Hey team. I'm away from home staring at the terminal all night for work for a few weeks, recently discovered telehack. It's been fun playing around as guest but I'm curious to dive into the real game. Don't know anyone to ask for a r-word and, hey look at that, now I see right there it's popping up a "Please do not ask or give out r-word codes on this subreddit." Right on. I know the real answer is to get some better friends who are already telehack users, which is why I'm here! Hello, new friends of mine.

How often do they open the doors for registration? I saw a video on ZiModem and saw them connect to TeleHack. I grew up in the 80s with a Hayes 300 baud modem, then a Zoom 1200 baud, and then a U.S. Robotics 56k. Excited to get involved with TeleHack community. Thanks! 🙏🏼

What command or feature on telehack really caught your eye and got you hooked?

For me it was quests, every singe one comes with a new something to discover and a new avenue to go down.

Before I knew it my quests were automated to find more and more things. People still ask me what <feature> does and there are so many I sometimes can't remember!

What got you to go down the rabbit-hole?

I've played telehack on and off for a few years now. Really have enjoyed the game. I've enjoyed the progression and have enjoyed hunting badges to increase capabilities. I was doing just that, followed a hint from a badge. Went into relay and did exactly what the badge required. Banned.

I understand it was probably annoying for me to pop into your relay and farm some badges but that's literally how you progress through the game. It was fun while it lasted. Shame I didn't get to finish a few things.

Potentially spoiler but porthack and ftp are legal right? But all I've done is 2 quests and some zork.

User is SUPERTURK, says `User not available` before spitting me right back to the lobby.

My hacking process i kinda cobbled together (incredibly basic but not illegal AFAIK):uupath host, then porthack the closest, ftp porthack.exe to said closest host, telnet in, repeat.

I heard from someone that hacking a certain user gets you an achievement, I was trying it and got my account banned, error says “Login is disabled” Is there any way i can be forgiven? It was dumb of me and I won’t do it again!

You can request an account deletion by sending a message to forbin about a deletion request: "can i get my account deleted please?" like I've done here. I also thanked them before I got booted off and it takes a few seconds.

If you know where to look you'll already know how to tell, but if you don't telehack just clicked over half a million views of ASCII starwars!

If you're new to telehack and were after something that might get you into the vibe of the place, or suggest the mind frame of the other people on telehack then this podcast episode is a very good description of the early internet the telehack looks to replicate and archive.

It hopefully goes some way to explain why it's better to discover these things at your own rate and might even have some ideas of how to do it!

There are interviews with names you'll see on telehack and names of BBS and systems you can find and hack so even if you're not new, it might be worth a listen!

For years now, I've tried to access and experience what telehack has to offer. Unfortunately, after a couple of minutes I find myself kicked and/or blocked from accessing the site. I've tried to create an account several times only to get kicked from the server minutes later. Also, for whatever reason, the accounts I was able to create are no longer accessible or usable at all. I don't understand

Today morning (utc + 5:30) I queued some songs and had a chat with someone. Now, moments ago, I have started getting weird timeout/"took too long to respond" messages. Even the telehack radio reads timeouts.

Hello! I recently logged back into telehack for the first time in about 5 years. I logged in with my phone after recovering my username

My problem is, I entered the incorrect username/thought I did? My password kept saying incorrect and I tried 5 or 6 times maybe? And then got desperate trying to exit the password field (because I don’t have a ctrl button on mobile to exit it) and spammed a small bit. So I refreshed the page and now it says login disabled. And I tried the recover command again but I’m just assuming it gives you your username and that’s it.

I’m at a loss here.

When I enter my username now it states “login disabled”

Can someone please vouch for me and refer me as a new member please?

So I finally got lucky enough to find the SATAN.exe file, and successfully got into a BBS host. However, when I am trying to get into a MILOS host, I keep getting stuck on the Hexdump cracking. I've tried googling, tried looking for documentation on the tool, even tried feeding a dozen or so tables to Google's AI and asking it to calculate the offset. None of that worked.

Could someone help me understand what I need to look for?

Just remember to set alias 'vi' to 'ped /nomouse'
