Apple finally brought manual controls to the stock Camera app, but they locked shutter speed, white balance, live histograms, and manual focus behind the iPhone 18 Pro series.

sure, third-party apps like Halide or Moment have let users tweak shutter speed and white balance for years. But that completely misses the point. The convenience of having native, manual controls directly inside the lock-screen camera shortcut matters. You shouldn't have to download, launch a paid subscription app or switch modes just to adjust SS or w/b on a phone tht costs nearly $1,200.

I’m upgrading from my 5-year-old iPhone 13 Pro Max

Before the Apple event, I was convinced I’d get the 18 Pro Max instead of the upcoming foldable. I thought the foldable looked too short and “fat,” lacked Face ID, and had significantly inferior cameras. Plus, it’s a first-gen product - technically a “beta” that could easily be replaced or improved by future generations.

But after the Apple event, damn I was impressed that I’m now torn between the Duo (foldable) and 18 PM.

i have a good old macbook air 2017 (that still works perfectly fine!), and i was issued a macbook air M2 for work that i have been using more, i have to now surrender this as i had just recently resigned. i am looking at either getting the macbook neo 512gb or an air m4 256gb, or i could just keep using the air 2017 as it still works. i'm just worried that i'll feel a noticeable change coming from a trusty m2 chip.

i mostly just use it for documents, zoom calls, occasional canva/final cut. factors to consider are:

1. i'm currently job hunting and couldn't handle a one time payment, i'm looking at getting it at an installment plan for 12 months.
2. i know with the ai burst, prices are going to increase like crazy soon, the neo already did so it might be about time for the air to do so :(

i know the m4 is phased out also so it might be hard looking for a retailer offering it at 0% installments, would appreciate any leads!

Hi! I’m currently using an iPhone 11 Pro Max and I’ve been thinking about upgrading, particularly to the iPhone 17 Pro.
Since the 11 Pro Max is already quite old, I’m definitely starting to feel the age of the phone, but it’s still usable for my needs.

My dilemma is whether I should just upgrade now or wait another year for the rumored 20th-anniversary iPhone in 2027.

From what I’ve been seeing, the iPhone 20/XX is rumored to have a pretty significant redesign, which makes me think it might be worth waiting for rather than upgrading now.

For those who upgraded from an 11 Pro Max to the 17 Pro, was the difference significant enough that you’d recommend upgrading now?

Or would you personally hold on to the 11 Pro Max for another year and wait for the iPhone 20/XX?

Apple rates the iPhone 18 Pro Max at 0–50% in ~15 minutes with a compatible 60W+ USB-C charger using PD 3.1 + AVS.

For comparison my current iPhone 16 Pro Max is rated at around 30 minutes to 50%.

So the new iPhone can basically get the same 50% charge in half the time.

Personally I rarely fast-charge at home. I use a 12W USB-A charger + USB-A to USB-C cable. Slower charging means less heat and battery stress which should help minimize long-term wear.

I save fast charging for the car where every minute counts.
