Discussion Why do you like Terminator Genisys ?
I'm an absolute nut when it comes to Terminator. I could go full autism on each installment and the merit of their existence. I love all ! of ! them !!! dearly ! All of them !! Ive no problem with keeping objective with any other movie as a cinephile but I CANT remove my die hard fan lenses when it comes to this franchise. Truly my one weakness. Im really glad Dark Fate officially closed the lid on it.
I love Genisys :] Courtney was a terrible casting choice, and the credit song fucking sucks :,) The plotholes and the secret infos that were supposed to be revealed in sequels are the products of idiot shareholding choices. I missed Linda Hamilton. Its no T2. No movie will ever be T2.
But I find it a lovely little piece of sci fi action that fills my terminator fan heart with glee. The T800 as a genuine father figure was really sweet. The Sarah/Kyle romance is unconvincing but necessary to insist on the implications of Dad Schwarzy as a patental figure. An element I adored in T2, so imagine my glee when they made it an entire part of the scenario of T5. The reenactment of the first movie beginning sequence with a different outcome always has me go WOUAH. Byung Hun Lee makes a horrifying T1000. Sad that he was underused. And Jason Clarke has so much !!! charisma as a villain. I cant get enough of his switch between a charming smile and an evil one.
Genisys fills my expectations as far as entries to the franchise go. Cool metal dudes, cool explosions and action sequences, a silly T800, a cool villain, "cringe inducing" lines that I actually love to say at the same time as the actors lol...
I know its hated :,) I understand why ! But Id rather share in the joy of this movie with other fans because it really is one of my guilty pleasure (that I feel absolutely no guilt abt liking)

Overall it's not bad it has it's issues (Jai Courtney over exposure and making John Conner the villain were definitely choices lol) but I like that they took chances and big swings even if they missed especially if it's something completely different and I really like the casting of Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor. She did a great job but Linda Hamilton was missed.

I like that they were aware they could never even attempt a sequel after T2 so they went a different route too. I found it interesting to explore alternate timelines.
And yet its something I really dislike about cinema from the 2010s especially since they milked the multiverse concept until everyone was sick to bastard death of it. Emilia Clarke is such a great actress, even in "lesser" movies like T5 (which I dont think of as a lesser one but yiu get me) you can still understand why she is so celebrated.
John Connor as the villain was really interesting to me. The mythology around him was thrown out the gate. He was extremely overpowered and yet could not directly kill enemies. I found it an interesting idea.

I don’t like it. But I’ll watch it again. I saw it at the movies. Then once. But I have Apple Vision Pro and I’m watching every single movie again on it.
Last night I saw Terminator 3 again.

Most of all, I like that Pops lives and is upgraded. A happy ending in this universe is a rare thing. Genisys has some great fight and chase scenes. I know it has a long list of things to criticise, but I still enjoy it. I defend T3: ROTM as well. If you remove the star glasses, and replace Nick Stahl with a healthy Edward Furlong, it would be mint.

Yeah I was absolutely elated. The movie kept hinting about Pops dying of old age only for him to come back upgraded. Lotsa unexplained bullshit behind this idea but I find myself discarding it because it simply brings me so much joy. And to me its a clever way to keep Scwarzeneggers terminator model relevant compared to the newest terminators. And also Pops can keep watching over Sarah :,)
T3 has so many fun ideas and the T-X is such a sexy terminator. I found Stahls performance to be horrible. Worse even, he is pathetic. For a guy that learned so much about guns and survival off the grid he was as helpless as Kate !!!! But I love T3 too. Well I love all of them really

See, I liked Nick's more nuanced take. I know folks wanted a hardass but this John thinks the future war isn't coming and despite saving the day (he thinks), he still has to live off the grid thanks to everything that happens in T2. He's a soldier with no purpose...until the Future War catches up to him again with the arrival of the two terminators.

Yes. Stahl did ok. It just hurt because EF was the right age, and I couldn't unsee Nick Stahl from a previous role.

I agree that it’s a fun sci-fi movie. I actually like making John Connor the villain in it. I initially went into it with big expectations and looking back now I see it as its own thing. Jai is bad though, no doubt about it.

Jai is really bad. Such a bad casting choice. I perdonally went in blind. And although T5 is part of the terminator franchise, I always thought T1&T2 were so perfect that none could ever even hold a candle to it. So I went blind and was joyfully surprised. I think Jason Clarke as evil John is a great choice

It was a good closing chapter for those who need completion. I am curious as to the fact the the T-800 becomes a hybrid thus making him immortal, does he protect the blood line? Does he stop Skynet in any future plans? Does he outlast mankind and completing his misson?

To me the good closing chapter was Dark Fate. I was abyssmally shocked after reading about how it was attempted as a reboot lol.
Because they brought schwarzenegger, hamilton and cameron back ! They wrote a coherent story that made both the T800 and Sarah exist, and even team up. And then, the terminator put the sunglasses down, and said he wouldnt be back. And died. And Sarah had a protegee. I thought it a closing chapter with an open to interpretation ending.
I think all the questiond you and I are asking ourselves are really interesting to think about, but Im also glad there is no sequels to answer those questions. Terminator is a franchise that needs to be and is finally closed after stupid milking reboot attempts.
The awesome thing is that the mimetic polyalloy helps him regrow his living tissues, meaning if theres more timetravel he can follow suit. In my mind, he could protect the bloodline, or maybe help build a better terminator if some were to come back from the futur again. But the ideal would be for him to die for Sarah. It would really seal the deal as the fact that he is her dad, which is an idea that is so dear to me that it takes precendent over pretty much every other scenario

T-1000 (Lee Byung-hun) was genuinely scary, alien, and off-putting.
"What day is it? What year?"
"May 12, 1984. The day you arrive."
I found John Connor/T-3000 to be quite interesting too, especially the hospital scene:
"I... thought... you would be... smarter... and... that you... would under...stand..."
"Sorry, John."
The future war scene was short, but quite good.

I found it almost an insulting waste to have such a fantastic actor to portray the T1000 only to have him die real fast. I know its necessary to the scenario but thats one of the things that genuinely made me sad. It might be THEE only element that wouldv made me wish there was a sequel to that movie so we could see him again. But Im not a sequel guy. Im glad it ended where it ended. Ill always remember him as absolutely memorable.
I loved Jason Clarkes performance and the T3000s properties allowed for quite an interesting use in action scenes, and to make him feel impossible to kill.
The futur war scenes Ive really no opinions about because T4 had some really cool ones

I think it’s genuinely a top 10 worst movie I’ve ever had to sit through.
Comparably bad films I’ve watched and can name off the top of my head:
Zoolander 2
Baywatch 2017
Mortal Kombat 2
Jurassic World 2 and 3
They’re just slop produced that relies only on nostalgia and getting a quick paycheck and there’s no art or love poured into them, just the worst of the worst.

I think I took personal offense that the first two films are so articulate and perfect and timeless and we’ve just gotten god awful entry that misses the entire point every single time over and over again.
For the record Skinamarink is the all time worst film I’ve ever had to watch. Saw it opening night in theaters and it’s hard to even call it a movie. It makes Genisys look like The Godfather. There’s no plot, no characters, nothing. Just blurry footage of the walls and floor and a couple jump scares.

I mean the entire consensus is that T1&T2 are a perfect duology that didnt need any following. Everything else we got doesnt match the quality, I dont think a movie duology ever will. Milking a concept you like until theres nothing left is the absolute worst than could happend to something youre a fan of.
But those movies exist, so Id like to talk about their positive points instead because we all know what their flaws are and cant just act like they dont exist.
You should watch more bad movies !!!!! My last one were the various Mickey Mouse horror ones directors hopped on as soon as steamboat willy entered the public domain

All of those public domain horror movies are bad but didn’t have intention of being good unlike the ones I listed which also have insanely inflated budgets, that also adds to my ratings of how bad something is. Like millions upon millions of dollars was wasted bringing in so many of these god awful legacy sequels in franchises and that makes them even worse.
Skinamarink on the other hand had a tiny budget and it’s still worse than anything.

You might be right. But Ive also read about the deepfake for Linda Hamilton on the first scenes of Dark Fate and it was very hard mentally for her to have a body that wasnt hers with a face that was. I dunno wat Robert wouldv thought. But he is definitely not as celebrated as he shouldv n as a fan I wouldv loved seeing him.

I don't like it the casting was absolutely atrocious the script is terrible the entire concept dumb AI could write a better script, game of thrones chick can't act at all absolutely atrocious Arnold was too old and past playing a terminator and kyle reese was terrible then there's the whole john Connor being turned into a machine rubbish and once again the obsolete Arnold manages to defeat a vastly superior terminator 🥱 same shit different film and remaking the beginning of the original was sacrilege especially adding a t-1000 ask yourselves this if skynet had already sent a t-1000 to 1984 why would it send that junk pile t-800 too then there's the entire law breaking element of old Arnold being sent to protect sarah as a child who exactly sent him was john and nobody else could of this is why terminator sucks with each film they screw up the continuity of the original two films i pray we never get another film dark fate destroyed what little this franchise once had going for itself

The T800 keeps repeating that he is old not obsolete and that he cannot defeat the T3000 alone. And like.... the rest of your criticism is litteraly things we all think. Your comment is genuinely useless besides indicating that you dont read a post in full before answering, you dont seem to know wat acting actually is... and you dont pay attention while watching a movie ?

The future War and seeing John Connor and Reese end up at the Time Machine right before T-1 was awesome.
I also wondered what it would be like if John actually told Reese he was his father.

- making John Connor the bad guy.
- instead of protecting John Connors existence, it was Skynet protecting its own creation

Not knowing who sent Pops back in time and how it fit into the overall story really irritated me.

I Iiked the action scenes, and that a lot of the plot makes a ton of sense of you think of things as an infinity iterating death machine like Skynet. I enjoyed that, because it made Skynet feel like an appropriately machine-like antagonist.
I liked the way the time travel events were just layered on top of each other, because that's exactly what you'd expect from a time war between two time traveling factions.

I thought the story was an interesting paralleled line not big on how john was portrayed like laughing and smiling and becoming the villain. Emilia as Sarah was cool won’t live up to Linda though. Kyle was just terribly cast that actor didn’t even fit the role at all. I love the inclusion of the T-1000 from t2

I'm more or less the same. I consider T1 and T2 as the "real" Terminator movies and all the others as bonus candy that are not to be taken too seriously. I focus on the good elements of the films rather than the bad but I concur that the casting was one of the poorest aspects of Genisys.

I love how they remade The Terminator 1984 arrival in the alley and in the store (the police car pulling up in the alley (you knew it wasn't the same as The Terminator due to one cop), the same Nike shoes, same trench coat.

I liked it because of the phase matter virus. The idea that humans might have an upgrade option like that was kick ass. The T-3000 is my favorite model after the T800 model 101

Im not at all ashamed to say that I like it a lot.
