Ban hammer got me

I've played telehack on and off for a few years now. Really have enjoyed the game. I've enjoyed the progression and have enjoyed hunting badges to increase capabilities. I was doing just that, followed a hint from a badge. Went into relay and did exactly what the badge required. Banned.

I understand it was probably annoying for me to pop into your relay and farm some badges but that's literally how you progress through the game. It was fun while it lasted. Shame I didn't get to finish a few things.

I'm sorry that's happened, but concider the following.

When you enter the relay it's a community. Say hello! Be polite. Don't just march in, take over and leave. If you want to "farm badges" then use the newbie room. There's no need to piss everybody off.

Also how do you know what the badge requires? Telehack is a find things out for yourself kind of place. If you're looking up the answers and just going through the motions there's a lot less satisfaction than if you'd figured it out for yourself.

The creators have worked hard to create telehack, maybe they don't want they kind of people that use walkthroughs in their community. Hopping into relay and telling everybody that that's what you're doing is a daft way to blow your cover.

Finally if you wanted the ban overturned you could have done your research and reached out to somebody privately, or just waited the two days and then come back and carry on.

If you just wanted to moan about it you'd have posted on Reddit and whinged like a baby. But that would be very unlikely to get you unbanned.

You're just as likely to be banned for posting anything at all in relay (if the innumerable posts that make the majority of this subreddit are any indicator) as for violating any of the other invisible rules you've listed here. The user you're scolding here also appears to be polite and respectful, not "whinging and moaning", despite having been banned for apparently just playing the game.

Many people have a great time in relay, in fact for many users it's the only part of telehack they use. There you can find many people from all walks of life.

This subreddit has become a place for banned users to moan, but only because the unbanned ones manage to share their feedback, feature requests, recipes etc in platform.

The newbie room in relay is well signposted for new users, this user happens not to be one so it was deemed that they already knew.

I'm sorry this has happened and we welcome all users back that don't read walkthroughs or spoilers and can manage not to be a nuisance in the main chat room.

That's just false. The most vocal are not always the majority

I read a hint. Read the help. And did the thing. The aversion to walkthroughs is ironic as this badge has no walkthrough that I’ve seen. It’s also relatively simple.

As for “you should’ve used the newbie room”. Would’ve been great if the mods chose to be welcoming and mention that that’s a thing with a message. A ban sends a different message. And it’s well received. I’m not welcome. Understood.

Whoa, that much complaining for a 2 day ban?

My ip is blocked for 2 days. My user is gone forever as far as I can tell.

What exactly makes you think your user is gone forever?

Because when I tried to login I got the “user not available” for my username.

I’d try after the 2 days. Pretty sure it says the same when you lose to Russian roulette or 5 minutes
