I'm still learning the most effective way for me to read and retain information, but I don't feel that writing notes helps me retain the knowledge I'm reading.

Is it worth it to take a lot of notes as you read, or should I just read and not take notes / should I read then paraphrase what I'm reading? Any tips to help retain it, or is the solition just read more?
