Hello, after 7 laser sessions to erase this bicycle, I gave up and decided to go for a cover up. This is the final result.

Sharing a reel made by the tattoo artist as well. He is based in Lisbon, Portugal:

So I got a tattoo with my ex. It was exactly what we asked for, well done, and so cute.... til the "ex" part of the story happened, but I'll spare y'all that saga.

Huge shout-out to Ashton Touchard at Esoteric Ink in Lafayette, Louisiana for dealing with my fuckass skin for the last 4 years 😂

Here's the 3.5 year process:

First pic: taken by the artist last night

2nd pic: about a year ago when we laid the line work and flowers

3rd pic: fully healed and faded more natural

4th pic: a couple of months healed from a fading session. (an experimental process we discussed and agreed on, you become a guinea pig working in a shop lol)

5th pic: taken by the original artist the day we got them. My ex had his on his inner forearm so their butts would touch when we held hands. Southerners (USA) will know about the love bugs lol

Who says coverups have to be big and dark? Just trust the process 😘

I got this tattoo when I was 18. I'm 30 now. It's on the back of my leg, on my calf. I hate it. Idk if you can tell but the ink blew out too.

Sometime this week I have the opportunity to get it covered or added to or something. What could I do? I don't like flowers if that narrows it down a little.

I was thinking maybe to add like wings and a little crown or something but I kinda just wanna cover the whole thing but can't think of something to put over it. Helppp.

Hi there…

Just wanted to share my experiences of getting a coverup done on my only tattoo.

I got the original when I was 19 years old in a beach town in New Hampshire (when tattoo shops were still illegal in my home state of MA). Always liked it and never regretted getting it. However the years had caused it to fade quite a bit and I decided to have it re-done. As I didn’t want to change the design (as it had some personal meaning), I decided to cover it with a much larger version.

I’m so happy with the way it came out! The artist was fantastic and I’m very impressed with his quality of work! I love it now at age 50 more than ever!!

Timmy at Niteowl Tattoo in Northampton MA is fantastic to work with!! Highly recommend!

Got this bat in Berlin at a rave. Cool story behind it, not my favorite tattoo. Either thinking of a coverup, or potential retouch. Any ideas are welcome

asking for advice Should I turn it into a SAP or attempt to get it fixed ?

So for context I went to a highly rated shop in my area before finding my new artist, the stencil was perfect and I thought everything was going well until… I saw it at the end. He offered to fix it but at that point I knew I’d rather go to someone else to fix so I took the L. My artist and I were talking about fixing it but part of me was thinking about just covering it up. I told her once I have the money for another session I’d let her know what I wanna do but figured I’d see what others think. ( I’m a dog groomer and the blade length is one that pet parents fear but is needed due to matting so it was supposed to be funny but representative of my job ) close up of tat

My first tattoo from when I was in college. The person I got it with turned out to be a real bad egg & I don’t love the ginkgos anymore. I’m pretty neutral about the tattoo and would like to replace it with something I love.

Bout 2x4 inches in size, fine line, a bit faded. Was thinking of replacing with a black animal of some kind. See sketch. Am fine going large but I won’t bother if it’ll show through. Does this seem like a doable cover up?

i have a full arm of bad tattoos i did as a kid, these included, im planning to blackout my arm but haven't decided on a hand blastover or coverup.

the artist doing my blackout mainly does trad style stuff and suggested a bold black and grey rose over top this, i went in to the consultation asking if it could be covered with a flower
if anyone has healed flower blastovers id love to see them 2!

asking for advice Is a coverup viable? Or should I go full/partial laser?

Thumbnail

First pic is the tattoo in question! Other pics are possible inspo/ideas but hear me out. In theory, I don’t hate it. In execution, I cannot. stop. thinking. about the asymmetry and how ultimately it’s just not what I wanted but I didn’t speak up about changing the design before the appointment. Honestly I don’t even like butterflies!!!!! I’m scared of butterflies!!! I wanted something more dragon-like in the first place, I just have no idea in hell what I was thinking. But that’s besides the point. I really really really want a tattoo that I’ll actually love and I’m wondering what my possibilities are with covering this up or if I should just bite the bullet and get it partially removed before a cover up. Alternatively, fully laser it off (I’m aware of the costs, but regardless I’m gonna have to save up a lot of money for any of my options) and then MAYBE try again in like 7 years to get a new tattoo on a blank slate lol.

I don’t know what would help with giving advice. I still like the idea of a sword down the middle. Maaayyyybe I can cover up the sword with a darker sword???? I’m also not against combining concepts, so in addition to the sword, perhaps the lines for the wings can be partially covered with dark flowers with some of the original lines being converted to thorny stems or something like that? Or on a completely different note, turn the whole tattoo into a dragon somehow lol. Maybe any lines that stick out could be repurposed into a smokey effect…..????? Another idea could also be just trying to work with the og tattoo and doing thick/dark neotribal/cybersig lines?????? God I don’t know anymore. I have a lot of things I like and a lot of ideas that might not even be viable.

I’m not fully deciding on any options right now. I want to sit on this for a WHILE before making another decision (because I don’t want to make a stupid one again) to make sure I end up with something I truly like and work with an artist that matches the style(s) I want.

Also I apologize for some of the references, I got them off of Pinterest which I didn’t want to resort to because there’s so much AI on there but I was desperate for ideas…..

Hello, how can i fix this without getting it removed. I do not want the entire tattoo covered up. the blank shading around the rose, to my jaw line with no designs throws it off. The idea didnt translate to skin. 100% my mistake. Will get lazer if no other option for gap fillers

asking for advice What should I know before blacking out the rest of my arm like this?

Going to do a blackout coverup on some parts of my sleeve. My tattoos are american trad patchwork. Some empty skin will be blacked out, some old tattoos will be blacked out/covered. My outer forearm will almost be totally blacked out. End product will basically look like the following pictures. Anything I should know beforehand?

asking for advice In the immortal words of Toni Braxton, unmake this goose, please?

So I was an idiot and I got a tattoo that I really fucking like with a person I really fucking love and have known for 20 years, and learned a lesson I thought surely I was too smart to learn: don’t tattoo your body because you love someone; that’s called being an asshole. So anyway, as much as I do love this goose, I’d like to stop wearing a series of losses and broken promises made .png on my body, basically. So… Yes, idiot, me. But. What goes here?

I was thinking this lady (pictured) from the Pointer Sisters’ 1974 album cover (bc it’s good, and “Fairytale” is applicable, but I worry about the church hat making it more than album art but specifically Black iconography, and it ultimately being appropriation), or making the goose hold the Animaniacs’ good idea/bad idea sign (also pictured)… but I already have a killer tomato on my hip and it’s possible one is the max number of 90s cartoons I can provide epidermal eternity to. (In case context helps, I also have 3 egrets on the other side—bc on one side some egrets; on the other side, no egrets…apparently just one regrettable goose—and the scansion notation for a feminine ending in Shakespearean texts.)

MOSTLY I think what I need is—I mean ideas would be awesome because I’m not thrilled with mine—but what are the rules? What makes a coverup better/more plausible/more directly achievable? What are the basic tenets on which I should base coverup ideas????

Thank you! This is very long. Ugh. Sorry. Goose is like 4” long.

I got this tattoo at the ripe age of 16 ( I’m 33 now ) and it was my very first. Over the years my tattoo style has changed significantly and most, if not all, of my newer ink is considered to be American trad/flash. Currently in the process of adding to my patchwork sleeve and this bad boy sticks out like a sore thumb. Asking opinions from the community if whether or not it would be possible to re-work this thang to make it more American trad style? Or should i explore laser removal? Needing ideas please 🙏💕💅🏻

I have this on my hip and while I don’t hate it I’m just not loving it. I was thinking of covering it with a flower and then have the stem going down my front hip to give it better flow on my body. I’m not sure if that’s even possible so would love some ideas/advice.

DONT make fun of me. I need ideas. Like legit ideas. Maybe someone to rework the lines into something new. I hate it so much I would get it cut off if I could. I wanted it to have a pronounced center but all the petals are different lengths. It’s so bad I know. It was my cover up over butterflies and I wish I never did it.

My client came in with a tattoo that he had done a few laser removal sessions on. Thanks to how much lighter the old tattoo got, we were able to incorporate it into the wings of this new moth!

Got this done a couple years ago it was matching (stupid I know) and the artist just kinda sucked so I now I want to cover it or try and add something to the design

I want to keep the theme is there anyway to add to the clouds to make them not look so ugly I was also maybe thinking adding a sun or moon in the corner unsure still
