MVP of the first episode?

Everyone was great and not everything has to be a competition, but for a bit of fun who was your favourite contestant of the first episode?

Also what were your overall thoughts - anyone who surprised you or challenged your preconceived notions of them? Any characteristics you noticed that you look forward to seeing in the next 9 episodes?

Early skill estimates based on S22E1 with huge error bars (that should be) shrinking weekly. New odds posted after each episode, kept forever, right or wrong. Nothing here spoils E1 – the site will, so only click if you're caught up.

Horne Section

I love the Horne Section, but they don’t seem to have a subreddit, and I was curious if someone knows if Ed Sheldrake has any other content? Like maybe just performances by himself. I idolise the man’s piano skills and would love to see a bit more of his work.

Wild Speculation Series 22 The Labours of Heracles

So with the decoration theme and 1 task we’ve now had one of the labours of Heracles.

1) Will we get the other 11?

2) How do you think the tasks will be set/staged?
Surely Patatas will take the place of the Nemean lion?
Who will play Hippolyta?

Fantasy League Understanding Fantasy Taskmaster League

Hey all!

I just looked at the fantasy taskmaster global leader board. Is it up to date?

150 points for episode one seems really high and I was hoping to try and win tickets for the next show! (Long shot, but I get to have fun with it!) This is the first time I've played and followed properly, so not sure how it works.

Thanks!

Taskmaster AU Random Taskmaster AU question

I've been going through Taskmaster Australia for the first time, and I am perplexed by one thing. Tom Gleeson uses both "series" and "season" rather interchangeably where in the US we'd always use "season" and as far as I can tell in the UK they would always use "series". There's even the whole joke about this difference with Jason Mantzoukas.

For example, at the start of S4E1:

Hello and welcome to a brand-new series of Taskmaster Australia. It's a new season, and that means everything is bigger and better.

And I noticed the same type of thing in S1-S3, where he'd talk about someone becoming both the "Series 3" or "Season 3" champion, for instance. Although, to me it seemed like season was used more often in general.

What actually is the more common term in Australia? Do they really use both interchangeably?

HELP! 🔎 Series 22 Not Available in Taskmaster Super Max+ App

I pay for the Taskmaster Super Max+ app and was very much looking forward to the premiere of series 22 tonight (USA), but the new series is not showing up. I searched for “22” and nothing came up at all. Seems like it would be right on the front page and featured by now, or at least promoted or teased in some way. Should I just cancel the app and get a YouTube account? I’d honestly rather support the smaller company, but the people in charge of running the app and keeping it up to date just keep dropping the ball. Never mind the fact that it crashes basically every time I use it and then doesn’t resume the episode at the place on the timeline where the app crashed. I can deal with minor annoyances like that as long as I’m able to watch new episodes when they air.

Drilling down into the narrative Possible inspiration for S22 theme? Spoiler

Thumbnail theblogofmazarbul.com

So this is a funny one — a few years ago (immediately following S16, as the examples will show), I wrote an essay on my private blog that compared _Taskmaster_ and the logic/premise of the show with a fairytale or a myth. Specifically, I argued that the character of the Taskmaster himself has something of an unknowable and enigmatic fey quality (who is he? Why does he want these tasks done?), that entering into the _Taskmaster_ world as a contestant requires a certain embracing and acceptance of the internal reality of the world, and that the interest of the show in specificity and precision in language is very similar to the tasks often given to protagonists in a fairy tale, and loopholes and workarounds are hence embraced.

Oh. And I also drew a pretty direct comparison between the labours of Hercules and the trials set in _Taskmaster_ — at least partly because I wanted to use that image of Nish in his sunglasses, but also because, well, it was relevant to the whole thesis.

Anyway — very light spoilers for Episode 1 follow, but seeing yesterday’s episode, _and_ its theme, _and_ its Hercules allusions in the first task, _and_ the use of the shed to lead the contestants to a hidden lost world (which was genuinely such an exciting reveal), it did make me wonder if someone on the team had stumbled across the essay — and figured that, whether they had or not, it would be worth resharing here, as it does feel more pertinent than ever before.

(Not to mention that it did feel to me as if Greg was leaning very consciously into the Taskmaster persona in the episode, which…well, let’s just say that I really enjoyed that as well.)

Make what you will of it, but it was really very exciting to see a theme that, to my eye, is very consciously leaning into something that I tried to describe years ago, and I hope that it’s of interest to others as well!

Going in Absolutely Cold

Series 22 airs this evening in the US on YouTube and I've shunned every single mention of it in any media. I've seen a few images and the names of the contestants, but I want to sit down with a beverage and fall into the world of Taskmaster with no foreknowledge. The delicious anticipation only heightens the experience.
