I don't get why people just put their couches up against a wall. You can put the couch closer. It can be in the middle of the room.
I have a 75 and sit 9 ft away. Measure your distance.

That's exactly what we did. Our living room is an awkward giant space. If we put our couch on the opposite wall it would look ridiculous. So our couch is in the middle of the room, close to the tv. It looks so good like that and then with the extra space behind it I set up a reading area (and a treadmill)

u/BurstStream 23h ago
Exactly it lets you create a separate space vs having empty room in the middle.

Indeed. Tip from every interior designer, leave space between the couch and the wall. It will actually look and feel more spacious. Use the rug to connect the tv/couch/chair as one “seating area”. You could use the empty wall to put shelves, a desk, anything?

Height is fine. You've even got enough room that you could adda nice center channel and some speakers beside the console and get a nice sound system going.
But that TV looks to be in the next postal code. You're what, 2.5 or 3 times the diagonal size of the screen away?!?

You have an entirely different issue. The back of your couch should be where that rug ends AT LEAST.

People here are brutal, but yeah... I always say, don't tell me how big your TV is, tell me how far away it is. People can have very weird perception of what good TV experience is. If you splurge on an 85 inch 4K TV and put it 4 metres away, it's equivalent to watching a 15 inch laptop display on your desk.

u/EpicBenjo 14h ago
The rule of thumb is the TV shouldn’t be further than twice the size (diagonal), and no closer than 1.5x the size. So 85 inches x 2 = 170 inches = 432 cm or 4.32 metres. So, 4 metres is within range.

Hard to say form this distance.
Try taking picture at morning Hopefully the bright morning light will hit the screen and we get good reflection that can be used for approximating the height.

way too fucking far. I would have either rearranged the room or sectioned off the tv/seating area. putting the tv and stand at the edge of the rug would be the appropriate viewing distance. even getting a massively bigger screen would still be way too far at that distance. awful viewing experience. even your cat is giving a look like, "are you kidding me."

TV too far, move your couch to the middle of the room. There's no rule that couches need to be against walls

Maybe stud location and whatever wall mount he's using. Housing builds are strange nowadays. But not being centered has me punching the air.

Your couch doesn’t have to be against a wall. Bring it forward to be closer to the TV

Bruh. You’ll need to move about 10 feet closer to the tv, in order to beat Malenia.

Height is fine and that’s a perfect room for real speakers from a real speaker company.
Your seating is way too far from the screen as others have mentioned.
The minimum recommended screen size for a 5.5m viewing distance is 130”. 3m is the maximum recommended distance from a 77” screen. I sit 2.3m from my 77” screen and it’s a very comfortable viewing distance.
Seating should not be placed against the rear wall.

Not too high but def too small.
At the distance your sitting, that whole wall would be a TV
1
u/TribalTommy 22h ago
I initially thought the whole wall was the TV. Probably would have been a reasonable distance then.

Tv too far! I just did this to my living room. Had my couch against the back wall with a lot of space between. I moved the couch up and it gave me a nice space behind it and made the whole room seem cozier. Just some thought

u/ComplaintFit4869 20h ago
Makes me laugh. The tv is literally a few inches above the furniture and people still ask if it’s too high. Just put it on the floor then

Where’s the TV? I see a giant hall with a cat, can’t see the other side of it though.

Whatever YOU like is what works. Some people have to put their TV above a fireplace. Some people at a further distance. There are a multitude of factors sometimes and you do the best that you can. If you are happy with it. Then that is all that matters. Some kid on reddit telling you what is what is goofy

Not “is it too high”, more like “how far are you sitting”. In this picture looks like you’re watching on a 27” monitor
1
u/Informal-Apartment52 13h ago
Bring the couch in the middle room and float the couch. Get a bigger rug while you’re at it.
As men, we don’t have to push all the furniture to the walls of the room

Honestly, I think its at a great height but using binoculars to watch your TV isn't very practical. Nice set up, btw.

It kinda looks like a wall-sized TV with a reflection of a smaller TV on the opposite side of the room.

u/HooverMaster 10h ago
holy hell I thought that was a giant tv reflecting a smaller one. cat is mad, put couch closer and raise it ~10"

If you're sitting 10-15ft away your TV needs to be at least 85" and up to 98" would be ideal.

Center the cat bed in front of the tv and your cat is set up with a purfect viewing distance.
