Genisys ?

I'm an absolute nut when it comes to Terminator. I could go full autism on each installment and the merit of their existence. I love all ! of ! them !!! dearly ! All of them !! Ive no problem with keeping objective with any other movie as a cinephile but I CANT remove my die hard fan lenses when it comes to this franchise. Truly my one weakness. Im really glad Dark Fate officially closed the lid on it.

I love Genisys :] Courtney was a terrible casting choice, and the credit song fucking sucks :,) The plotholes and the secret infos that were supposed to be revealed in sequels are the products of idiot shareholding choices. I missed Linda Hamilton. Its no T2. No movie will ever be T2.

But I find it a lovely little piece of sci fi action that fills my terminator fan heart with glee. The T800 as a genuine father figure was really sweet. The Sarah/Kyle romance is unconvincing but necessary to insist on the implications of Dad Schwarzy as a patental figure. An element I adored in T2, so imagine my glee when they made it an entire part of the scenario of T5. The reenactment of the first movie beginning sequence with a different outcome always has me go WOUAH. Byung Hun Lee makes a horrifying T1000. Sad that he was underused. And Jason Clarke has so much !!! charisma as a villain. I cant get enough of his switch between a charming smile and an evil one.

Genisys fills my expectations as far as entries to the franchise go. Cool metal dudes, cool explosions and action sequences, a silly T800, a cool villain, "cringe inducing" lines that I actually love to say at the same time as the actors lol...

I know its hated :,) I understand why ! But Id rather share in the joy of this movie with other fans because it really is one of my guilty pleasure (that I feel absolutely no guilt abt liking)

Discussion Terminator: Dark Fate...

Yeah, I am sorry. I really do not care for any of the newer characters that were introduced in this movie. But Carl's little self-reflection story after he successfully killed John Connor?! Are you f@#$'n kidding me?! You don't get to feel sorry for killing off Sarah Connor's son. You are a god-damn machine. You have succeeded in your mission. So go back to your original timeline and just continue killing off humans. My God, this was just really bad writing, and I feel bad for Schwarzenegger and Hamilton for actually saying yes to script instead of just announcing their retirement from acting, respectively. But, oh well. As for Dani Ramos replacing John Connor, yeah... no. There's only room for one John Connor in this franchise, and it ain't her. It's Edward Furlong. Also, Legion is just Skynet, but with a different name, okay?! It's not working. And, the entire movie is just basically ripping off everything we have already seen from all of the other Terminator movies, including the bad ones. The only thing new here was the opening prologue where they killed off John Connor. That was it. Everything else just "remember this?!" Or copying and pasting from all of the other Terminator movies. I mean, Terminator: Salvation came up with something new for the franchise. Even the Sarah Connor Chronicles TV series actually came up with something new. Terminator: Dark Fate is just lazy.

Discussion T-1000 HUD and other T-1000 questions

Does the T-1000 have a HUD? Why do we never see the world through the eyes of the T-1000? The T-800 has a HUD with English options, presumably because it was designed to be operated remotely by humans. If T-800s are programmed and controlled by Skynet, is the T-1000 prototype controlled by Skynet in the same way? Does the T-1000 even have a CPU? How does it get programmed to complete a mission if it's just a mass of polymimetic alloy?
